But if he has aspirations for a senior role again, starting from asst again might be too far back

He will never be a senior coach again. The AFL world does not support career senior coaches that can go from one club to another with no success. To earn another shot he would have had to not only make finals, but be an outstanding coach in finals. Chris Scott could walk out of the Cats tomorrow, say he wants to Coach the Crows, the Crows in a heartbeat will sack Nicks and sign Scott. Dew on the other hand cant do that, he just has to pray at some stage he may get another shot. It wont happen. He would have to defy history.

Hmmmm Voss

It’s a long road but it can happen

Rattan is another

If Pyke didn’t take the CEO role at WCE he would have probably landed back in a senior role

Well true, but Voss took the reigns from memory with no real experience at all, merely got the job because like Hird and Buckley he was a club legend. And you are right. I forgot about those examples. Ratten was a good coach at the blues and coached finals. He was sacked unfairly imo. Boys club scape goat was likely. Pyke is a successful coach and we wanted him to stay.

But I admit I did forget Voss and Ratten.

That's pretty poor, not as bad as what we did with Gunston but pretty poor nonetheless
What we did with Gunston? I thought the bloke committed in person then text the club saying he was leaving when on the way to the airport?? Pretty sure there’s nothing we could do to be the bad guys in that scenario

We changed an award that Gunston won. But it was an era of unprofessionalism by our club. It was basically the same people who bought us tippettgate.

If Dew takes up a senior assistant gig and his team are somewhat successful, he'll be handed a head coaching gig guaranteed

Not necessarily... Some blokes are just good assistants compared to head coaches. Look at Leppa.. bloke was a dud coach but a great assistant with a "just a bit" of success.

Not a groundbreaking rumour as it’s already been pretty much assumed but heard today that McHenry is now strongly pursuing more media opportunities in SA for next year onwards, he’s expecting his delisting to be formal soon, no other AFL interest, wants to stay in SA but not interested in playing SANFL. Another former Crow in the media with connections is pushing his case in the local media landscape apparently.

Good luck to him with his new endeavours.

Much rather watch him on the ocean than the field.

I hope he does. He’s a ripping guy and great with people.

Ratten's situation was also a perfect storm for him. He went from being a solid coach, to universally regarded as being anywhere from 'unlucky' to 'hard done by' to 'completely screwed over' by Carlton, to Hawthorn ?senior assistant 3-peat coach.
If he didn't land at Hawthorn and have that success, he probably doesn't get another crack.

When Nicks is sacked, if Leppa wants to apply, I’d be open to him getting the gig too. As would other clubs
