Finally getting close to draft night/s.

Personally really looking forward to it and for the first time in a few years I trust our staff to do the right thing.

Have not been silly during trade week (will miss Membrey but can understand why he has gone - 2 years etc) but we are in a very solid position.

Keep our views internal I do not give a flying fk about others views of the club need to control what we can control.

Go with pick 7 and 8 or split 8 if a great offer comes in , either way we should end up with great players coming into the club and continue to improve.

Tauru has franchise player written all over him in my opinion.

He’s a real bums on seats type of footballer, and makes plays that change the trajectory of momentum.

I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever drafts him turns him into an old fashioned follower that has the freedom to move around the ground and impact as he sees fit.

At worst you get an intercepting HB. Best you get a Nat Fyfe arial mid type.

I always find it fascinating the 2 common arguments.

1. He’s too small and his game won’t translate playing midfield against men in the AFL.

2. He only dominates at school boy level given he’s bigger than everyone else and that won’t translate against bigger bodies in the afl.

Both are regularly proven incorrect. Size doesn’t always matter :)
Smarts do though

I hope we trade our F1 in, want to go all in on this draft and gain an extra year of development for another touted prospect if possible.

7,8 and a pick in the teens would be wonderful. 7, and 3 picks in the teens would be similarly alluring.

Still pissy at WCE for giving Carlton 3, has no impact on us, but hate seeing the gimme handout.

Liking the look of Langford, Draper, Tauru & Reid. As soon as I saw Reid nutmeg a player to set up a goal I was sold. Lindsay, Hynes and Trainor go alright too. Smillie im not totally sold on but I’ll be on the hype train if we pick him up, could be anything, and has been touted as a #1 pick pre champs.

I was reading some of the pre season training reports yesterday, and we already have a really promising bunch of young players, got me giddy just thinking about adding a couple more top 10 picks to that (or whatever it ends up being). No doubt, it’s all kinda about who do we set up in the mids with Phillipou so that’s what I’ll be keeping an eye out come next Wednesday night.

JAGGA FIRMING AS A TOP-FIVE LOCK

Highly-rated Victorian midfielder Jagga Smith is looking increasingly certain to be a top-five draft pick next Wednesday, with Harvey Langford shaping as a potential slider to St Kilda’s first selection.
Smith is believed to have strong interest from Carlton (pick 3), Adelaide (pick 4) and Melbourne (pick 5) and is no longer expected to get past the Demons.
Richmond is still favoured to select Sam Lalor at pick 1 but has also weighed up Finn O’Sullivan.
With North Melbourne eyeing Alix Tauru at pick 2, Carlton looks set to have a choice between O’Sullivan, Sid Draper and Smith.

The Blues have long been favoured to take O’Sullivan, but are also big fans of Draper and Smith — two other players who would fit their needs nicely.
Draper, Smith and Langford have all been linked to Adelaide at pick 4, while Smith and Langford look the most likely options for Melbourne at pick 5.
The Tigers are widely tipped to use pick 6 on Josh Smillie, while Brisbane Lions father-son prospect Levi Ashcroft is expected to attract a top-five bid.

If Twomey echoes this in the next 72 hours then Langford is a Saint

Still at the Mercy of North and Tauru
There’s no world where they don’t take him.

There would be a melt of epic proportions from all stakeholders at Arden St if they drafted yet another mid.

Rawlings and Thursfield would be asked to resign effective immediately.

Having just seen our fixture, I’m hesitant to part with our future first. Could very well be a top 3-5 pick.

Dylan Alexander's take of the best outcome for Stkilda from the draft
Pick 7 Either Smillie or Allan
Pick 8 Taj Hotton (Speed forward of centre)
Pick 32 Small Forward Hannaford/Algar
Pick 47 Match for Cole

A bit awkward taking Hotton given we delisted his brother!
No reason we couldn’t take Smillie & Allan..different players
Like his small forward options too but we need talls to help replacement of Hayes, Battle & Membrey…plus another ruckman

The two Hottons I have seen play ( his father and Ollie) have been bang average.

A close mate from high school went to uni with Trent & I went to quite a few of their uni parties (RMIT Bundoora from memory).

He was a class A w***er.

Not based on the opinions of the fans on their board.

All this talk of a new Barks/Rooey has this 1980's kid & young adult of the 2000's going more & more towards the Flying Viking.
For a kid that dominated games in the back end of the season (posted a few game clips last night)

He is still very raw.

You can see the appeal and why the wild rise is occurring.

I like Langford as a player but believe he’s very similar to Phillipou…prefer Allan who has speed plus power
This I disagree with.

Similar in height.

Pou has more speed but Langford has natural midfield ability and nous.

Pou more Xfactor. Langford just wildly consistent.

Langford gives me 04-10 Lenny vibes. Well balanced mid who just goes to the well every game at amazing consistency

So difficult to work out who will be the picks for us. Many variables. So I have no clue of the names I think we should get. Let alone one we do not want. All depends who falls to us at our picks.

But I do know the type of player that fits the bill. And I hope the recruitment process has worked it out. We want highly motivated competitive players. Beasts if you prefer that word with their will to win.

Nice players….don’t want. Not dirty players, but ones who are not walkovers when the heat is on. That’s who we want. Who do we think they are? Who wins the ball when it’s in dispute? Who chases and tackles? Who never gives up?

For example Langford sounds highly competitive despite the knocks on various aspects of his game. This is the area that highly touted youngsters fall by the wayside. Just not tough and competitive enough.

Peckett despite his lower status might be another of this ilk. Hope so. Who are the others?
You’ve described Bo Allan..
