I remember a game in 1997 at Princes Park vs the Western Bulldogs.

Caught the overnight Port bus, went to the Vic markets etc etc.
Went with my mother and one of her sisters (that many around the club know).

Blown away in the first quarter.
Won the game.
Will never forget that game, it was played with real Port Adelaide spirit.

Blows my mind to think that none of yesterday's side were even born then.

I saw the same thing when watching that last quarter yesterday.
I nearly bloody cried, I thought I'd never see that spirit again.

Play to the Creed and leave your best on the park and you will have our respect, whatever happens.
Well played yesterday.

I was literally thinking of that game watching the highlights to this game. It's the Ikon Park stand in the background and the spirited effort.

Not looking forward to the heat and I hope all the girls are okay on Saturday.

But all I’ll say is that I hope the heat gets blamed for North losing their first game of the year

It probably boils down to how much of the game we will be able to sustain our high-intensity full-pressure game style.

Against Richmond we played it in bursts, but that was enough. Against Hoks it was last quarter, plus the first third of the second quarter, so we had control for about 1/3 of the game, they had control for the other 2/3, but it was enough. It seems that when we get that game going, it’s very hard for the other side to counter.

North will almost certainly play better under our maximum pressure than the other two. On the other hand, how much in the past couple of seasons have North actually played under that level of pressure? And how did they go?

If they can keep us under control for one and a half quarters or more, we’re probably gonna struggle to score enough during the time that we get our game going. On the other hand, if we can keep it going full tilt for two quarters or more, North could struggle to score enough during the part of the game that we can’t sustain full pressure.

So can we keep the pedal to the metal for half the game or more? It’s incredibly difficult to every one of the 16 players on the field at any one time to sustain that level of intensity and energy for longer periods. Especially against a side like North who may cope with it better than what we’ve seen so far. Or maybe they won’t - maybe they’ve won so many of their games so easily, they don’t deal with it better when an opponent is right up in their face and start to rush things a bit. Or maybe our girls will be so drained by that amazing last quarter that they won’t be able to find the energy they need. But we can be sure that whatever happens, they will absolutely give it everything they’ve got and leave nothing out there.

We weren’t supposed to beat Richmond when every singe commentator and media person described that match as “Richmond vs Port Adelaide” despite the fact that we were the home and higher ranked team.

We weren’t supposed to beat the Hollywood Hoks when we were paying a ridiculous $5.20.
