Nas was comfortably the most skillfull player in the draft.

The only appealing aspect to Travaglia’s game that he can run and he is local.

There is no upside to this guy. He stinks to high heaven as a bust
His upside is massive. If he did transition into a mid he looks like a jet modern mid who can run all day. He basically looks like another Darcy Wilson type, and Darcy goes alright.

I get the angst at not getting one of the highly rated inside mids but Travaglia looks very good to me.

Hey mouth breathers, we have the picks YOU want, it is massively in our favour or we just use them.

We’ve already got Darcy Wilson though. We drafted Wilson at 18 and he was a much better prospect than this guy in his draft year.

Why the actual feck would we spend 8 on a guy who do obviously can’t kick it and MIGHT transition to the midfield.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!

He also said we want mids.

That they ain’t.
Can’t draft them if they aren’t there. Imo you either rate them or you don’t so why pass up two AA potential players for a nice/handy mid. You can slice it and dice it however you want, trading back blah blah but it still amounts to the same thing. Take best available or settle, I know what I’d be doing, others of course will have their own opinions.

It just hit me that the easiest way to get a mid to fall would be to trade our future second rounder for the crows 2x third rounders 😂
I wrote this last night, but used pick 32 as the example. Would still do it if it meant we got Draper or Langford. It actually makes sense to help facilitate that move between the Crows and North. Then trade 8 & F1 for 15, 16 & 21 to leave us with 7, 15, 16, 21 & 2F3s.

We can use the F3s for points this year if required, or to smooth out a trade with Giants who would want points as well.

My other thought was perhaps the mock draft is actually the order in which Cal thinks the picks will go, but the teams taking will be different and he didnt put pick trades in there. That's just my hopium working it's magic but that order actually works for that theory.

I still recall Norths list manager going on about Tauru yesterday, it's rare to bang on about someone for so long if they weren't picking him.

If the worst case scenario is to take Tauru and probably move our pick 8 back in the order then it's not ideal but it's not the end of the world.

Well they are my morning thoughts. Being a Saints supporter is fun 😂

Ideally we just cut Adelaide out of it, no need to help them out. In your trade, north get Tauru and our F2 for pick2.

So if the problem is that Tauru will fall to our pick, we trade 7 and F2 to north for 2. We take FOS at 2, rest of the draft unfolds as per Twomey’s mock and we can do whatever we like at 8 with slightly less melt.

Everybody’s happy except Adelaide. Which I’m fine with.

"And Tauru is an immediate Battle replacement."

you dont seriously believe that
Before we put a cap on players ages and introduced a draft young players often came in and had an instant impact. We don’t need him in that roll but he looks a talent to me and certainly fits our game style.

Maybe this is the reason we signed up Carroll. Could read the tea leaves from a mile away.

I'm sorry, but another poster said it perfectly - you need two to tango. We will never know how much work went into moving up, but maybe it was as simple as puting too higher price on our picks.

Other clubs sold the farm for a lottery, not sure it would have been the wisest move on our behalf.
We know we were in for Picks 3&9 and got neither.

We haven’t moved from 7&8 either and the likely outcome is splitting 8.

That says enough about our intentions.

Another season without genuine mids if we miss this draft. Another year of Row Sincs Steele and Wilkie wasted.

lol absolutely nothing about him says bust. He is one of the most well performed juniors. He is seen as a very safe pick, if you you want to be critical it’s that he doesn’t have the upside of others.

Melbourne or Richmond are a chance to take Tauru before pick 7 though. Carlton won't take Tauru before Adelaide's pick 4 though.
That is the issue. If Tauru was guaranteed our 7 and F1 for 2 would have been done already.

All this squawking about who are the first two draft picks are. I want to know the real mystery of the Saints draft. Which Sandy spud will we rookie? Pretty lean picking now with so many leaving.

Surely this is grounds for us not sticking to the deal. Can’t be expected to pick from whoever’s left when they’re not up to it.

Sure that’s one viewpoint.

What about the viewpoint that no free agent wants to join us until we are a legitimate threat and that leaves mature bodies who will still cost a fortune ala Houston or Hill

Cream mids usually go top of the draft. We can make out like we are in such a strong position because we own all our picks.

Or we can target a player and get it done.

Like Carlton did. Melbourne do.

From next year we can move first rounders 2 years in advanced.

Oath! I think they're trolling: "watch me get those Saints fans riled up with my half arsed suggestions" - they all desperately want our picks but think we'll just trade them away for some future picks?

What an absolute pack of jive turkeys

I see your point and it is legitimate, but which top 6 mid would rocket us up the ladder to make us attractive for FA's?

There is no Harley Reid there this year and even if we had pick 5 and 6, the most likely types like Jagga, FoS, Lalor, Ascroft are unavailable.
I think our chance to ho forward in the comp for next year is development of Pou, Wilson, Garcia,Windy etc with Macrae, Dow, Carroll AND having a good run with injuries.

I prefer others to Travaglia. I would even prefer Allan, but much prefer Reid.

Anyway the way I see any player available to us having a significant impact would be Tauru, huge X factor. And everyone should forget him as just a backman, Reiwoldt was an out and out wingman but never played there.

jeeze he looks good here, moves like a mid for sure

I don’t get the angst. Even in the best drafts half of the top 10 will end up a GOP or below. Travaglia has something about him. If Dalrymple rates him that’s probably for a reason. As I’ve said, multiple position mids who can run will play a lot more footy for us than one position inside extractors. Inside mids change clubs a lot more than dynamic ones do.

Yeah, it f***ing was.

What wasn't worth it was the poor loss to Geelong and Bombers early in the year, falling just short of GWS on the road, etc. etc.

Sick of posters blaming Higgins when you can pick any multitude of moments to have a ping at.

Would people be saying the same thing about Dougal's goal saving heroics against the Swans? Can't see anyone having a crack at him?
Agree the Higgins goal was 100% worth it. Couldn't have done it to a better club!

If things don't fall the way we are all hoping, I am choosing to blame North. Not Dougs, not Higgins. Not SOS or Gubby. North bloody Melbourne!

Paying pick 25 for a 29yo Caleb f****ng Daniel left them with zero currency to maneuver. Who's level 3 brain explosion was that??? That one decision left them to either overreach, or completely miss out on the type of players they actually NEED to be competitive in a game of football sometime this decade!

Ignoring Larkey (poor bugger), that rabble is going into 2025 with a KPP list of Cam "2 good games a year" Zurhaar, 19yo Zane Dursmaa, Callum "Richmond discard" Coleman-Jones, Aiden "please don't kick the ball" Corr, Griffen Logue off an ACL and an extremely washed Jack Darling.

Instead, they could have maneuvered picks 2 and 25 into 3 or potentially even 4 picks between 6 and 30. Walked away with some combination of Tauru, Shanahan, Armstrong, Trainor and / or one or both Whitlocks. And with their F1 still intact!

Instead they get 1 gun mid, Jack Darling padding his superannuation and a midget to run around at half back.

Picks 3, 9, 14 were all on the table. Three clubs hold multiple picks in the top 10. Another two have multiple picks in the teens. About half the AFL did pick swaps in or out of the first round, and they missed the boat on all of it!

Noooo. Lets wait until draft night. Maybe we can get 2 future 3rd rounders from Adelaide. Or really hold out for a future 2 in a draft that nobody wants to be a part of. That will really accelerate the rebuild!

If that was my club, I would be wanting heads to roll. In the most even draft this century, stacked with mids at the front end, what the actual f**k are they still doing with pick 2???????

Incompetent p**ks!

Yeah I don’t get the angst..the kid is a ripper as is Tauru, a kid that will excite supporters and get bums on seats!
Couldn't agree anymore Mike. Tarau would be a potential battle replacement with a higher ceiling. Tobie Travaglia is quick, clean hands and a booming kick and good overhead just needs to become a better decision maker with his kicking.
Trade out F1 for Lindsay or Reid and we are cooking with gas

I don’t think any rocket us up and it wasn’t my point.

My point was we need to start genuinely building via the draft with top end picks. A midfield brigade.

If we keep sticking to the middle of the ladder. Hoping for free agents. We will hit a rebuild.

Langford/Smillie/Draper etc would all fill major needs. Would all help us start to put the pieces of our puzzle together.

We scream about it every year how we don’t have them. Well we have all the currency and assets to do something about it and it doesn’t sit well with me if we don’t.
