Travaglia makes a lot of sense to me. He’s a strong runner and he has the ability to play midfield and half back. His contested, clearance and tackle numbers this year in the Coates league suggest he’s already a very strong u18 midfielder. Any midfielder we draft with our second pick will need to have the versatility to play elsewhere for a while anyway.
He’s a quality player and one of the most well rounded players in the draft pool…have a hunch he’s the one GWS want at our pick 8 if they can get hold of it

Just went over my notes I made during the Champs.
Only player to have more ticks next to his name than Reid was Jagga Smith.

Travigalia got lots of love as well.

Smillie lots of ticks in the first half.

One notable mark by Langford. I wrote 'Stringer like' if that means anything.

You made NOTES?
That’s seriously impressive stuff.
( Looking for a recruiting position are you? ) 😉🤣

He spends alot of time at school clinics?

And then what? I guess preseason training has started, that will go some way to filling the footy vacuum. If you say cricket or horse racing I will come over to Australia just to bash you

Really enjoyed scrolling through this from last season.

Collard really had quite a few suitors, he also performed really strong at the combine. His 2km time is also really impressive, seems strange the training reports also mention him not being able to keep up.

If it clicks for him and his head is in the game, could he really special for us. Likewise with Schoenmaker too, Darcy Wilson is already a star!

There is a chance that North Melbourne don't find a suitor for pick #2 and they succumb to the vigorous encouragement of the Saints' recruiters. Let's say they accept pick #7 and F1 giving us pick #2; who do we take at pick #2?

in my view it is a choice between FOS and Draper (either would be fine)

now let's play out the rest of this draft to our next pick

1 Rich Lalor
2 NM trade pick #2 for StK pick #7 and F1
2 StK Ashcroft (Bris)

3 StK FOS / Draper
4 Car FOS / Draper / Smith
5 Ade FOS / Draper / Smith

6 Melb Smillie / Langford
7 Rich Lombard (GC)
8 Rich Smillie / Langford

9 NM Tauru

10 StK ???

The choices arround that pick would include Lindsay, Reid, Trainor, Hotton, Allan and Travaglia

personally if we don't take a midfielder, then i'd opt for Trainor

Now instead of just using our second pick in the draft in this scenario, lets also trade picks #8 and #32 to GWS and bring in picks #16, #21, and #56 so now our next pick has blown out to #19 or #20

10 GWS Kako (Ess)
11 GWS Lindsay
12 Melb Armstrong
13 Rich Ess trade 2x F1s for pick #13
13 Ess Allan
14 Rich Reid
15 WCE Shanahan
16 Port Travaglia
17 Freo Berry
18 GWS Trainor
19 StK Marshall (Bris)
20 StK Hynes
21 WB Hannaford
22 Rich Hotton
23 Syd Whitlock
24 Rich Faull
25 StK Moraes
26 Syd Whitlock
27 Rich Oliver

Actually given we probably won't get pick #2, if we do happen to have Langford fall to us, then we should look at bringing his best mate Cooper Hynes in too. Powerful bloke, forward / mid, nice kick, takes a few risks, kicks a few goals.

Still unsure about Langford.

Think there a world where he ends up a Joel Selwood type champion. On the other hand I feel like he might always be too slow on the outside. Defensively and offensively. I don’t think he has the kicking penetration or power as Hayden Young and Jordan Dawson.

I think the question for me is two fold can he get separation from the stoppage either by using his smarts ie Clark , Pendles, or the other thing I’ve noticed in his game that would be the game changer is his ‘innate’ strength. Some players regardless of their size have an immense natural strength to shrug tackles. Ie (Dane swan, Chris Judd) He did show this at NAB league level. The question will it translate.

I don’t think you could have 2 players similar to Langford.

But we are a side who murder teams when we get it on the outside and can run + overlap.

We lack that rolls Royce midfielder that can dominate inside, move in and out of stoppages and has a game that isn’t built on a specific attribute like speed that can be taken away by opposition tactics.

That midfielder is Langford.

Kid is a rolls Royce midfielder that you should be able to build a midfield around in 3-4 years.

25.5 disposals for Vic Country
25.9 disposals for the Stingrays
