List Mgmt. 2024 List Mismanagement and Trading Part 2

This looks most likely.
It's stupid to lock yourself up like that. Should have had one spot available. That way if a player you love falls and is unexpectedly available, you can still grab them.
I think at least part of the issue is that the ANB & Peatling trades were always going to damage our 2024 draft hand in particular, so there wasn't any point in keeping a list spot open that would have to be filled with a very late draft pick.

Berry, Crouch, Laird & Schoenberg should all have been told that their future lies solely in the SANFL. Surely 2 of them would have been shaken loose and we could look at covering their salary to maximise trade value. And even if what we got was a pittance, there's a chance that we get to our pick at 5 and there's 3 players we rate equally and someone's offering us 6,7 or 8 plus their second to move to 5 because they're desperate for a certain player. Even using our remaining 3rd if Welsh isn't bid upon by then could end up being a player that makes our contending team better.

Without Peatling we've got enough mids to run through the rotations - Dawson, Rankine, Soligo, Rachele, Taylor, Pedlar, Dowling, Edwards, Pick 4-7 plus 2 of the above and Keays in a pinch.

Absolutely we should have delisted someone like Burgess to give us the option of trading back in if someone we liked was sliding.

Worst case scenario is we re-list them after.

Looking like pick 4 and 2 rookie upgrades to make the ND numbers, and Welsh in the rookie draft
Doubt it.

Pick 4 midfielder, Welsh & Keane upgrade more likely imo.

Taylor, Peds and Rachelle don’t yet have the tank for large midfield minutes and Edwards is yet to debut

Until that group become more established we are still thin

It’s ok to be thin whilst rebuilding, you need to be rotating through your options rather than locking in your current best 5 to grind away to 10th.

Welsh won't receive a bid in the main draft, hence we'll get him cheaply (and automatically with our first pick per the rules) in the rookie draft.

The lack of additional delistings points that way.
The lack of additional delistings says nothing of the sort - it just says that the AFC is treating its fans like shite, by refusing to tell us what they've done.

The HAVE to do the delistings, just to satisfy the AFL's mandatory minimum requirements.

The only way we can take him in the RD is if we upgrade 2 rookies. Not sure how your logic works here, given that they haven't announced any rookie upgrades yet...

Considering I said two rookie upgrades, it does work. I don't think I've seen any club announce any rookie upgrades yet, so despite there not being a second list lodgment date pre-draft this year I assume there's still some kind of date for that to occur, whereas they would have to be sitting on news of a delisting that has already been processed.

Everything about Welsh screams rookie draft - no certain position at AFL level as he's too small to continue as a KPF but only has a KPF skillset, a bad combine, strong rumours about work rate/attitude issues despite being moved inside an AFL club a year early, and Adelaide isn't nearly clever enough to have schemed it all up.

AFAIK the vacancies have to be there before the draft. So if we plan on only taking him in the rookie draft, we need to upgrade Keane and Borlase beforehand, meaning there’s no senior spot for Welsh if he is bid on and we lose him. Alternatively, we plan to use a senior spot on him and if no bid comes take him with pick 64 (which would be voided in any outcome).

There's a DFA window which is open until 8th November. Presumably there's a List Lodgement at the end of it, where lists have to be finalised before the draft. This List Lodgement isn't mentioned in the AFL Draft Booklet, but as previously mentioned that booklet only covers drafting - not Free Agency - and maybe isn't quite as comprehensive as I was assuming it to be.

Nov 8th is still 5 days before the deadline for delisted player draft nominations, so there's no problem in that regard.

I'm not 100% certain whether they're looking to take Welsh in the ND or RD, though I'd say it's about 90% likely that they'll take him in the ND. I have 2 reasons for this - firstly, I don't think they'll be upgrading 2 rookies; secondly, commiting to taking him in the RD means our hands are tied if someone else selects him in the ND - we won't have any list vacancies, so no ability to match a bid.

How so ?

Everyone was fapping over Welsh at the start of the season, when some predicted a top 10 draft position .....video highlights confirmed the talent

Has he suddenly lost his talent, nah ......his highlight video's are as good as any I've seen from any draftee this year

An inconsistent 2024, I'll agree .....but I'm genuinely excited about how he'll blend into our FWD line after Tex

BTW Scott Welsh was 188 cm ....Jack Darling is the same height for all 298 games he's played to date ....and they said Darling had no position at AFL level in his Draft year as well .....so there's certainly a role for Tyler
