I wonder if they offered a longer contract for minimum chips, could be that after his end to the season that Bond backs himself to be worth more?

Just speculating.

Absolutely doubt that. Bond is a pick 50 that played 7 games.

Him and his agent would have signed any guaranteed money and the opportunity to be on an AFL list another year.

If he has a breakout year - the club would want to extend anyway and him and his agent would be able to renogiate his 2026 figure.

I think borlase will only ever be a backup... Hes not good enough for the main team unless he improves alot at this stage. But if thats the role hes happy with then i think it would suit him. Some players will only ever be role players.
Also the old basketball adage "You can't teach height".

You’re right about Borlase as a back up but ATM there’s little to choose between Borlase and Butts. Jordan has him for height (4cm) and reach but James is stronger, more durable and a better kick. Both lack pace and athleticism and we have better options than either.

Disagree, Jordan Butts is an infinitely better footballer than Borlase, only score Borlase has him on at this stage is durability.
Butts does not lack athleticism either, he plays the role the coaches ask of him.

Butts is 198cm, Borlase 192cm I think you'll find.

Will be interesting to see how Butts goes in 2025

He looked to be physically labouring through 2023. Hobbling through games. Then had a great offseason and looked a new player in 2024. Fully fit he moved well and was excellent defensively.

How long will he be limited by his foot surgery? Maybe he's a player who needs an unfettered preseason. If he slips back in terms of fitness I can see him getting squeezed out if Murray, Keane and Worrell are all firing.

Even earlier in the year Jordan wasn't at his best obviously playing with a calf issue that was heavily strapped.
When that came off he looked back to something like his best until he went down with the foot issue.

The problem I have with Butts is that my heart is in my mouth every time he has the ball especially when he’s looking around for options at half back, not so much with Borlase.
You’re right about the height though, but Borlase does play tall.

hopefully dominating.... in the SANFL

I actually thought our defence held up well, scores against support it, given how shit our vanilla midfield was, again Nicks fault for taking too long to change it.

Loved how he catches up with King to say it wasn’t the midfield mix and blamed other crap like shape, then he changes the midfield mix and wallah.

He’s such a dodgy used car salesman but also an idiot

Internally they are buying it

I suggest you check Jordan'6 kicking efficiency.

Butts 84.3%

Borlase 81.7%

Keane 79.3%

Murray 76.5%

The thing is, both Butts and Borlase are very slow decision-makers with ball in hand. They tend to get most of their possessions by marking the ball, then take time to assess. Most of the time any option up-field gets closed down, and so eventually they take a short, safe option, usually sideways or backwards. Yes, that makes their disposal efficiency look good, but it means that somebody else then has to make the difficult kick.

Keane and Murray are much quicker to pull the trigger and get the ball to a free player down the field.

if Butts isn't in our best 22 because of the others ahead of him, I think it's safe to say our backline is in very good shape.

Which is great because at the start of 2024 it was arguably our biggest weakness.
Hopefully with that depth too we don't Talia him and actually let him recover from some of these injuries rather than him playing through them and ending his career early.

So many underrate (a fit) Butts' ability to completely negate. So many times live watched Keane leave his man for the spectacular and bitch at teammates when they didn't cover for him. Keane attacking overrated (one great kick to several less so) and defence can be pretty dodgy.
for balance against the better forwards need a defender who can actually negate and if he kicks the ball safely so be it.

The one thing Borlase has over Butts is those shoulders, man if I was a 20 something with that rig I'd never wear a shirt
