Pick 7: Smillie/Langford

Trade pick 8 with some future steak knives (Future 2nd or 3rd maybe) to GWS for 15 & 16

Pick 15: Reid/Lindsay

Pick 16: Shanahan/Trainor

I'm getting more and more comfortable with the idea of trading pick 8 down to 2 picks in the teens. Pick 8 gets GWS first choice of "the best of the rest" and a future pick, while we get the choice of the back of the pack of the next little group. Hopefully GWS has a clear favourite after Tauru and the top group of mids and are willing to pay for it.

So are we thinking Monday 6-ish? Late mail similar time on Tuesday?

I don’t want to be at Pearl Jam breaking out to a bit of Cal Twomey.

I don’t want to, but ….
See if you can get Eddie Vedder to read out the Twomey top 10 during the set.

72 + hours of this left.
ive travelled to thailand, been here 5 nights since end of that dfa and pick trade period & time is still going so damn slow, ive had a very light time on the booze so far,so im setting to write myself off today and tuesday with a break in between to see if time will go faster, might spend monday seeing if some aussie friendly looking sports bar will have it on the big screen, bit more appealing than just having it on the laptop in the room

That’s about the right list and of those the most likely to be remaining are Hotton & Hynes who I think are a level below so then we are crossing our fingers Reid falls through or we are ok to risk it with Trainor.

Allan Travaglia Lindsay Armstrong and Shanahan will all be gone by 15

I would expect something like

8. GWS - Travaglia
9. Mel - Armstrong
10. Rich - Allan
11. Rich - Shanahan or Reid
12. WC - Lindsay
13. Port - Shanahan or Reid
14. Freo - Berry

15. Stk - Hynes
16. Stk - Trainor ? Hotton?

Maybe someone goes earlier on a Whitlock eg. Port if Shanahan is gone but I think the top end of this pool ends at pick 12 or 13 then the next lot through to about 25 are interchangeable depending on preference and risk appetite.

Maybe we know Reid will drop all the way but more likely I think we are one of the clubs who don’t want him all the talk is we like Travaglia Lindsay and Allan none of them will be available at 15
Jack Whitlock to Tigers

Lindsay is not a guarantee to be gone by 15

8. GWS - Travaglia
9. Mel - Allan
10. Rich - Hotton/Reid
11. Rich - Whitlock/Shanahan
12. WC - Reid/Lindsay
13. Port - Armstrong/Shanahan
14. Freo - Berry

West Coast and Richmond seem like the most significant variables for us

West Coast seemingly being the only team with Lindsay high on the priority list is good for us

Mission will say something along the lines of we will draft best available be it tall or small and no focus on midfield and everyone on this board will blow up thinking we are taking Armstrong at 8 and everyone else on bigfooty will think we are taking Tauru

Whether we take 7&8 or 7 split 8 we want to take 2 midfielders 1st rounders

Pick 8 for 15 & 16 is about right. No need to trade out future picks.

GWS are jumping up from 15 to 8. The price they can pay for vaulting 7 spots in the draft order is to pay pick 16.

I’d be tempted to upgrade 32 to 21 and using a future pick would be okay for that. It also removes the risk that 32 is absorbed by matching a bid for Cole.

haven't watched much of her in recent years, but she always seemed like a good vibe
She was on a podcast with Barrett recently basically talking down our prospects this year. Had very little positive things to say about us.

Arrogant Hawthorn supporter.

She’s a hack.

You would think that Tigers after taking 2 mids can afford to take a risk of say 10 Hotton and a tall of 11 Armstrong or Shannahan.

After our selection at 7and potentially 8, Melb could take Allen Reid Travaglia Lindsay or Tarau, whoever is left. Tarau makes the most sense as he can play either end which Dees need.

WCE or Freo won't go past Allen/lets say Lindsay pairing, and Berry seems set for Port as a need.

So the ball is in GWS court do they have a hard on for a player at 8 of the group we can choose from or most likely get one of the above Travaglia et and have a choice of Armstrong Shannahan and Trainor all of whom they don't need in the short term.

But would we Saints be happy with potentially say Reid at 7 and risk having the GWS grouping selections as that is the reality, or with potentially maybe a midfield slider if Armstrong and Shanahan both go earlier....Taj Hotton at 16 would be an ironical outcome.

In one draft I saw us with Lindsay and Armstrong at 7 and 8 and I almost preferred GWs Reid and Hotton at 15 and 16. So the upcoming night is going to be intriguing.

Have we given opposition supporters and pundits much positive to say about us?

We started 2023 off great, but since then there hasn't been a lot to write home about. Of course we know we had a tough draw to start the year and had a lot of injuries, but try telling a neutral supporter that Mason Wood is an absolutely massive loss and they'll wonder if your heads screwed on straight.

Every team from 9 to 14 would have their own list of reasons why 2024 didn't work out for them and we'd roll our eyes at most other teams excuses, no reason why they wouldn't do the same for us.

She agreed with Barrett that our wins in the last 9 weeks of the season were meaningless. Despite us beating several finalists and them being desperate to beat us.

Don’t mind her having an opinion but she had nothing positive to say and what she did say lacked depth, balance and detailed analysis. The same as Barrett.

She is part of the AFL media landscape. Has been for ages. Hack is an appropriate word.

Misso will present a very straight bat. That or shoulder arms.

Meaningless is a bit harsh, they cost us a couple of top 5 picks 😅

In all seriousness though, I do tend to write off teams that have a late resurgence when it doesn't matter anymore. It obviously shows they can play because they beat good sides with a lot to play for. But you'd like to see them win a few more while still contending with the beast of expectation.

Just had a gathering for a family member and Lindsay was in attendance.
Lots of convos with lots of clubs, very impressed with the multiple meetings with the saints.

Makes me think we’re trading 8 for teen picks.

I wouldnt be surprised if we called out his name at pick #8. I think we are unlikely to trade picks with Richmond and Xavier will be gone before the current GWS picks.

Well there is that rumour on big footy that the giants will get 13 and 29 for 16 and 21.

So 8 + 32 for 13 + 15

Means we likely get Lindsay or Reid

Yep he plays a straight bat - his media performances are about as exciting as Richo's. 🤣
