And Bailey Smith is only worth pick 17 to Geelong but Baker is somehow worth more to West Coast
Ridiculous isn’t it?

I reckon that what’s happening here is that Richmond, who still have Lynch on massive coin making him impossible to move, are effectively “buying” these draft picks by paying a proportion of salary for Rioli and Baker. Carlton may be doing the same with Owies. Maybe even paying 100%.

West Coast shouldn’t be under any cap pressure, but we know GC are.

It’s the only explanation that I can see that makes these seemingly lopsided trades make any sense.

I actually can't comprehend what the Eagles are doing here, did not expect this from a normally competent club

I would think this puts to end any talk of us still being a powerhouse club etc. Competent, well run clubs don’t allow themselves to collapse the way we have done over the past few years.

This reeks of a short term sugar hit, 3 years of losses and no stomach for a proper rebuild. Very disappointing but what can you do 🤷‍♂️

Isn't Owies out of contract?

Harley Reid and Draper in that midfield would have been much better than anything Baker can add.
Genuinely was worried that the Eagles would take Draper at 3.

Blues wont take him if there is an equal or better option at 3 thats Victorian.

It reeks of bringing in ex Richmond people who want to look after their previous club also.

The long term play would be Draper and Reid for 10 years

Terrible trade.

West Coast again giving very high pick away for cents on the dollar. Not sure they can complete their rebuild when they keep giving top picks away.

From a selfish point of view, it is good for Crows if we really are into Draper. Pretty much guarantees he’ll be there at 4 now.
Draper is a lock at 4. Zero doubt.

What gets me is that with pick 3 in the PSD, couldn't they walk Baker to that draft if a deal could not have been made? Surely that would have been leverage to pay a reduced amount for him (I assume he is out of contract?). It seems like they have got that fixated on Baker that all reasoning and sound judgement has gone out the window here.

Only a power fan would agree with this.Wait hang on mcleod at 50 lines it up :)

BUT they are also losing their third best player after JHF and Butters. Captain Hardness rating has fallen a long way and not top 50 in competition any longer. Rankine and Dawson >>>>>Rozee
Lol not sure why you're being so cute. Port might be many things but attracting players and making smart pick upgrades is one thing they've killed us on

Swapping a future 1st in a weak draft for pick 13 in a strong draft is an easy win

Luko for Houston with his salary is a risk but I like it too, swapping a low impact position in hbf for a hff or maybe even key position forward, backing themselves to get the best out of the superior talent

Meanwhile we missed out on the best talent available in luko and picked up a defensive small forward, a hbf, a B grade mid, traded for an inferior future 3rd round pick and go into a strong draft with just one pick after just finishing 15th. Maybe one of our fringe additions surprise us like Dawson but it will be more dumb luck than adventurous management you feel

12 and 14 for pick 3....

GC could have traded pick 6 up to 3 to get above the Lombard range. 6 + 20 for 3... that's more a more realistic trade and GC would have another top 3 player. 20 goes to Richmond for Baker.

Whoever is managing both of their trade periods needs to be fired. Abysmal.

From the Eagles point of view re retention FOS would have been a better fit given he's a close mate of Harley Reid.

Take a page out of Brisbane's playbook re retention.

Short term sugar hit with Don Pyke in charge? Yep sounds about right
