I always find it fascinating the 2 common arguments.

1. He’s too small and his game won’t translate playing midfield against men in the AFL.

2. He only dominates at school boy level given he’s bigger than everyone else and that won’t translate against bigger bodies in the afl.

Both are regularly proven incorrect. Size doesn’t always matter :)
That's what he said

So Jagga is the only bust proof player?
Well played, I knew I'd missed someone.

Smith: heard he is shocking at Christmas time as when ever he gives a present he always asks for it back. At his recent birthday party he tried to organise a fancy dress party, he dressed as a seagull. Unfortunately for him noone turned up, that earned him the nickname Callaghan behind his back. Apparently he is in negotiations to do a motivational speaking world tour titled, you can't be me, but why don't you at least try to be like me. Finally, I heard he was incredibly concerned in the lead up to the combine testing this year. His main worry how he was going to complete the 20 metre sprint as he hasn't gained 20 metres ahead of himself all season.

Hotton
Awkward 😬

Very awkward, but it's a brutal industry. Coming off an acl tear as well. I reckon he'll take any offer that let's him fulfil his AFL dream.

What little I've seen of him has been impressive. If we do end up spliting 8 for a couple of picks in the teens, he'd be right in the tunnel viewer.

Murphy Reid, if you are reading this.

You are my idol. My brother from another mother. My day 1 OG. Top of my draft board since I saw you walk on water against Country. I hope you are wearing the Red White and Black in 2025.

He will reid right through you.

Considering the Hotton family have a strong dislike for the St Kilda Football Club it would be hysterical if we drafted him.

Bit of talk coming out that Richmond are seriously considering Tauru at 6 as we are keen at 7.

I’m coming round to being keen with him here if that’s what eventuates.

He is very raw. But check out the impact he has.

First game, gives me Sam Fisher type vibes at CHB.

This game… wowsers. Impact at both ends. Even goes into the midfield for a stint. (Believe at this point in the season he also had a back stress fracture undiagnosed)

Did anyone scream "Why tf didnt we pick Naughton" when we picked Clark and Coffield?

Im agreeing with you actually. I just think throwing your collective toys out of the cot, or popping the champagne corks, when the kid/s we pick hasnt even shaken RTB's hand yet is a folly. Ive been lured by the "Big 6 mids" thing too I admit, but greater judges than any mugs on here reckon this draft bats deep, so Im now good with that.
If we had selected Naughton I would have asked why we selected a forward when we were crying out for mids.
Like I did about Coffield ( always a HBF'ER), like I did about McCartin.
At least with Clark, then Jones and Crouch followed by selecting Pou and Wilson and recruiting the likes of Dow, Macrae, Carroll and Hall, we are at least trying to get some midfield depth.
Draft selection is much more exact than even 5-7 years ago. They are still 18 and need developing however their development is enhanced by a vigorous u18 comp and champs and having them experience AFL clubs for training and playing in the VFL.
It is much easier to identify a low risk, high quality players and also to identify the top players.
There are always sliders, Bolton taken 3 picks after long, Butters at 13, Cripps around that etc, however if you look at the top half dozen or so players in the last few drafts, there is hardly a bust.

I want two quality mids or I would settle for Tauru and a quality mid if Tauru gets through.
I don't want quantity of above average and solid citizen players, our whole list is made up of that, and while there is no Harley Reid ( only Murphy this draft) there are a great number of mids who will still be available.

Whomever we select, I will get behind them, and want them to succeed, Luke every Saints player.

I don't think we will, but it is St.Kilda. I think our best marketing slogan goes all the way back to the Blighty era.

"Expect the Unexpected" (2001, IIRC). That sums us up as club, quite perfectly. 🤣

If it looks like a Nick Riewoldt, runs like a Nick Riewoldt, and marks like a Nick Riewoldt, then that's good enough for me. If he's still there at pick 7 grab him.

If they don't get him at that pick or if and when he's available to us, it will be a heck up of McCartin/Petracca proportions.

I’d say it’s pretty likely North pick Tauru.
Guaranteeing us 1 of the big 6.
For me it will be langford or Smillie.
I just can’t see Langford slipping past Melbourne or Richmond.
Smillie would suit our need perfectly.

if Smilie makes it to us, will we even take him? Twomey does not seem to link him to us at all, in fact he said that if Richmond do not take him at 6, then Smillie was a chance to make it to them at 10... this board would definitely melt!

If North keeps pick 2 then I’m not sure they will draft Tauru. They are just as likely to draft a mid.

I think Tigers are probably bluffing by threatening to take Tauru at pick 6. To spook North into a pick swap with them in case they are considering a pick swap with us. Seriously, if that is correct, then Richmond should just pay up to secure the pick.

Maybe Saints are working behind the scenes to move up the draft board.

I see Roo cross Lucocious

So difficult to work out who will be the picks for us. Many variables. So I have no clue of the names I think we should get. Let alone one we do not want. All depends who falls to us at our picks.

But I do know the type of player that fits the bill. And I hope the recruitment process has worked it out. We want highly motivated competitive players. Beasts if you prefer that word with their will to win.

Nice players….don’t want. Not dirty players, but ones who are not walkovers when the heat is on. That’s who we want. Who do we think they are? Who wins the ball when it’s in dispute? Who chases and tackles? Who never gives up?

For example Langford sounds highly competitive despite the knocks on various aspects of his game. This is the area that highly touted youngsters fall by the wayside. Just not tough and competitive enough.

Peckett despite his lower status might be another of this ilk. Hope so. Who are the others?

I see it as a win win, tauru goes before our pick a top mid slides, and if he doesn't get picked then we pick him. He looks like a gun, we have 2 more picks to use on mids and this draft is chockers

also I think our gameplan with the slingshot run and carry lends itself to the more mobile marking players like tauru at 193, similar to sharman, rather than the 200cm plus types (not looking at anyone in particular)

:eyes:

Idk what tauru's tank is like but he definitely moves well and jumps and takes it at its highest point which is the best type of marking forward

TheJackal did.

Clark was a HBF, Reid is a ball magnet, he's growing on me, rapidly.
If Gringo is correct and we're getting footy's equivalent to an Heironoymus Bosch type architect doing outrageous mind bending Dick pics that make us question our place in the universe, then we can't afford to not have him signed and sealed at pick 7.
