Just to move away from the snide BS going on, PMBangers has posted his Top 40 Phantom with us taking Smillie, Armstrong, and Ough.

In comments later, when asked if he only had one pick for the best KPF in this draft, who would he take....

Armstrong for a team with an established KPF (i.e., King), or Jack Whitlock for a team without.

I could very much live with that.

Although I’d prefer Shanahan to Armstrong.

Don't know anything about Ough and would love Jack Whitlock. I know it's not a need but I just like him.

If you kids can't play nice I'll turn this thread around and there'll be no draft for anyone.
Apologies if anyone's actual draft discussion got removed in the tidy up.

What do we do if Armstrong & Tauru are taken before our picks? I say we do not split pick 8.

If both of those boys were taken then we would be crazy splitting, unless it was an absolutely stupid deal in our favour.
But if both of those had been taken before our pick that would mean that not 1 but 2 of the big mids could still be available.

Will go back to the previous convo had on here when everyone was so disappointed with NWM over Hobbs.

Disappointed in two top ten players who hasn't even put on a boot for the club? I find the whole concept ludicrous considering we wont know their potential for a few years.

This surety on who will be a top player and who wont is quite frankly ridiculous. Development of a player is not linear.

Maybe we should have lost every game this season and got pick one.

People seem to like losing on the assumption a player in the future will make the team and culture better.
Agree Joffa

That Higgins ball floating for what seemed an eternity and from the other end of the ground what looked closer towards the roof than the goals is still a thing of living beauty.

That split second of silence then the roar of the Saints supporters. The Saints supporters then waving their scarves like maniacs and the smug f*ing Bloos supporters with heads in hands.Glorious. (ok that was me)

An 18 year old kid who's future is unknown over that beautifully magnificent floating sherrin? Nah the game is the thing. WinnIng games and shutting up your most hated opponents. That goal makes me laugh every time I see it with pure joy.

What BS rhetoric? Phillipou at pick 10 is better than Tsatsas at pick 5. And how the hell would you know who is going to be the best at AFL level.
I understand that it is a loser mentality to continually whinge and moan and b!tch we won a game at the end of the season instead of throwing the game.
That is totally embracing mediocrity and it is one of the big reasons this club has been a loser and an irrelevant laughing stock of the competition since 1897.
When will this victimisation and petty ad nauseum repeating of the woe is me grievances stop?

The Kruezer Cup gave the tankers Carlton a no.1 pick. How did that go for them. GWS and GC have had a thousand top ten picks with I grand final in a combined 22 or 23 seasons.

The facts are that teams like North have been a basket case for half a decade and that's why they get top picks. They looked garbage all season.
Once we were over our injuries we won 6 out of the eight games playing terrific football. I was happy to see the potential and Kemp should have nailed the game for Carlton. We played out the full 4 quarters and the players were absolutelty delighted to win. A great sign of what the club is trying to achieve after being a basket case for decade upon decade.

This club is built on myth and messiah complex. It has been combined in this latest complaint. The myth a toe poke or a bounce and we have 2 flags, disregarding the fact we kicked ourselves out of the game in 2009. and there was still 1:20 on the clock in 2010.
We fool ourselves with messiahs, Barks, Plugger, Harv's, GT, Lyon, Lyon again. All going to take us to the promised land.

This time because we won games in a season we are finished because we wont get footballers who are subjectively rated stronger on underage football than others in the most even draft in decades.

We got pick 7, and got pick 8 when we deserved an end of 1st round pick which gives us prime position to get a quality mid, even two, or split the pick get a very good mid and maybe a slider like a Trainor.

So while I see the whinging about us winning a game, to me it is just pitiful and quite frankly a bit pathetic and I think no wonder some of our supporters are treated with distain and are laughed at.
Let it go Joff. 5&6>7&8 (Especially in this draft). We all understand your stance, but the world wouldn’t have ended for us if we lost that game. This loser mentality stuff is a crock of shit tbh.

Membrey was the first to celebrate that goal, did you see that?

During the trade period journos were doubting the tigers taking all their current picks to the draft and possibly trading one or two for picks in next years draft. I feel like, if true, that's something we should be capitalising on heavily.
Based on the tigers committing to redraft a player as a rookie.

They only need to trade out 1 pick.

Bonar straight up couldn’t play I was so against drafting him. Tauru on the other hand looks a real talent.

You are buying potential over output still. It's a fair point. He's another that is certainly no guarantee to be a star but has some exceptional athletic gifts. Bonar was a kid who'd been one of the best under 16 players in the country but unable to show much for two years. He was a much more of an unknown gamble.

No it's not. I would also say he is going better than MacKenzie taken at 7 as well, Clark at 8 and Gibney at 9 as well.
Cayman, Ashcroft, Sheezel and Wardlaw have probably shown more, but not by much.
If you are saying Tsatsas, Clark, MacKenzie and Gibney were all tier 1 it proves my point.
Anyway if we got Tauru he has been touted top 5, and Reid is just bagged by some for their ego's. I have been keen on Reid since the champs and nothing has changed my mind.

Convenient for your argument Holland was selected 11 in 2022.

It's easy to work out who was shit in hindsight. A few top 10 players will be spuds or average even in a super draft, a couple more will sit around GOP level and a few will be stars or above average. If it's a really good draft a champion might come out of it.

There are always players that flop for a variety of reasons. Part of it is luck and a part of it is some kind of alchemy where the good recruiters seem to be able to spot elements others can't see.

This is a really deep draft with the chance to grab guns right through it. I'm not convinced the top end is absolute star material but very confident that we should be able to get at least one gun from this draft and anything on top of that is a bonus. A second high pick allows us to go one safe and one a bit more speculative but think even with our second round pick that there is a really solid chance of getting a very good player.

So in addition to what I got from my work function the other night which seems like sound info

I’ve just been told if Lalor is there at pick 2. We will make a play for it

I'm not convinced that he's that much better that you'd want to overpay to move up.
