The Saints had been linked to a possible trade with Fremantle, which would see St Kilda part with Pick 8 and slide back to the Dockers’ Pick 14 – as well as acquire another selection – to help the WA club secure Allan. St Kilda, though, is now expected to use both of its top-10 selections on Wednesday night.

But Fremantle remains a trade watch

Lol from 2015 Phantom draft..

HARLEY BALIC
5/1/97, 186cm, 80kg
Sandringham Dragons

If not him?
The Saints seem likely to discuss midfielders Rhys Mathieson, Ryan Clarke and Brayden Fiorini, as well as Jade Gresham, at this selection.

The 10 year search for mids continues..

In terms of draft picks, and especially early picks, then yes you may take the talented 193 player, as you assess all their qualities and being better in some of those qualities (including vertical leap) can offset a lack in other qualities.

While I get your point, the forward, or backlines, ideally need to be a mix of player heights. Quality is always important, but some positions will always be filled by role players, or GOPS.

Ideally you want at least one really tall key back and and key forward. So 193 is fine if you have a taller defender as well.
Having said that virtually every team will have some type of deficiencies, and height alone is not a guarantee (ie Cox at Collingwood). So teams will run at times with short back, or forward, lines because they just do not have adequate quality taller players.

Battle is 193 I believe. The Hawks lured Battle 193 from us, but they also grabbed Barass at 197 to balance out and improve their backline.

May be only 193 but has exceptional strength, and excellent judgement. Trevor Barker was a freak! So players of of 193-ish if they are good enough can certainly play a key position. Do you want both your CHF/FF or CHB/FB to only be 193 though?

Fritsch is a very good forward, but personally I would not want him to be playing the Key Forward role week in/ week out, just as I also did not want Membrey to be doing so. "Third tall" role is where they shine.

Wilkie is exceptional and can certainly play FB well, but I think we see the best of him when he is freed up with Dougal (or eventually another tall) playing the FB role.

Unless we trade up, or a tallish player goes early to push a quality mid back, it looks as would go best available with our first two picks (if not traded) which may gain the 193 Taura!. But then again we may instead try and trade down to gain two other players instead. Much will depend on what we can gain in a trade, and/or if North will trade with us at ok price.
A 193 18yo is likely to end up taller anyway surely

Just went and looked back at Cal's Phantom draft predicting St Kilda's first round picks. I had to get to 2015 before I found an error..
I hope he’s 100% on us tonight, I love those picks. F1 will get us back in with any luck, other teams don’t rate us so it has value plus we have 32. I’m happy for us to shop those around but I want best avaliable at 7/8 so let’s go cal.

Why on gods green earth would we do that ?. I think Fremantle shouldn’t have traded like drunken sailors if they love Allan, looks like they’re out of luck.

C'mon mate, next you're going to tell me that one of our greatest players and captains of all time was a 193cm key forward 😂

Alastair Lynch has the same traits as Tauru.

Won mark of the year early on flying over a pack.

AA full back whilst also being the Fitzroy leading goal kicker in the same year!!

Brisbane leading goal kicker five times as well.

194cm

I’d rather take Tauru and then look at splitting our pick 8 if there is no mids left on the board. Although if Tauru is still there at 8 we probably have more teams interested and more bargaining power.
I was all for Travaglia the other day but we have Hastie, McLennan and Hoffman looking for the same spot. I’m off him now.
I say we take Taura first and then we look to split and hope that we get any 2 of Lindsay, Hynes, Berry, Armstrong, Reid, Shanahan. I left out Hotton, don’t think he wants us!

I agree with this. Get Tauru and split 8. Still think the flying viking will be one of the stand outs of this draft in years to come.

I hope we remember what arseholes Freo were when dealing with them in the past.

Just can't see what they would possibly offer us that gets the deal done. Their next pick is 30, and we'd be insane to accept 14+30 for 8

Surely they won't do 14+F1 for 8, as they need assets for Warner next year. You'd also think that their F2 would be around the 30-35 mark if they're projected to play finals next year, which will blow out to 40+ given bids and F/S and all that nonsense next year.

Can't see it happening. Us trading our F1 for 14 is more likely than them getting 8 off us
