Eight list changes, which is a LOT.

We take someone in the midseason draft.

We take a pick in the top six - best available mid.

We trade our future first into this year and get Petty. We sign Heyward as a FA. We look for a depth delisted player.

We use the Melbourne 2nd and our third on points for Welsh.

We take two additional kids later.

Honestly, I'd probably listen to WCE if they wanted to talk Curtin again, but I assume he'll have lost value by then.

Our players 24yrs and older:

Dawson is the only one who can still be elite (Sorry Tex, last year was the swansong)

Butts and Keane and (if I squint enough) Fogarty are the only others I can see playing in a side good enough to challenge for a prelim.

Our players under 24 (who have played a game)

Ned, Berry, Harry and Parnell are the only ones I never want to see play for us agan. I think Cook and Nank showed some good things last night.

Still cannot believe Chayce Jones has played 80 AFL games.... Struth.

Yep, played Under 18s together for SA in 2017. Fog then taken at Pick 12 that year (fell to pick 12 due largely to a poor National Champs). Petty, who was SA’s MVP at the Championships, was a major bargain for the Dees at Pick 37.

Dees also picked up Fritsch at Pick 31, who was considered a complete bolter at the time. What an amazing set of picks in the 30s.
Pick 31 was traded to them for Jack Watts 🤣

We probably should be making our 2025 team look like this:

B: Michalanney, Murray, Worrell
HB: Hinge, Keane, Curtin
C: Dowling, Dawson, Nankervis
HF: Rachele, Fogarty, Rankine
F: Hayward, Thilthorpe, ? (assuming Walker retires)
R: ROB, Crouch, Soligo
I/C: Milera, Pedlar, Jones (maybe Edwards), FRP mid
Sub: Keays (interchangeable with Peds depending on form, Cook also competing for a spot with these two)

In this ideal world, we move on Laird, but we unfortunately don’t live in an ideal world, so they’ll make a spot for him somewhere. I doubt we try to upgrade on ROB next year, despite his horrendous marking efforts this year

Any half-decent OOC third talls that could fit in the ? spot? The only one that comes to mind for me is Reef McInnes. Of course you could play Welsh R1 if he’s ready, too

Edit: only put in Hayward as a recruit as I reckon he’s the most realistic
? = Welsh

If we finish bottom 5, then i would be ok with trying to bundle up our st with our f1 to get the very best mid available in the draft

If our list management team have any idea we should be doing something like this.

Welsh- FS
Michalanney Jr - FS
2024 1st - Best Mid available
2025 1st and 2024 2nd - Available for trade for a really good player.

They should also put offers to all of the following free agents, not saying they are all stars but they are a free hit and are better than what we currently have.

FA
Jarrod Berry - Bris
Hugh McCluggage - Bris
Andrew McGrath - Ess
Jake Kolodjashnij - Gee
Ben Ainsworth - GC
Darcy Macpherson - GC
Isaac Cumming - GWS
Harry Perryman - GWS
Blake Hardwick - Haw
Harry Morrison - Haw
Conor Nash - Haw
Cam Zurhaar - NM
Ollie Florent - Syd
Will Hayward - Syd
Tim English - WB

Again we may only land 1 or 2 of them but they are a free hit that doesn't cost us anything except cap space and all would be an improvement what we currently have.

Wouldn’t be dead set on trading the 2025 1st if the right player doesn’t come up. I’m not sure teams wouldn’t be dead set on our 2024 1st instead, anyway (ie Rankine)

I agree but I think we have to hold firm and tell clubs it has to be the 2025 1st.

We have to use our 2024 1st to draft a mid.

Nothing suggesting Michalanney junior is worth drafting.

I also think we need a mid (this year’s draft’s top end is flush with them), but in that case I’d just hold both picks and focus on FAs this off-season. Very rare that bottom 10 teams are able to trade future picks for players, IIRC (opposing clubs want the certainty of a good pick)

Lots of good OOC players in 2025 to use that first on, anyway

I think we make the pick available for trade, but it has to be the right deal for us otherwise I agree hold the pick

I doubt we can bring in any mature aged midfielder witht our 1st pick that projects as high as the top end midfielders in this draft which is laden at the top end.
Yeah the potential of the players in that top bracket is tough to pass on

That’s the way I’d hope we go, then hope the club capitalises on that potential
