Aren’t we currently on 35 main/3 Rookie A list players (Borlace, Keane & Toby M) - hence have we currently have 3 main list and 3 RL vacancies. ANB and Peatling trades will make us 37/3.

Hence will need to delist 2 contracted players on the promise of re-Rookie listing them (but it would be better if someone else picked them up) to have the 3 compulsory draft vacancies. Best bets for downgrade are Burgess, Schoenberg, Strachan & Smith all of whom are out of contract in 2025.

Hence we can potentially have 3 picks (Pick 4, ???, Welsh) in the main draft and 1 rookie/SSP pick.

The same clogged-list shitshow will occur again next year as several potential delistings (Laird, Jones, Scholl, Cook, Pedlar, etc) are all contracted for 2026.
We don’t have 38/6, we (and all clubs) have 38/4

I think we'd move 4 for 6 and a future first if Richmond has pick 6

Pick 6.......

We've got a decent list of out of contract players to delist or move on next year. Tex, Smith, Schoey, Murphy, Burgess, Crouch, Milera.

I believe we started the season with 37/5.

After delisting and FA exits, we’re at 33/3.

After Trade & fa we have 36/3.

We're currently at 37+3, including ANB/Cumming/Peatling.

Transferring 2 players to the rookie list, and Keane to the senior list, leaves us at 36+4.

That's 2 picks in the ND, and no live picks in the RD.

The only way to increase the number of picks now is to trade or delist a contracted player. Silvers has stated that they are not expecting that to happen.

Not crouch and milera the others I agree. And definitely strachan gone too.

Strachan will be replaced by another backup or developing ruck. Agree they'll keep those 2, hopefully on 1 year deals though. We've got plenty of mids we need to cycle through and Milera will struggle to make our back 7. 3 talls, Hinge, Cumming, Nank and Max is already 7. Not sure a fully fit Milera should play ahead of any of them.

very hard to know til we see if milera can actually move laterally still after this injury because thats his game right there basically

if he ok hes best 23 imo
if he is slow, or cant move laterally he will be stuffed unfortunately

We started the season at 38+4 (Senior + Cat A Rookie). Turray made it 38+5 after the MSD, with Sloane having been placed on the Inactive List.

** Plus Gallagher on the Cat B rookie list.

We are permitted a maximum of 42 players across both lists. We can choose between 38+4, 37+5, or 36+6, but we can't have more than 38 players on the Senior List.

We will be bringing it ANB, Peatling and Cumming, delisting 2 contracted players, and upgrading a rookie (most likely Keane).

These moves will leave us at 36+2, but we will be committed to filling the 2 Cat A rookie list positions by re-drafting the contracted players we delisted.

We will then make 2 live selections in the ND, and re-draft the 2 delisted contracted players in the RD.

There are no options for making a 3rd pick in the ND, unless we trade or delist a contracted player, or if someone signs one of our delisted contracted players.

Do we have to move Keane the main list?

So which of the 7 defenders listed does he dislodge from the 22? Plus Laird, who I don't think belongs but will likely play.

Do we have to move Keane the main list?
We have to move 1 of Keane or Borlase, and it's most likely to be Keane.

Upgrading a rookie decreases the number of ND selections we need to make. Given that we only have 2 list vacancies available, we have no choice but to effectively have Keane swap places with a contracted player currently on the senior list.

We don’t have 38/6, we (and all clubs) have 38/4
Thanks for reminding me … hence we need to trade 1-2 out as well as 1-2 main list rookie downgrades …. With the option of a possible forced rookie upgrade.

Jeez, it doesn’t leave any scope for speculative rookie picks that we once did quite well

I suspect your list mathematics was a bit confused by the inclusion of Gallagher, and the addition of Turray in the MSD.

Gallagher is a Cat B rookie. We're allowed up to 2 Cat B rookies, in addition to our normal quota of senior & Cat A rookie list players. Effectively, we started the season at 38+4+1. We usually don't include him in the list mathematics, because Cat B rookies don't count towards the limit of 42 players.

The other factor is the ability to put players on the Inactive List, and to replace them via the PSSP or MSD. Once a player has been placed on the Inactive List they can't be selected at AFL level for the rest of the season. Thus it is only used for players who have retired, or suffered season-ending injuries. Players can only be placed on the Inactive List AFTER the drafts, so their replacements can only come via the PSSP or MSD. Their replacements potentially take the playing list numbers over the 42 player limit, and need to be included in any list mathematics when it comes to bringing list sizes back down again at the end of the season.

We started the season at 38+4+1. We then placed Sloane on the Inactive List, selecting Turray in the MSD. This took our list to 38+5+1, which is where it was at the end of the season.

I assume it will be Burgess and Schoenberg who we move
The most likely candidates appear to be Smith, Burgess, Schoenberg and Strachan. Probably not Strachan, as we'd be royally screwed if someone signed him as a DFA, leaving us with just ROB/Turray/Thilthorpe as our ruck options for the entire season.
