I agree Premium. Not all of those kids will make it obviously but the talent they have is light years ahead of players we had in depth even 5 years ago. De-listings are going to be hard even if they haven't played AFL games. It will show up those that desperately want to make it unless injury intervenes.

Jimmy Webster is a solidly very good AFL player. No star but seriously reliable and we make finals if he didn't have that brain fade in pre-season.

He should be the role model for Hastie, Shoe and McLennan. Who of you want to be a first named medium/small defender at AFL level for a decade? It will be the one with the best "above the shoulders" who is driven to ride the roller-coaster that Jimmy has.

I’d love Dodson. I’d be happy with Shanahan.

But watch it be this guy… have a read

Geez, I'd heard he's come out of nowhere and watched 1 highlights package which was impressive, but the state combine stats are the real eye opener. If he'd pulled those figures at the draft combine he'd have been top 4 for the 2km time trial, agility test and vertical jump. His stats drop off a little in the jump to the National Championships games from the comments there though. Probably hard in this draft year though playing against Vic Metro and Vic Country, basically 2 stacked teams. Looks a very boom or bust pick.

Richmond loaded up on talls.
Dogs are stacked with talls.

West coast could go tall or go Boxshall.

FWIW.

I think Richmond take Dodson
Eagles take Shanahan/Whitlock
Dogs take Moreas & Gross

So it’s Boxshall or Ough for us
Port are into Gross.

any footage i just saw the riewoldt like mark

Twomey 9/9 😂

And people in here thought he doesn’t slam dunk this shit.
Total w***er move on my behalf but whatever:
Those hoping the draft doesn’t play out like Twomey predicts saying this is the most unknown draft order will be sadly mistaken. Pretty sure Twomey says this is the most difficult draft to predict every year to add drama and an excuse if he gets it wrong. He also said it’s unlikely NM trade pick 2 so any mix up in the order looks unlikely now. Get used to Travaglia and Tauru in Saints colours.

I now feel like I support the most scrupulous and tactful club in the league after watching that North move. Holy ****ing shit.

So what's that gonna end up as? 2025 Pick 1 - 7 in exchange for 2024 pick 27 and 2025 pick 19-23, and that 19-23 will be getting pushed back by academy selections supposedly. If North don't perform next year, there's gonna be some steaming fans lol
Get them in is a fair strategy though especially with a compromised draft.

So it’s Boxshall or Ough for us

Rich - Dodson
WB - Moraes
WCE - Whitlock
WB - Gross

We could choose between Shanahan & Boxshall.

Id actually talk to Port about our F2nd for pick 33 to grab both if that happened.

Not sure where we are at for list spots but might be something to work with...

I think the range of possible selections is veryyy wide. Have we been linked with Boxshall or Moreas? I recall Alger and Barrat. You’d think Davis’ running capacity could have him in the frame too. 40 touches on return from injury to the Colts then up to the seniors.

Still in shock about North. Tigers fans have their rebuild all sown up already. 6 picks in the first round this year. At least 2 early first round picks next year. They might have 2 or 3 years of pain but that list is going to have like 9 - 11 1st round drafts picks all within a 3 year age window...

Wish list in order of preference for pick #28 (32) -

Alex Dodson (We need a young mobile ruckman & he has a huge scope for improvement)
Thomas Sims (Another mobile ruckman who can also play FF)
Hugh Boxshall (Quick dynamic midfielder reportedly well liked by club)
Tom Gross (Courageous midfielder who works hard and can snag a goal)
Jobe Shanahan (CHF or CHB another strong mark - probably best player in list but need a ruckman/midfielder more)
Noah Mraz (Tall intercepting defender who is really creative - huge slider due to missing year with injury)
James Barrat (Another key tall who can play both ends, dependable & Saints supporter)
Jack Ough (Tall elusive midfielder, late developer with plenty of upside)

Reality is -

28 Richmond = Alex Dodson/Noah Mraz/Jobe Shanahan
29 Bulldogs = Tom Gross/Jack Ough/Rhys Unwin
30 WCE = Jack Whitlock/Kayle Gerryn/Charlie Nicholls
31 Bulldogs = Christian Moraes/Tom Gross/Rhys Unwin
32 Saints = Hugh Boxshall/Thomas Sims/James Barrat

So thats 10 players who should be taken before a bid on Hofmann. Any bids after pick 40 for Cole are fine, we may even sneak in another pick at some stage if we dont get a ruckman at #32.

So same same with North?

I'm assuming a bid for Hofmann will come at some stage following. Any bids after pick 40 for Cole are fine, we may even sneak in another pick at some stage we dont get a ruckman at #28.
Off a lot less research id rank mine

Dodson
Shanahan
Ough
Boxshall
Barrat
Gross
Sims

FWIW Twomey said that we had done extremely well with our selections and Travaglia will be a midfielder.

Comparisons to Clark and Coff are a bit off, Clark was always looking toward midfield but Coffield was an out and out HBF'ER.
Sounds both of these have a chance of midfield with Travaglia a real prospect.

I think Macrae, Dow, Henry, gives them a chance to develop with Pou, Wilson, Windy and Garcia really start to come on front 2025.
Two really young draftees as well.

Lots of picks =\= cleaning up.

Tigers did this in 2005. Didn't work.

Suns & Giants both got loaded up early. Didn't work.

North have had how many top picks? Hasn't worked.

The Dogs had a Grand Final team, added two top 5 picks in JUH & Darcy, and went backwards.

I ****ing hate this idea that loading up on "talented" kids means a flag is inevitable. There's so much more to it than that.

FMD our THREE best players all came from the rookie list!

I don't think Richmond have secured their future with tonight's draft. To be honest, I was surprised (and at times perplexed) by their decision-making.

Sure, there's a chance this will be looked upon as the greatest draft haul of all time - but they did take a few risks early (when there were definitely safer options still available) and I don't think their haul was the slam dunk I expected before the night began.
  • Lalor and Smillie look like guns. Lalor wasn't my #1 pick, but since there was no Harley Reid in this draft, it was always going to be a toss-up (which goes against Richmond - as the best player could easily have gone #2 or #3 etc).

  • I had Jonty Faull behind Shanahan, Armstrong and both Whitlocks. A really bizarre choice coming as early as it did. Of course, there's a chance they end up with Faull, Armstrong and one of Shanahan/J Whitlock anyway - but it's important to look at the landscape when Faull was taken at Pick #14. Bo Allan was still on the board. Murphy Reid was still on the board, Joe Berry, Cooper Hynes etc.

  • Taj Hotton is coming off an ACL and Trainor has the concussion issues. Both have huge upside, but you're taking a risk (especially with Trainor). All of the players mentioned above were available at Hotton's pick (#12) and you had players like Dattoli, both Whitlocks, Shanahan, Dodson, Moraes (who I highly rate and still hasn't been drafted) available at Trainor's pick (#21).
Overall, I don't think this haul secures Richmond's future. Now, having #1 and possibly #2 (thanks North) next year will help. But they have to nail the picks and we won't know that for years to come. As was said above, our three best players all came from the rookie list - while our prized #1 pick in 2014 (the future of our football club) played 35 games for us. Drafting isn't an exact science.

St Kilda will select 3 to 4 more players Tomorrow Night that may include NGA players Hoffman and/or Cole.
It's possible that we only pick 1 of the above given the selection of Tauru and Travaglia and the need to balance the list.

Ideally, we draft at least 1 midfielder and 1 Ruckman with those Picks.

We currently have picks 32, 51, 76 and 84,.

There are a few clubs that seem to have excess selections that we could target for trades.

Brisbane is expected to take 1 to 2 more selections and have Picks 46, 47, 49,56,59,66, and 69
Carlton is expected to take 3 more sections and have 40, 55, 63,64,67
Collingwood 3 Selections 45, 48, 53, 61
Essendon 3 Selections 37, 39,43,60

OUT
def: Battle, Paton, Bonner, Van Es
ruck: Campbell
mid: Ross, Hotton
fwd: Membrey, Hayes, Allison

IN
def: Tauru, Travaglia, Hofmann*, Cole*
ruck: X
mid: Macrae, Carroll
fwd: X, X, X

Wanted us to split pick 8, but pretty rapt with those first two picks on balance.

Reckon we've hit a pretty sweet spot in the draft for a key/mobile forward as well
