We’ve already got Darcy Wilson though. We drafted Wilson at 18 and he was a much better prospect than this guy in his draft year.

Why the actual feck would we spend 8 on a guy who do obviously can’t kick it and MIGHT transition to the midfield.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!
Reality is you know very little about him as a player and none of us do. Have you ever seen him play? Melting over a bloke we might pick is over the top. In a year's time he might look like the best player in the draft. He clearly can play. He was also a late bloomer so maybe they think there's more improvement in him.

We know we were in for Picks 3&9 and got neither.

We haven’t moved from 7&8 either and the likely outcome is splitting 8.

That says enough about our intentions.

Another season without genuine mids if we miss this draft. Another year of Row Sincs Steele and Wilkie wasted.

Just need best available players. We need mids but so did Sydney. Got more out of picks outside 30 than their top 10 picks. Hugo comes on as well as Phillipou and the kids are going to struggle to get a run.

gringo2011 sounds like Stav is taking on the pessimistic look.

Sure that’s one viewpoint.

What about the viewpoint that no free agent wants to join us until we are a legitimate threat and that leaves mature bodies who will still cost a fortune ala Houston or Hill

Cream mids usually go top of the draft. We can make out like we are in such a strong position because we own all our picks.

Or we can target a player and get it done.

Like Carlton did. Melbourne do.

From next year we can move first rounders 2 years in advanced.
Look I’ll admit we need an A grade young mid or we need to bring one in. Now knowing and getting are two different things as we all know. What I’m saying is that reaching and passing over gems we need for another short of that class does exactly what for us in terms of that A grade mid ?.

Just for arguments sake I hear how we have this trash midfield but on stats does anyone have the figures on how we made out last year ?. Then we also had a really poor run with injury, maybe we don’t need to do quite as much as we think. McRae certainly helps, Carroll we’ll see, poo to continue as he finished, a fit Clark, a fit dow, a fit Henry.

Also Twomey is good but it isn’t over just yet, let see how it plays out.

Sydney also has the safety net of that ****ing academy.

I don’t get the angst. Even in the best drafts half of the top 10 will end up a GOP or below. Travaglia has something about him. If Dalrymple rates him that’s probably for a reason. As I’ve said, multiple position mids who can run will play a lot more footy for us than one position inside extractors. Inside mids change clubs a lot more than dynamic ones do.
That's such a good point. The type of players that if often described as a 'pure' mid is becoming a thing of the past and can be picked up much later in the draft.

Yeah, it f***ing was.

What wasn't worth it was the poor loss to Geelong and Bombers early in the year, falling just short of GWS on the road, etc. etc.

Sick of posters blaming Higgins when you can pick any multitude of moments to have a ping at.

Would people be saying the same thing about Dougal's goal saving heroics against the Swans? Can't see anyone having a crack at him?
This Higgins stuff is like a rancid fart that won't disperse.

Couldn't agree anymore Mike. Tarau would be a potential battle replacement with a higher ceiling. Tobie Travaglia is quick, clean hands and a booming kick and good overhead just needs to become a better decision maker with his kicking.
Trade out F1 for Lindsay or Reid and we are cooking with gas

Imagine the combination of Sinclair, Nas, Tavaglia & Tauru as attacking springboards, with the weapon of Arie’s kicking!

You have been big on the multiple position mid. That's why I have been excited about the Langford talk.
Travaglia from my champs notes had a very strong game.
If he is a massive runner and can play multiple positions he will fit our back end run and gun that was no.1 for goals from the defensive 50 in the league in the last 8 weeks of the season.
We were just to fast for most teams in that period.
Lyon loves fast ball movement, relies on defensive structures to turn the ball.over than off to the races going the other way. Why I was unsurprised we were linked to Lindsay and now Travaglia.
That's why, even though I like Smillie, I don't know if he can run both ways the way Lyon wants.
People will blame Dalrymple and SoS but this has Lyon's fingerprints all over it.

I think you've nailed it there.

The recruiter believes that clubs are no longer simply taking the best player on the draft board, with clubs now preferring to target players that have specific traits to fit into the coach’s game style.

This new outlook on drafting could see draft bolters and sliders become more of a thing as teams have wildly different rankings.

“There’s certainly a lot more structure now in terms of specific traits for specific roles,” Dalrymple told SEN Afternoons.

“We’re really homing in on that part (of recruiting) and then also getting alignment with the club, coach, and the game style, and making sure that there's really strong alignment between recruiting and coaching.

“That’s so that we're identifying players that can fit into the coach’s game plan.

“I think that's probably really drilled down over the last few years compared to early days where it was just looking at just best players available and thinking, ‘Ok, their talent should get them through’.

“Now, it's more specific around traits for roles.”

His upside is massive. If he did transition into a mid he looks like a jet modern mid who can run all day. He basically looks like another Darcy Wilson type, and Darcy goes alright.

I get the angst at not getting one of the highly rated inside mids but Travaglia looks very good to me.
It's been amusing to read the anti-Trav stuff... this is the same young player who many hope that the Giants rate so highly that they'll give us picks 15 & 16 for!

There is no world where it’s acceptable to walk into the draft with our hand, and walking out of it with 4 defenders in Tauru, Travalgia, Hoffman & Cole given our public acknowledgment of a thin midfield

If this were to eventuate there would absolutely be a please explain from the board/pres to the list management team.

Thats because people want a midfielder. Not a knock on his ability.

This report claims that North and Adelaide would swap 2 for 4 if Adelaide had a 2nd rounder to give them:

Why dont we trade F2 to Adelaide, get 2 F3s back? Or F2 + F4 for 2 F3s?
It really does not matter if we lose on that trade..
Then Adelaide can swap picks with North

With North then taking Tauru at 4 it effectively moves us up this yeard draft order.. i.e. we will then get a mid
F2 for 3xF3s and you have a deal

I love the positivity but it sounds like we'll lose the centre bounces, knowing that we'll springboard from defence. D50 will be our new centre bounce area. Could that be the game plan? :D

Luckily it won’t happen.
