The perfect storm ofLet’s analyse the week of results:
- Hawks beat North as expected but that was the bad result for us.
- Cats beat Eagles as expected but that was the bad result for us. They also didn’t go on with the game in the second half and get their percentage above Port meaning that Port don’t have to win to hold 2nd spot and a home final. Thus taking away some of their hunger against Freo.
- Gold Coast beat Tigers as expected but that was the bad result for us. Meant that Saints could afford to win and not drop a spot in the draft order.
- Brisbane beat Essendon as expected but that was the bad result for us. Meant even if we had won we would have had an interstate trip.
- Bulldogs beat GWS and that was a bad result for us. Meant Port didn’t need to win to hold 2nd spot. GWS also had 3 late outs including two small forwards in a game that was played in blustery conditions.
- We lose obviously a bad result. But we lose in Carlton fashion to add to the sting.
- Freo will beat Port as they now have more to play for given the results and they’ll take 8th spot after having knocked off less top 8 teams for the year than us. Port also lose Dixon before the game to take away a key target.
A lot of that was expected but still it’s the absolute perfect storm of bad results for us. It’s such a Carlton thing to happen that you actually sit back and laugh.
