O’Keefe does seem like a more natural partner to TDK.
He does look very promising but at 19, I would rather they give him more time to build himself up in the reserves.

He is obviously in our long-term plans.

What does Ollie offer at the moment that Binns can't? His inability to impact a contest is a liability.

Not sure if he's overworked at present, he looks similar to just before his injury last year. Might have gone to hard over the preseason and is overloaded. With his build, if he's playing fatigued he lacks the strength to impact the contest. He was running over the ground towards the backend of last year, perhaps he needs to reduce loads for a few weeks. Not uncommon for a second year player.

Doing well to get into position to impact defensively, then utterly losing most 1v1s to the team's detriment. 4 or 5 broken tackles today that just aren't up to AFL standard.

If Binns can come in and impact better defensively, then it's a sensible change. Perhaps Cottrell spends more time on the wing. But today Hollands was clearly our worst player (in that he offered barely anything offensively and was a liability in the contest) and hasn't really fired a shot all year.
While Ollie is definitely struggling against bigger bodies, Binns would be a greater liability to impact a contest

Binns will have another 20 odd today, people will call for his inclusion but the difference in the two levels is massive and not really comparable

They’ll have no Taylor or Coniglio, with Briggs and Kelly under massive injury clouds. Their injury list will look not much different to our after yesterday. Still reckon it will be a cracking contest

Not all this week but it’s time for us to give some other players a try and see what they can do

Names like Wilson Cincotta Cowan Moir Binns maybe O’Keefe need to be tried/given an opportunity over the next month or so. The experience alone is vital
Isn’t Cincotta injured, I read it somewhere?

Can’t see many unforced changes due to our injury list. The only ones who might be fit to return from injuries are Marchbank and Cincotta. Club hasn’t told us anything about Cincotta but reliable posters here are suggesting some sort of ailment keeping him out of the VFL and I’ll back that in.

Saad will need replacing. Preferably Cincotta plays but if not will have to be Cowan or a debut for Wilson.

McGovern will need replacing. Will need to be one of Marchbank or Young given GWS’s tall forwards.

Once the forced changes are dealt with in light of the injury list, I’m not sure we’ve got many ready to go types in the VFL. We’d have to roll the dice on guys without any exposed form at AFL level - Binns, Wilson, Moir.

A few very lucky players from last night will survive by necessity

Feel better that Freo also just beaten by Port at AO, the same Port that decimated Bummers at AO the week before.

The Crows form was pretty respectable for 0-4. Small loss to Suns away, pushing Dees and Cats at AO. Freo game at Optus their worst, but Freo only got away in the end. Let’s face it, they just “match up” well against us and we were just too banged up at the end.

We’re a huge chance in this, nice to see our opponents also have major injury issues.

Can't see it being anymore than forced changes

The names being thrown up to come in on the back of 1 VFL game is strange, but always consistent on this forum

If Saad and Gov are out, suspect Marchbank will be one of the ins, and perhaps either Cincotta or Cowan, whoever is fit of the 2

At this stage, none of Wilson, Moir or any other VFL level player will get a call up and more likely that someone returning from injury is a better show of selection

We are in win mode, not let's find out if player X is capable at AFL level

How can you possibly claim that with any confidence.

We have no idea how Binns will transition to AFL level. What we do know is he is becoming too good for VFL level whilst Ollie has been struggling in the seniors for 5 weeks now. They play the exact same role and have similar styles. That should be enough for change, it certainly has been at every level I have played.

It wouldn’t just be throwing a game at a kid for the sake of it. It is the one position on the ground where we have pressure from underneath.

Well clearly the coaching staff have had a similar view, to this point

Just because 2 players, play a similar position, doesn't mean they are both at the level

The biggest consideration from the coaches & MC for Binn’s to be a chance to replace Ollie would certainly not be related to possession count.

They will assess his understanding of the role and his ability to gut run back to support our defenders at times and of course his ability to stick a tackle.

I believe with our current injuries they will trust Ollie once again so we don’t have too many changes to the team all at once.

Binns.. Carroll.. Hollands.. All way too small to compete at the highest level.

Pick one… but can’t carry all three of them.

Ollie isn’t good enough at AFL level right now. Binns is too good for VFL level right now.

It is not a Dow situation where there is no clear in for him. IMO it’s a pretty obvious like for like change.

I have no idea if Binns will step up. NO ONE does until he plays. The FACT is that he has earned a run at it and the player keeping him out (similar position) is struggling at the moment

Good sides give form players a go when there is an opportunity
