Agree, my concerns are Sid’s poise and delivery by hand and foot once he’s won the ball, can be average at times. In Austin we trust, let’s hope we have some luck pick 3 , as it’s has not been an auspicious position for the club in the past.
We’ve just got to get it right, no room for failures.
Getting the pill is the hard part his speed and evasiveness to get space sets him apart he’s a gun after that can be taught and trained
Eg danger

Absolutely. Everyone knows SOS will bid, from our supporters, Saints supporters, media etc. People knew this months ago. He doesn’t have much of a poker face when it comes to list management. 😂
Went to the same school extremely short sighted if he bids just cause it’s Carlton I’d say move forward mate get on with making stkilda great again lol 66
Brother Crispin would turn in his grave
At the spitefullness 😉

I don't think that's it. We have a big problem:

We REALLY struggle to move the ball well. We're often stagnant and play down the line, especially from a kick in - we can be good, but generally we are atrocious.

We need the kid who can be a conduit best, in that they simply make play happen. I think this is Draper and Smith - it's their 1 wood, so to speak.
FOS is a bit more impact/dynamic from my limited vision, but you get both from Draper and his defensive game is exceptional as well as his leadership. Watch him make a pass and then direct a teammate as to what's happening further upfield. Great game awareness. He just ticks more boxes for mine. And his kicking skills seem pretty decent (much better than mine anyway!).
That's a game plan issue rather than personnel

At the end of the day pick 3 or 10 it doesn’t matter you just need to look
Past all The hype and pick what your club needs and it’s plain to see .
Pick 3 affords you the luxury of nailing that need ,not best available .
The only way I would deviate and make an exception is for a talent like Lalor who could be anything
If we win the flag next year who cares who we got as long as they contributed and pick 3 will contribute

I would argue that at pick 3 it is the opposite. You have a chance of getting a generational talent so pick who you think will be the best player over a 15 year career.

FIRST PICK:
Pick 3

Having made a bold move to trade up to pick three, Carlton faces a tough decision as to how to bolster its midfield stocks. A point of difference seems to be in favour, and given the Blues are a strong contested unit, perhaps a prospect with speed and slick ball movement is in the offing.

Enter Sid Draper, South Australia’s top talent and an electric on-ball asset. The South Adelaide product, who played senior footy with former Carlton champion Bryce Gibbs last year, offers exactly the kind of line-breaking pace the Blues need. He is also ready to go, which fits the club’s premiership window.

We are here for premierships and whilst I agree with what your saying broadly
I also see the current need and we are as ripe as we’ll ever be
Get the players we need now and pick 3 will be a serious player and the luxury for us is we get who we want
Nth won’t budge they’ll take their need player which is a smart list choice
We need the players who will help us to the next flag now cause in 2-3 yrs well be in rebuild mode again

IMO Noah Mraz. But not sure he makes it to pick 38.
Mraz or O'Farrell for me if they are around. The consensus seems to be to rate Mraz higher but if they were both around I'd go O'Farrell, but without great confidence that he will turn out better. They both have that extra height over say Dennis or Barrat and I think we could do with a defender with that bit extra height, we have only Young at this stage unless we repurpose someone (Lemmey or McMahon if we grab him, both of whom I prefer as forwards, or McKay and do away with the twin towers forward) or re-draft Sam Durdin.

Responses from Heraldsun Q&A chat that might be relevant to us:

Q: Any word on who Carlton are interested in with pick 38 if they don't have to use it on a Campo bid?
A: Really depends who is left when you get to that range in the draft but word is they're looking at rebounding half-backs and potentially a key defender. The mail is that the Saints could be every chance to bid on Ben Camporeale before Carlton gets to that second selection, though.

Q: Who do you personally think Carlton will select with their number 3 pick?
A: I've still got Finn O'Sullivan as the favourite, but I'm definitely not ruling out Sid Draper.

Q: Could we see Carlton slide back at all if whoever they're targetting is taken before Pick 3?
A: Don't think that will happen. Any of Finn O'Sullivan, Sid Draper or Jagga Smith would suit the Blues nicely and at least one of them will be available

Q: Which top midfielder is the fastest? Carlton needs speed in their midfield; will they target that player?
A: Expect the Blues to grab one of Finn O'Sullivan, Sid Draper or Jagga Smith with their first pick. All three are quite explosive and light on their feet, which is what Carlton needs, as you say.

I was just lurking but had to login especially to show appreciation for this post. There is great information in this.
Thanks!

In 2-3 years we will be in rebuild mode!!! Look at the Cats and Pies in recent times... if we can push our list for as long as they have our window is 6 years minimum

I think in Dylan's latest offering he makes a good point for why he would have take FOS ahead of Draper (albeit he was answering a question about who Tigers should go for at pick 2 if they got it). The comment is at the 40:30 mark

Absolutely!
You pick on need with pick 3 (unless you are an expansion club with a wealth of picks).
Best available, which in my opinion will also be a need anyway.

Edit. I meant you pick best available with pick 3

If Draper went at 2 you’d be really happy with O’Sullivan
If O’Sullivan went at 2 you’d be really happy with Draper

If you agree with the above, no point arguing with yourself about who you prefer. Either is great.

Geez I’d really wouldn’t mind the chance of grabbing a couple of talls in this draft this year around where we currently are 38, would love another pick close to before or after…

There’s some promising tall prospects that cover a variety of positions, most duel roles that posses some exciting and different football/athletic combinations, traits and strengths…

Thomas Sims 199cm Fwd/Ruck
Kayle Gerryen 199cm Ruck/Fwd
Gabriel Stumpf 199cm Fwd/Ruck
Floyd Burmeister 199cm Fwd/Ruck
Charlie Nicholls 197cm Fwd/Def
Harry O’Farrell 197cm Def/Fwd
Noah Mraz 198cm Def/Ruck
Clancy Dennis 196cm Defender

There are gems at #38

Plenty of decent rebounding types

I like Loch Mactaggart, Lennox Hofmann, Oliver Warburton
If we go for a rebounder I want the best kick with decent pace. McTaggart (184cm) and the St Kilda NGA prospect Hoffman (190cm) have the raw pace but Warburton has both pace and disposal at a high level, although as a National Combine invitee might have more suitors than the other 2 who were a state combines. But I wouldn't be using pick 38 on any of them if a decent KPD option was still around.
Of all of those likely to be around at Pick 38 (or thereabouts if we trade out 38 and back in somewhere around that to avoid using 38 on Ben C) I'd only look at Harrison Oliver
Beyond that, if we manage to hold onto a later pick?
Bo Allan and Toby Travaglia will be gone, as will Harrison Oliver in all probability, whilst Jayden Nguyen is Essendon NGA, Rome Burgoyne PA F/S, and Luke Quaynor Collingwood NGA.
Jaxon Artemis 181cm (WA) ticks the boxes and should be available late, as should Harry Charleson 183cm (Vic C) not as quick but great endurance, ditto the taller Angus Clarke 189cm (SA) and the smaller Mitchell Kirkwood-Scott 178cm (Vic M), but is size against the smaller ones?
Eoin McEvoy and David Colbert are 2 Irishmen with blistering pace and impressive early footskills but given we have our Irishmen already I don't expect we look there.
If Harrison Oliver fell to our later pick you'd grab him in an instant but I doubt he will. The pick of those a real chance to be around at one of our later picks is Warburton IMHO, whilst Clarke though less pacy has the height, intercept marking ability, endurance and footskills to present a very attractive option if we don't want raw pace.
As a mature-age option Riley Bice combines good ball use, endurance and agility and has proven himself against men at the next-best level being picked in the VFL team of the year and can play wing as well as defence and I wouldn't say no to him with a late pick if we had one.
If the above are gone I'd look at Artemis, Charleston and Kirkwood-Scott in that order.
