"In other changes, Michael Godden will have a greater emphasis on player and coach development, and Matthew Wright becomes SANFL Senior Coach while continuing to work with the Club’s emerging forwards."

It sounds like we were not able to hire someone into the role of the (still departing?) Marco Bello
Seems like it.

Who knows.

Is it 2 or 3 more years ?

They’d do it for an early pick in top 8 this year or 2x 1sts

Cashing out at his max knowing he will eventually want to go home

Seems to be a port tactic , consistent with previous trades eg Wingard and Polec
Not that I give a crap about Carlton, but maybe they should look at trading 11 & 31 with Sydney for 17 & 19. Then ship 17 & F1 to Port which is 2 x 1sts, they keep 19 themselves for the draft

You have no leverage when you are contracted though.
We had no leverage with Carlton over Gibbs, because they wanted to keep him.
Carlton will have heaps of leverage if he nominates them because they want him to go.

Port realize how much they erred last year giving up their pick in this draft and are desperate to get back in.

“Over the past couple of months, we have been evaluating and exploring ways in which we can finetune our coaching structure and been searching for someone to complement the strengths of Matthew and his assistants,” Kelly said.

This line in particular makes it sounds like Davis is the only addition/change to our coaching structure

Davis will work closely with all of Adelaide’s coaches but in particular assistants Scott Burns (forwards), Nathan van Berlo (midfield) and Jack Hombsch (defence).

Interesting role. Still slightly unsure of the parameters but we will see how it works

Even if Davis ends up being a really good get, that is still a pretty bloody underwhelming coaching panel.

Godden getting promoted again? Fk me.

That's a fair deal for Houston .....if you're serious CARL, you do it .....seems straightforward

He might be a good to excellent player but that's a lot of draft capital. I think they have to accept losing their first this year, but adding a second from next year might do it.

I guess we’ll find out soon.

I think it's 3 years remaining .....and you're right about the pick options

Current coaching structure and changes:

Matthew Nicks - Senior Coach
Murray Davis - Coaching Director (New)
Scott Burns – Forwards and Senior Assistant Coach
Nathan van Berlo – Midfield Coach
Jack Hombsch – Backs Coach

Matthew Wright – Development Coach -> SANFL Senior Coach
Michael Godden – SANFL and Coach Development -> Player and Coach Development
Marco Bello – Head of Development
Chelsea Randall – Development Coach
Andrew McPherson – Development Coach

I love how the news is that the Oliver to Geelong trade is going to be the most complex trade ever made.

I can just imagine how the conversation is going.

Geelong: We want him
MFC: Ok, lets talk trade compensation
Geelong: Oh we don't want to spend anything to get him, if anything what are you giving us?
MFC: What? Ok this is a dead end. Lets park it and talk about his salary
Geelong: Oh we don't want to pay him, that's on the Red and the Blue.
MFC: So you want us to give him to you and pay his salary?
Geelong: Of course, we're Geelong. That's how this works!
AFL Media: MFC stop complaining and give Oliver to Geelong, and pay his salary while you're at it!
MFC: If we sign this deal can you at least sign a statement saying we have good culture?
Geelong: No
AFL Media: Oh hell no!
MFC: Can we at least keep the pen?
Geelong: As long as its not a clicky top. I love clicky tops!
Most complex trade ever, says AFL media. So complex it might need a little loophole to be made? Which might benefit the Cats?

Would never happen.

A 2nd next year for CARL could be in the 40's

These Clubs are arrogant (buyers) .....CARL didn't even want to offer up #13 this year initially

Don't window-shop, if you left your money home

Agree with Jeffcrowe ....CARL need to trade #13 up to get inside the top 10 (8 min) .....or two firsts, with Ports 2nd coming back to Carlton
