O’Keefe does seem like a more natural partner to TDK.
He does look very promising but at 19, I would rather they give him more time to build himself up in the reserves.

He is obviously in our long-term plans.

One of Harry or Charlie will kick 6 next week
Hope you’re right Juice but I think your post sums up our forward line at the moment - Harry or Charlie or bust. Those two are excellent but we simply do not have any other reliable goal kicking threats. Our current crop of fit small forwards don’t kick goals. We don’t have a fit medium forward with Martin and JSOS out. The forward line is a worry for mine.

How can you possibly claim that with any confidence.

We have no idea how Binns will transition to AFL level. What we do know is he is becoming too good for VFL level whilst Ollie has been struggling in the seniors for 5 weeks now. They play the exact same role and have similar styles. That should be enough for change, it certainly has been at every level I have played.

It wouldn’t just be throwing a game at a kid for the sake of it. It is the one position on the ground where we have pressure from underneath.
Need to reward consistent performance and binns deserves his chance

Swapping Ollie for Binns is hardly going to make a difference...

We lost defensive structure big time yesterday. Weiters had a mare, let Walker get clear of him too many times. Rankine also easily found a lot of space and so did Keays...

They took 18 marks i50 and that stat doesn't tell you the most damning thing about it... the positions they were taking them.

Glad Voss called it out, but this team not having that defensive cohesion is a worrying sign. That must be the big focus going into this one.

Saad + Gov out will really hurt. Cincotta and Marchbank might not be good to go either. Going to be a real test, our leaders need to step up.

And every opposition defensive coach knows it as well….. take away our strengths and it becomes labour intensive to put teams away !!

Ditto small forwards…..

Injuries forcing us to play a hand that is not ideal atm

Right now we've got four undersized small fowards on the list who all do the same thing. At most I think you can play one of these types.

Collingwood have a stack of smaller fowards but they are all bigger than ours and all offer something different.

Plus their mids actually kick the ball to them. Our smalls just stand around and watch Charlie & Harry. Motlop is the only one who knows how to crumb.

100 percent. Look how many times Charlie get doubled or tripled teamed when Harry gets up the ground. Opposition teams know where the balls heading.

Any broken tackle is bad enough at AFL level. Broken tackles in the open kill you.

Hollands had 4 or 5 efforts where he was brushed off with contempt, at least 3 of which directly lead to goals. His inability to half contests squandered a couple of other opportunities.

Hollands is not winning much of the ball and isn't doing much with it when he is. While he gets to the right positions defensively, losing the 1v1 is doing more harm than good.

If Binns can compete physically, it's becoming an exceedingly obvious choice. Cottrell the other option once we start getting half forwards back from injury.

Our problem is even if our mids & wingers do attempt to lower their eyes at times our small forwards just don’t hurt the opposition enough by hitting the scoreboard consistently.

There you go... what makes you think he'll be any better?

Keep an eye on how physical Binns is today... if he warrants selection, he will earn it.

Few players are as bad in that regard as Ollie is. A far cry from his late 2023 form. My read is he probably hasn't missed a session all preseason and he's playing tired. Working hard to get to the contest but when he gets there he's exhausted and struggling to impact.

It was similar mid 2023 prior to his injury, and he came back a far better player. He's struggling and not sure we're doing him or the team any favours by continuing to play him, especially given our block of upcoming games.

Praying that Motlop and Cunners are good to go
Yes, I’m also hoping we have at least one small ready to come back.
Not sure how close mots and cuners are to being available?

Your would think cez(even with a minor tight hammy) will at least miss a couple.

I’d bring in cinc if he’s good to go this week and I’d rather marchy come back via the twos, but we probably forced now to bring him straight in.

We are desperately missing Martin/cuners/mots in the forward half. And where also missing them is a mid rotation at times as well imo

When we had our hot streak last year, we had these players(most of them) rotating through the midfield which was giving us that better balance and pace around the ball.

i dont understand the call to drop Pitt. He nullified O'Brien and was also quick enough to win clearances himself.
A couple of iffy frees against but O'brien got away with dropping the ball, fend off's all game.

If Briggs plays with a dodgy shoulder I would like to see Pitt really test him out physically and try to expose him.

Pitt had a fairly good game.

But he played 50% TOG.

TDK also isn’t a forward and gets in the way of Charles and Harrison.

To be honest - I’m fine with either Pitt or TDK playing. Just not both.
