Players out of contract this year

Smith, Burgess, Himmelberg, Bond, Borlase, Gollant, McHenry, Parnell, Sloane, Berry, Walker and Hamill.

Smith probably hits his trigger.
Can’t see us getting rid of Bond after debuting him.
Berry has done enough to get another contract and I can’t see us not giving one to Walker.

Sloane already gone, get rid of Hamill, Parnell, Gollant and McHenry. Himmelberg probably leaves. I think we only need to keep one of Borlase and Burgess. That means we have six remaining spots. Welsh and our first pick takes another. The idea that we can’t invest one of those other four spots to a young developing ruck is silly.

If we end up with 4 vacancies at the draft, I wholeheartedly agree.

Burgess has been a real disappointment
Not sure what people were expecting. He was a complete dud at AFL level at the Suns too.

I'd rather keep Gollant if we have to choose one.

Burgess has been a real disappointment
In the 7 matches played at AFL for us he has kicked 2, 1, 1 and 3. With none in his other 3 games. Hes als0 played as back up ruck.

In the 6 matches played at SANFL he has kicked 3, 4, 3, 1, 3, 1

Hes been fine as a back up. Now Thilthorpe and Himmelberg are fit hes depth. but not bad depth

I think that's fair.

Up to Adelaide now to find A grade midfield talent given our poor year and access to another top pick.

But the analysis also doesn't consider our other youth who in volume will overpower what Port have drafted given the two clubs performance over the past 5 years and Port trading away their picks.

My under 26 analysis

Port

JHF, Butters, Rozee, Georgiadis, Farrell, Drew, Burgoyne, Evans, Bergman, Mead, Sinn, Jones, Marshall, Lord, BZT, Williams

Crows

Rachele, Soligo, Michalanney, Rankine, Thilthorpe, Fogarty, Worrell, Dowling, Pedlar, Sholl, Taylor, Murray, Butts, Keane, Berry, Curtin, Ryan, Edwards, Cook, Hamill, Nankervis

Crows list bats way deeper in talent levels and quantity. The challenge for the Crows is to add A grade talent at the top end especially in the midfield to drive that advantage home, not just compared to Port, but in terms of our long term top 4 ambitions.
I'd say the Adelaide list is better for forards & defenders. Port's is considerably better for midfielders.

Himmelberg is the depth, he is the depth's depth. He has been largely uncompetitive in his games and kicks junk time goals when the game is over. The support he provides in the ruck is not worth the impact on forward line which is why we tried Borlase in that role

Wasn't EH injured when we tried Borlase in the forward line......

I'm hoping we never see Borlase in our forward line ever again.

Yes, but Himmelberg is probably going to GWS as a FA, so we shouldn't be banking on him providing that depth in 2025.

Burgess was so "fine as a back up" that we chose to play Borlase ahead of him, while Berg/Walker/TT were all unavailable due to injury.

Borlase is a decent enough defender, but he's bloody awful as a forward, and yet he was still better than Burgess.

Borlase IS NOT a better forward than Burgess...Fact

Burgess as a defender who knows given he hasn't played a lot there for the Suns and never for us even though he's always been touted as a swingman.

Borlase is not a better forward than Burgess in any time

He's bloody awful as a forward... yet he still performed better in the forward line than Burgess, when given the opportunity to do so earlier this season.

Let us pray that we never see either Borlase or Burgess inhabiting our forward line ever again.

Thankfully we now have Walker, Berg & TT all back from injury, so we shouldn't have to face this nightmare scenario again until at least 2025.

It’s only half a goal a game behind Tex this year. So not awful for depth, plus he does pinch hit ruck if required. Don’t think our forward line has been a particularly performance friendly place this year.

Why do ppl think just because someone's out of the side it's a guarantee they'll be delisted. Sholl was a regular, then he was on the outer for almost a whole season and then was re signed. Crouch similar. Hamill similar.

People also reckon Gollant will be delisted but how long did it take fog to come good? He's just hit some good form in the twos now as well. Won't be surprised if he gets another 2 years.

By that logic we’d never delist anyone.

Fog and Sholl showed attributes in their early careers that suggested they had potential to be high level performers and were worth persisting with.

What has Gollant shown?

Himmelberg has kicked 1 more goal than Burgess this year from the same number of games

Not sure there's as much difference as people make it seem
I think Himmelberg has been more useful in terms of making a contest for kicks down the line.
That would actually be a useful stat for a key forward for CD to track.

Bullshit!!!

You don't win 2 VFL Frosty Miller Medals in successive years in a strong competition like the VFL with AFL listed players as your opposition most weeks if you're awful...far from it. He;s kicked goals in 4 of his 7 AFL games this year including a bag of 3 against the Hawks and 2 against the Dockers. Whether you want to believe it or not he's good depth.

Burgess showed a bit of promise at the start of the year, but also had 3 of the statistically worst misses of the season against Geelong and Fremantle.

he seemed to resolve that disparity by just avoiding the ball altogether (except for one half vs Hawthorn)
