I quite liked Smilie but hes got massive boom or bust potential. Big bodied kids often look like junior stars being bigger and stronger.

Not a "knock" as such but i can see why there was trepidation

His championship games were pretty much going at half effort. I reckon he was heading for pick one until then.

Remember we were publicly talking about trading back into the 2st round this year, as were several other clubs, and almost no one got it done. I think that speaks to the valuation of this years draft vs next years draft. I'm sure we would have offered pick 7 and next years first rounder for pick 2 to Norf. Seems like everyone wanted a piece of this top 10 at the expense of next year, no one wanted out.

Also the fact Norf were contemplating Tauru at 2 supposedly speaks to his value at pick 8. Showed so much so late in the year with injuries interrupting his last 18 months, could have been a solidified pick 2 if he had the opportunity to demonstrate it.

There's an awful lot of "Suns Academy" and "Swans Academy" in that 25 to watch list. Think next off season might be more about trades and Free Agents, particularly after going ahead and drafting SIX (!) U18's players this year, that's a once in a blue moon list move and we obviously picked this draft to do it with the reported depth of talent.

Would not be surprised to see out first pick next year packaged up with something else for a player and us only drafting 2 kids and some shuffling of rookie spots and main list spots.

It’s all a guess at this stage. Jagga Smith was a certain pick 1 and Mraz was a top 10 pick. There are good players in the academies but plenty of players will jump up by next draft.

I suspect thats part of the concern, was it half effort or did he struggle when the level went up and his physical advantages werent as drastic.

To be clear, i really like him and reckon Ross would have been the ideal coach to get the best out of him but i can absolutely see the risk.

And people are hand wringing about Bolton. All Roughhead did (the apparently great bloke) was extract the cash & experience, feck someone’s career then feck off back to Hawthorn. I can’t stand those total pricks especially now Ratten has fumbled his way back there too.
Definitely the team I'd most like to see fail next season.
Arrogant bunch of so and so's off one good season.

Are you sure? We could have always ontraded it to Richmond for pick 27. You need to look at the bigger picture sometimes.
Yeah. I’m sure.
We wanted two very good draft picks and this kid looks one out of the box.
That’s the bigger picture for me.

Wow we knocked back Nth's future first for Tauru? Fmd. That could very well be pick 1.

It could also be pick 12, and you lose a year.
Nobody is gambling on where they think other teams will finish.
If you want to trade a future you need to sweeten the deal.

When do they move to the Dingley tip ?

Its actually looking pretty impressive , you can see it from the Mordy Freeway.

Lights are up and a fairly big structure well underway.
Looks like the ovals have been constructed since before google last did a flyover.

The biggest water park in the Southern Hemisphere is slotted to become their next door neighbour.

With Crouch officially done and Boyd doing the pre season with us it seems like he'll come on and that will complete the list.

As one of my mates says: “very excellent” job. Apparently the Saints and Sandy have negotiated a change to the agreement. Anyone seen driving through Sandringham will be added to the list. With or without consent.

There will be injuries of course - I really hope Garcia never plays scoobs again. And it’s very possible Barrat will take Shoe’s spot to give us the third genuine KPD. It’s a shame they are holding the kids back this week - I would have gone today, but I want to see them at least with the footy and running around with the main group.

Yep I wanted to get Garcia in the senior team but I couldn't put him ahead of Clark or Windy at this stage. Arie is definitely one who will have competition for his spot

Until we get the requisite 15 injuries in preseason and our team looks more like the one you posted second.

We've had two seasons of outrageous fortune as far as injuries go. RTB and all of us deserve a bit of good fortune for once. If we field those two sides on a regular basis, anything is possible.

It smells like shit, seriously.

Hall was playing in a completely new system AND was played out of position, of course his numbers don't jump out

But if you watch the VFL games, you would've seen some really nice glimpses especially in the final game where he clearly stood out as one of the BOGs. Played like Henry where it was more damage per disposal rather than quantity

He showed a significant improvement post-injury - probably after more education and learning more about our game style
about
I reckon with 3-5 more rounds of the season, he would've made a debut

He's 22. Had 2 years wiped out by knees when he was 16 and 17 AND was in the COVID cohort so had zero continuity. Once he started playing again, Dalrymple said he was one of the biggest 2023 off-season improvers in the state leagues, hence his good form at the start of the year

This has late-bloomer written all over it if I've ever seen one.

I'll wait till 2025 and see.

even though Hall was injured part of the year, i couldnt understand in giving him the 18 month contract. oh we will see.

part of the agreement with MSD was that players can opt for wither a 6month or 19 month contract prior to being drafted.

I would hazard a guess and say that 90+% of players who opt for the draft, go for 18 month contracts.

Makes complete sense. How can they prove themselves in a completely hew system and environment in just 6 months?

You've also got to keep in mind that some of the players picked in the MSD have jobs that they have to give up. Some might have to move interstate. It's a fair commitment when you might get cut after six months and not have a job to go back to.

I knew relatives of a guy who was rucking for Frankston some years back. He went to the Doveton footy team , because a guy associated with that club got him an apprenticeship.
