O’Keefe does seem like a more natural partner to TDK.
He does look very promising but at 19, I would rather they give him more time to build himself up in the reserves.

He is obviously in our long-term plans.

i dont understand the call to drop Pitt. He nullified O'Brien and was also quick enough to win clearances himself.
A couple of iffy frees against but O'brien got away with dropping the ball, fend off's all game.

Pittonet's inclusion was a disaster. I would be shocked if we play TDK and Pittonet in the same side again this year.

On his game.. Attended 41 ruck contests, only hit 4 to advantage. Zero marks. Gave away 4 frees. Only 50% time on ground. Did not positively impact the game in any meaningful way.

And more importanty what he does to our team.. Makes TDK play out of position for far too long which hurts our forward structure and also reduces TDK's positive impact around the ground. We end up with 1 less runner in the team, less leg speed, more likely to get ran over in Q4. He clogs up the bench impacting our rotations given he always has very low time on ground. And also hurts McKay's game who seems to be thriving from a few brief stints in the middle.

Never. Again.

We have plenty opportunities to address our small fwds over the years but haven't Eddie was meant to be the schoolmaster but he doesn't seemed to helped much and once he retired he left -- this week the same problem will be exposed and we will go for long periods without scoring creating heaps of fwd contests and stoppages for no return.. As long we keep games in an arm wrestle with expected scores 60-80's we are a chance .This makes average sides look better than they are even though we control the game but win within 3-4 goals. We haven't got the field kickers to shoots the lights out all day This is why we play a steady contest game - problem is for some reason we a bit fumbly around said contest and we can't get our handball game going.
Voss said in his presser our defence was no good all day.. Obviously they also are of the belief we need to keep game in a wrestle for longer periods of time .

Expect another wrestle this week hopefully we get team buy in and bring home the chocolates,Doing it without some of our better uses by foot makes it hard -- One must remember this game style will have a high attrition rate and has a shelf life for the playing group if effort doesn't bring reward ..

A couple of class uses by foot on the wings or flanks and a genuine third goal kicking fwd(tall or small) would enable change to our style dynamic . For me we are working with the limitations of group we have and are trying to build it keeping an age profile for now and future but you know we a chance every week just like this week against GWS.

We want to be a top 4 side and if we are, even with injuries we beat a team that is 0-4. We didn't play well and there was no excuse.

Midfield was blitzed for lack of run. The ran the ball though the middle of the ground and from stoppages and we couldn't lay a hand on them. It's both tactical and lack of leg speed in the team. Teams have been running the ball away from stoppages for weeks but we have been winning, this time it's more noticable.

Our defence, that was the worst performance I have seen in many years. The buck stops with Our coaching group and Weitering who was terrible and is supposed to be the onfield leader out there. You have two forwards who are playing well and the ball coming in not under pressure, you play defensively one on one. Not off your man. Weitering not reading the situation and not offering instruction is one of the biggest reason we lost. Quite simple blind freddy could have read that situation and that is where you go from playing in front and lose on the man to playing back shoulder and making it a defensive contest. Dumb football from those who should have known better. I thought if the backline at read the game a bit better and played a bit tighter then we would have won this. The problem here wasn't our players being not good enough, it was poor decision making and instruction. When Saad went down we had noone to replace him. Kennedy again in defence. If we see that again we may as well put the que in the rack and go home.

The forwards didn't perform in this one. A lot of missed goal, yes some were from positions where accuracy would not be expected so our ability to get the ball in good positions wasn't particularly great. Our forward line looks particularly toothless. Lacking speed and aerial threats outside of the two big guys is an issue. DeKoning is not a forward and never will be. Bringing in Pittonet did nothing but slow us down. Some misses were amazingly bad though. Injuries impacting here.

I thought the effort was there but the decision making all around the ground was terrible.

WOW

Pittonet might not be a forced change in the traditional sense… but I’ll be forcing my foot up the clubs arse if he isn’t omitted.

Someone needs to send the club a video of how geelongs twin towers operate... don't think I have ever seen them competing at the same ball
Agree Kerna and we should also send a video of O Henry and Stengle as third tall or small players who are genuine goal kicking threats. We don’t have one mid sized forward without Martin. We don’t have one small forward with the goal kicking ability of a Stengle. Hopefully Motlop can get there one day. The forward line is a real worry.

Pitt had a fairly good game.

But he played 50% TOG.

TDK also isn’t a forward and gets in the way of Charles and Harrison.

To be honest - I’m fine with either Pitt or TDK playing. Just not both.

Yeah same for me, I’m not fussed on whether it’s Pitto or TDK, I prefer Tom for his work around the ground but Pitto is better at the contest.

We just can’t go in with both again. We are already a slow side and we are getting torched for speed and agility around the ground.

Fog has a broken wrist... he's not coming in
Yup, forgot about that in the midst of all the other injuries. Hopefully we have better news on Cincotta, Motlop and Cuningham.
In: Wilson, Young, Moir
Out: Saad, McGovern, Durdin
You think Moir is ready? I'm not seeing it in terms of aerobic endurance.
Those who think Marchy won’t be rushed back are seriously deluded. They rate him so highly that he is always rushed back! Not ideal, of course, but that’s been the reality of his career. Think Lions final last year, one of our best after again being rushed back.

Class act, he’s playing if he gets up
Endurance base isn't in question with Marchbank, and he was coming back from illness-related issues before being concussed. They've given him the extra week, he's ready to go.

I have no idea if Binns will step up. NO ONE does until he plays. The FACT is that he has earned a run at it and the player keeping him out (similar position) is struggling at the moment

Good sides give form players a go when there is an opportunity
We did see him in a pre-season game, so we do have some idea. Will get knocked to the ground a lot, and not sure how his pace holds up after building his body up to deal with it.

This is why I was against drafting him at all: his kicking, strength and speed all need so much work. Simmo was probably the template for why we pulled the trigger, but Simmo had a lot more about him athletically when coming in.
Why would you drop Durdin? Especially given the games of Owies and Fantasia?
Because he disappeared from the game a lot more in terms of pressure and presenting. Owies wasn't pressuring any better in midfield, but he was doing work at the fall of the ball in the F50.

If we inject some speed and skill so things open up, Owies and Fantasia stand to make more of the opportunities.

Swapping Ollie for Binns is hardly going to make a difference...

We lost defensive structure big time yesterday. Weiters had a mare, let Walker get clear of him too many times. Rankine also easily found a lot of space and so did Keays...

They took 18 marks i50 and that stat doesn't tell you the most damning thing about it... the positions they were taking them.

Glad Voss called it out, but this team not having that defensive cohesion is a worrying sign. That must be the big focus going into this one.

Saad + Gov out will really hurt. Cincotta and Marchbank might not be good to go either. Going to be a real test, our leaders need to step up.

Agree but Binns might bring something different gotta find out.

The problem wasn’t Pitto personally, it was how unbalanced (read: slow) we were through the midfield.

OUT: Saad (inj), McGovern (inj), C.Durdin, Pittonet
IN: Cowan/Cincotta, Marchbank, Motlop/Cuningham, Wilson

SUB: Kennedy

Kennedy did a job but we are now so slow - whether by foot or by thought - on every line and need fresh legs. Wilson injects some overlap run while letting Acres able to drift inside more to provide some athletic impact alongside Crips and Carroll.

Pittonet isn't right, and added nothing in addition to what he took away from TDK and our newer stoppage tactics, while effectively forcing too much running work onto the group.

EDIT: forgot Fogarty got injured
Wilson was concussed in the 2nd quarter of the VFL, so that's another off my list.

OUT: Saad (inj), McGovern (inj), C.Durdin, Pittonet
IN: Cowan/Cincotta, Marchbank, Motlop, Cuningham

SUB: Kennedy

Binns an outside chance if one of Motlop and Cuningham aren't right to go and if it's both Durdin stays in.

Binns I like but he’s even smaller than Ollie.

Away from home
No Taylor, No Cognilio & potentially No Briggs

Yeah and they haven’t been flogging sides either, not really too much more impressive than we have been in their wins.

Beat a pies side not really up for it, north, eagles, suns (in a fairly open game) and saints by a point, now they have a few out.

It will be close.

More about team balance, he only had 50% game time and one less runner hurt us.

Funny enough I like our chances more when we are the hunter…..

After watching the Reserves I'd go with

B: Boyd Young Kemp
HB: Williams Weitering Newman
C: Acres Cripps O.Hollands
HF: Elijah McKay Cottrell
F: Owies Curnow Kennedy
Foll: TDK Hewett Walsh
Int: Cowan Durdin Cerra Binns (Fantasia)

We don't have much left. I am hoping Cincotta or Motlop may be available
Cerra back after a one week hammy is very optimistic
