I also think this should be a goal for next year.

Not doing so would be a sackin
My view:

Miss finals = sacked
Make finals and lose week one in elimination final = survives
Make finals and win one final (top 6) = no change and coaches 2026 without extension,
Make a prelim = reasonable chance of 1-2 year extension

And they sounded like reasonably productive chats between both clubs at this stage according to TR. we just now need Power to tank in 2025 - certainly possible as 10th fave for flag when I last checked - and they give up a top 10 pick for Luko (@7 years x 900k ish)

Trade wins don’t get you premiership points , sometimes you win sometimes you lose.

Play hardball like Dodoro you become hard to deal with so clubs stay away.

Collingwood people want a first round pick for Noble. For Noble.

We don’t have too much so pick 28 for ANB is fine

Surely if it's as simple as 28 straight it would be done by now. Hopefully there's a bit of haggling about what's coming back, not what extra is being given up.
Melbourne's other picks are currently 40, 48, 53 and 64. I would guess we may be looking to acquire one of those to help match a Welsh bid, if required.

No idea what Melbourne have by way of FS/NGA for this year's draft or next either.

Hearing Scott Lucas talk about Liam Reidy at Freo, stuck behind Jackson and Darcy and is already 24. Looked decent in a couple of games this year, out of contract next year (sounds like no chance of moving now, but next year is open). Should we be targeting him as the ROB replacement?

Draper is the complete package. That's probably why I'm so keen on him above others.
Yep, he's #1 for me as well.

Going to be very interesting to see what North and WC do with Pick 2 and 3. Twomey has said both are open to trading down.

Would hate for Port to gazump us again and land Draper, ala Rozee, but reckon they'll go very hard at trying to.

I don't see them as being comparable at all? Peatling is a quick clean explosive type of player ... Berry is a tacking grunt in-and-under type.

Berry and Crouch - very similar. Except ... Crouch has god-hands when it comes to grabbing the footy - Berry has spirit fingers. Both tackle well, Berry better. Berry a better mark. Neither great disposers.

Could be wrong ... maybe after a we see Peatling in our 22 we will get more of an idea where his best characteristics lie?
the similarities will become evident. quick scrappy kicks after taking possession at stoppage rather than spotting up a target. he probably tips berry out of the 23.

I think its worth remembering how much of an echo chamber this place can be. Everyone I know thinks 28 is about right, all the journos think 28 is about right. It just seems like another thing for the negativity merchants with agendas to lock into in an off season where we're doing well. He's a premiership player who came third in their bnf ffs.
You see it’s posts like this is why us “negative” posters fire back and this place does end up in a shit show because it’s clappers like you that don’t understand the counter argument.

No doubt ANB is a quality player and for a club that’s contending during his remaining career, pick 28 in a deep draft would be fine. But that’s not us, we are years away and the player we picked up at 28 could form a part of our next premiership push, ANB won’t be. ANB selection is to help us win a few more games this year to improve our position and take heat off the club and nothing more, it’s not about winning a flag.

And we aren’t saying getting ANB isn’t a bad thing, it’s the price we are paying as I’ve explained above. We were told when 25 was mooted that “you bedwetters need to relax until it actually happens, it’s only a journo”. Now that it’s actually happens the argument has changed.

As it stands with the recruitment of Peatling, had we not also grabbed ANB, pick 28 would have been used to secure him so we lose it anyway. Using next years second rounder for ANB I would have been more comfortable with, so it doesn’t really matter anymore.

Port will need to acquire 2 top 10 picks to get pick 2 or 3. They're not trading 2/3 for pick 13 and change. Rawlings just said they're only willing to slide 2-3 spots. So pick 5.

Never say never, but they don't have the capital, even with Houston being traded.
