10 & 11 for 8 & F1.

Get's them the player they want this year and spreads their picks over two years which has been published as their strategy

I doubt Richmond give up both 10 & 11 it would be more likely 11 (with player agreements) & one of their later picks 18-24. Id imagine we have a CHB, small forward or ruckman in our sights for the latter.

Its nice to know that clubs are willing to talk and deal with us given the eventualities. Surely something falls our way come draft night, but Id imagine it would be take a midfielder like Reid or Lindsay plus a later first round pick.
This would be a dream for us. If an elite top 6 mid slips through to pick 7 and then we trade out pick 8 to get 2 more of the tier 2 mids.

8 for 18 & 20 they are saying on X

Thats stretch I feel like its not enough, but if we can make it work it might be plausible. Remembering the general consensus is that players rated from 8-20 are very even so if we can get two in that range it might work. There is a chance Reid or Lindsay slides and Trainor/Shanahan/Barrat/Dodson plus Hynes/Hannaford/Dattolli will most likely be available.

As an example this is what Essendon got for pick #9 = Essendon giving its pick 9 and a future third-round pick to Melbourne. In return, the Dees have given the Bombers picks 28, 40, 46, 54 and 65 in this year's draft as well as their first-round pick in 2025 (which equates to pick 5 this year).

If we are trading with the Tigers I rekon it'll be 8 for 11 + 20. We might throw in some change (F3rd or something) but we get the 2nd pick.

We drop back a little bit by still probably grab the same player and get pick 20 to snap up a sliding option or one of the blanket talls.

Not sure they'd go for 8+F1 for 10+11 but I'd do it.

Grab Tauru, Lindsay + Berry/Reid and im sweet.

A couple of things.

One: I dont think we cant take Tauru and split pick 8, we need Tauru (or something they want) on the board for GWS to do the deal.

Two: and Dylan Alexander pointed this out, If we take Tranvalgia and Tauru, and then take Cole (we will say at with pick 32 because an early bid comes) and our later NGA (I forget his name) - we will be picking up 4 defenders! I doubt we do this. Yes, the 7 and 8 picks may become mids (or forwards) but still 4 defenders.

A girl I once knew had tranvalgia, horrible state of affairs

A bit different as the Dopers needed to trade out.

We don't.

It would be exiting to have 3 of the top 15 talents on the list tomorrow but to play devils advocate, we are still in midfielder no man’s land and giving up a future to be there. Will be upsetting to miss a good mid next year for a flanker this year.

No guarantee either way I guess. For the same reason there were no first round tall talent in this draft 12 months ago is why I am wary of trading out a future first for a flanker that doesn’t fit a need.

Would prefer later teen picks without giving up the future first. Or 8 for 10 and one of the later firsts they have.

Travalgia, Lindsay & Allan in one haul would likely net us one midfielder in the long term. If we’re really desperate to get back in for a mid next year then we can trade in then.

Guys please play minimal attention to this clown.

His mock drafts had Lalor Jagga Smillie all going to Richmond and us trading 8 to take Moraes.

To improve their hand. That would need to improve ours.
If we were desperate for picks we could just go do the same deal with the swans.

They likely going to need to give us 10 + ?

Maybe that’s 8 + F1 for 10+11

Maybe that’s 8 + 32 for 10+20

Frankly who gives a flying what Richmond want or don’t want. It’s like wandering around a yard full of cars you can’t afford offering bad mates rates or starting the bidding on a 4 million house at $500k.

I have no idea if any of this is true but the saints are just wasting time and energy if that’s the offer. Tell them to come back when they’re sober and hang up. There are a few clubs who can make us an offer that might turn our heads, I’m pretty sure the unders will already have been thrown out there.

We’re at the this is going to hurt stage now, anyone who wants 8 is getting bent over not the other way around.

exactly this. it was always going to be extremely difficult to turn battle into an elite mid. there were too many moving parts.

  • needed ladder position
  • needed the compo to happen
  • needed the draft order to work
  • needed to select the right player
  • needed to develop said player into an elite mid

we didnt even get past step 1.

i'd rather pay battle 900k a year for 6 years than be in this position, where according to twomey we are selecting the very player battle already is. so we are going to spend the next 3-5 years developing the guy to see if he can even reach the level battle already was at.

its redic.

if people think this is good list management then you're going to spend the rest of your life watching the saints trying to get into the 6. continually providing other clubs with ready made talent for their own finals push.

We are not selecting a like for like player with Battle. We should all be getting seriously excited about Tauru. Could be the most exciting player in the comp in a few years, amazing athlete, incredible in the air, reckless attack on the ball. Battle has never been better then an average intercept mark. The Curnow comparison from Twomey is a good one actually. Could he be worse then Battle? Absolutely, has high bust potential, but you are drafting him for absolute superstar upside which is as far from Battle (a good, dependable defender) as possible.

If we take Travaglia and trade for late first round picks I will be absolutely livid. If we take Tauru and trade for mid firsts then I will be stoked.

The more that is left on the table at our picks, the more we'll want to split them, but probably the other club(s) will see it the same way and be less likely to want to split them. So I figure if we want to do anything it will have to involve a future pick, which probably means Richmond is most likely (due to them wanting to spread their picks).

I guess available list spots and points will have some relevance, but I just struggle to see both parties agreeing to first round pick swaps using only this year's picks.

Richmond will no doubt finish last next year too, and might trade out a Lynch/Taranto/Balta type. So they'll probably be wanting to spread their picks again. They'll be in bloody good shape when Tassie come along.
