That he survived the rebuild and the game of musical chairs is good but I would have felt better about it if he wasn't there prior to Fagan.
I would have thought that Fagan trusting you to stay on as they started getting some success would suggest that he’s highly respected. Has been the line coach from the very beginning for possibly the best KPD of the last decade in Harris Andrews, so can clearly help to develop talent to an elite level.

Silvers was an "unknown" type who we got to perform a role that he'd never done before, based on him being from a Premiership club. He has been underwhelming, let's face it.

I know absolutely nothing about Davis, but he appears to be a perennial assistant coach who is now performing a role he's never done before, based on him being from a Premiership club.

If the only person we bring in for the football department in this offseason is Davis, and not someone like Balme, and while people like Dew are available, it's another underwhelming offseason. There's still time obviously.

Our football department is more important than who we bring in with future 2nd rounders.

He's a premiership assistant coach.

That does have to count for something

Could it be worse though?

I guess so

I just hold reservations about hiring someone into a "director" role that has never done that or something like that before. We're effectively promoting someone quite far up and we desperately need people with experience and confidence in their roles

I'm sure he's a decent coach and does provide valuable premiership experience.

Not sure about a person who has only ever been an assistant coach now sitting above our head coach in the hierarchy.

With that said, Nicks hardly performs like a head coach so someone else telling him what to do is probably a good thing
Having 8 years under Fagan while developing players like Harris Andrews from a low draft pick to elite seems like someone that can provide benefits to our club. I don’t care what his title is, this successful experience will be invaluable.

being at a club that won a premiership pretty much puts him above everyone else.

And Phil Smyth has done work for both clubs hasn't he?
I think so. He said he worked with Brisbane this year, almost full time in the latter half.

He said Fages is a "genius" and one of the best blokes he has ever met, and that the whole team love him.

Involved in a team that has won 100 games since 2019 and overseen an elite defense, I can’t see the downside here. We aren’t getting a newbie coach here, he has 13 years of AFL experience and has coached a senior premiership before that.
