With Taylor isn’t he an intercept defender like Sicily not a man marking one like we need hey It would be awesome to see him play for us but would it work with Sicily and Taylor in the backline.

Unless you push Sicily forward.
Your kidding aren't you?. Bloke is an absolute ELITE stopper and can intercept as well if required. Would free up Sicily to do what he pleases every week. Taylor is who you jump off a cliff for to get him to play for your club. We will have an A grade defence with 1 acquisition if it occurs.

Worpel must be one of the most underestimated player on our list. What he has shown in first couple of years, none of our first round mids have been able to. He has been carrying whole midfield which is supposed to be our premiership core and no-one is even closer. I know Day is better and injured. Trade Worpel is going to be chasing fools gold.

That's the best option. One more year of no true KPD in 2025, but at least we will keep our top pick this season and likely bring in Smith.

Next season we won't have a top pick, but we can bring in Taylor which more than makes up for it.
This is the play IMO:

2024
Battle - Free Agent
Smith - 2025 1st
Use 2024 1st @ Draft

2025
Taylor - Free Agent
- hopefully, pick purchase a 1st from someone

100%. And we are not challenging next year, so no point spending top draft picks on a player we can get for nothing in 12 months.

I'd be very surprised if we land Taylor this year but I can definitely see us laying the ground work for a massive FA bid for 2025.

For once I'm glad to hear us go early rather than being so reactive. Having Roughy is going to give our list management a new dynamic.

That is why we are keen on trading a first in. I hear Geelong already interested in Worpel. Hawks would drive a hard bargain, if at all, but a Geelong first and second might be on the table. Or swap him for Holmes and forget about Smith?

Thanks Tops I feel we need to mix the midfield up as it’s very much same same in there.

It's hard to forecast obviously, but if we have another dire season then dishing out two firsts for Taylor could be risky business.

Not because there's any doubting his ability, but we really need some more of the youngsters to announce themselves and show us they are long-term players. We could be overestimating the list like Clarko did. Though if we have a strong finish to the season then it would be more understandable.

This is what I’m so worried about and yes I go on about it ALOT but I’m really worried about it that this list rebuild will be more like the 1996/2001 list rebuild then the 2004/2008 one because we don’t have the elite kids.

The rebuild is moving along quickly. Just waiting for players to have game experience.

Mackenzie game last week against the cat was his best so far.

Almost every club in league would go after Taylor if he was available. How many guys go from contending sides to bottom sides as FA? It’s a pipedream. Let alone gws may match anyway if they are contending.

We are short a young elite KPF and KPD. If you cast your mind back to 2004 we had less elite young talent on our list than we do now. But we really need to find a couple more young elite talls.

Personally I'm confident that all of: Newcombe, Day, Mackenzie, Ginnivan, Ward, Moore, Weddle, Mitchell, Watson and MacDonald are quality long-term players, they've all shown enough. It's only been three games for D'Ambrosio, but signs are looking good.

Whether any of them become AA level elite, who knows? Though I believe that Newcombe, Day and Mackenzie will. Probably Watson too as a small forward.

I'd love to see a few out of Hustwaite, Butler, Ramsden, McCabe, Dear (those five in particular), Macdonald, Ryan, Serong, JOS and Bennetts get some games this season and for them to show enough to suggest they have long-term futures here. Would have been great to see Blanck play the whole season well.

Plus Worpel, CJ, Scrimshaw, Nash, Hardwick, Chol and Lewis all likely have several years left of good footy. So the base is there. We just need them to show the signs of improvement this season as it progresses.

I'd say we'd be offering a 6 year thumper on $1.5m a year. It'll be that eye watering he wont be able to say no.
Would cost 2 firsts. Doubt we'd have the capital to also trade for Baz.
Worth a shot.
Dogs have said they are actively looking at bringing more young mids in.

We have a plethora of young mids. Something to consider.

Trading Worpel for a pick in the mid teens and 30's make no sense.

Can't match our offer - wouldn't have the cap space.

Ahhh, it's GWS - I see what you did there.

Talk of trading Nash as he’s out of form like some were talking of trading Worps soon after his form after winning a B&F ….. heck let’s throw in Newk & Ward while we are at it!!!!! It won’t happen overnight. Patience grasshoppers.

Nash was better last week, hopefully he's just building into the season.

His and Worpel's names get put forward because, ideally, the younger group overtake them at some point (may never happen) and they are the least versatile. Day and Newcombe are the untouchables.

If The Dogs came out at trade time and said for Smith we want Nash what would you do trade or walk?

If we plan on challenging again in 2 years.
I’ve gone through the age profile of our team in 2026.

B - Hardwick 29, Blanck 25, Scrimshaw 27
HB - S.Mitchell 23,Sicily 31, Weddle 21
C - MacKenzie 22, Worpel 27, CJ 26
HF - C.Mac 23, Chol 29, Moore 26
F - Ginni 23, Lewis 27, Watson 21
R - Ramsden 22, Newcombe 24, Day 24

Mc Cabe 20, B.Ryan 20, Dear 20
O’Sullivan 21, Hustwaite 21, Bennets 21,
Tucker 21, D’ Ambrosio 22, Ward 23, Butler 23, Serong 23, DGB 23, Stephens 25, Maginess 25, Phillips 26, Morrison 27, Meek 27, Nash 27, Reeves 27, Impey 30, Amon 30, Frost 32, Wingard 32

Some of these players will be delisted or traded.

Draft - Pick the best talent.
Trades & Free agents should be players that can add to this group. KPD is a must unless we can develop one from our own list.

That won’t happen so what’s the use ……. I think with Smith it will come down to where he really wants to land which will have a big say on the deal that gets done. Having said that I reckon the dogs would want more than that.
