If he was an unrestricted free agent and therefore cost nothing other than salary you might look at him (I wouldn't be that keen that said) but as a RFA he's not coming cheap so I'm a definite pass at that point.

Draper has had limited AFL Footy experience .....I watched him spend the whole PS doing the Cliff Young Shuffle around Tullamarine

This extended well into the season .....he was SO under-done

His issue was poor hands ....however his marking has improved dramatically this year, he just didn't have AFL required fitness ....don't judge him on 2024

73 AFL games 7 years on an AFL list?

Seems like you know earlier with mids. Even at 18 you get a pretty good gauge. Not perfect but better than with other player types

Whereas with talls it takes a bit longer to work out who the good ones are going to be
The anti-cluster rules in U18, clearly can give a false impression of KPF's

It’s already huge for me because of the obvious change in attitude from the club this year. We have for so long backed in incumbents regardless off all evidence with a dogged stubbornness, but this year we are addressing the midfield, leg speed and coaching deficiencies, which is a very pleasant change.

Actually getting the targets would be the cherry on top, but we can’t start improving until we admit the mistakes we’ve been making, and signs are good.
Good post.
Insightful.

Kelly is operational not strategic.

It makes a lot of sense to have someone very senior and experienced to run the whole football department.

Kelly was hired to run the whole football department. That's what a Head of Football does.

Are you suggesting we've demoted him to a purely operational role?

Also we already have a Football Operations Manager, Tom Hurley, who reports to Kelly and runs admin and matchday operations

Where is this pick expected to push out to on the night?
Not that far unless the AFL intervene with compo picks at the top end, realistically Levi Ashcroft you would think brings a very early bid, Suns Academy Leo Lombard a real possibility and some possibility Essendon NGA Isaac Kako, don't think Lions Academy Sam Marshall gets a bid that early

Sloane family are very happy in SA and their best mate/family live here too. Why not see if there’s something on offer from the club you’ve given almost half your life to?
Because the best thing for his own professional development is to get out of the AFC, and out of SA, to gain experience at other AFL clubs.

Sloane has spent his entire career playing for Adelaide. Yes, he's played under a number of different coaches, but he's only experienced the AFC culture and way of doing things. He needs to broaden his horizons, learning under completely different coaches, and experiencing the cultures of other clubs.

This is not about Sloane - I'd say the same about any player who has just finished their playing career and wants to move into the coaching ranks.

Sloane was a fantastic player for the Crows, but now he needs to start planning what is best for his future - and for a player who wants to coach that means moving to another club.

Twomey doesn’t see Peatling going to the Pies
The Bulldogs have never made sense either, they have an even deeper midfield than GWS, especially with Ed Richards coming on well in a very similar role. Given how long it took the media to report on our interest, it does seem we are very close to the favourites to get him if he leaves.

I would be surprised if he stayed, GWS have known they were losing Perryman and Cumming for a while and still offered the contract they did. IF he was staying, I feel like that would've been announced last week before he started meeting with more clubs.

I still think Peatling will re-sign with GWS. They've got cap space now.
Does he get a game each week without injuries?

I think he plays more football in Adelaide and in desirable position.

I also think that playing each week in front of passionate crowds is a massive advantage over what GWS can offer. (See Izak Rankine)
