We need a serious campaigner who burns when they lose. Sheezel has this but he doesn’t seem like the guy to death stare a LMac in the eye and say be better campaigner.

Need someone who will tell Zurhaar his 5 year VFL contract was a good choice for someone who touches the ball 10 times a game

I'd like to recruit a big strong log like josh walker to swing between forward and back. He doesnt need to be terribly skillful, just hold a mark or destroy a pack. Ccj is the guy we want to do this, but i am not sure he has it in him.

A later year drew petrie would be great. The kp talls we have at the moment are light weight.

I think we should aim to get 1 or ideally 2 quality talls in the draft, offer a couple years to a contested marking UFA like Sam Day or Tim Membrey as a stop gap, and aim to get Will Dawson serious game time by the second half of next year.

Sam Day seems the most likely and would compliment Larkey with what he brings. It would be a a risk given his injury - but wouldn’t cost any draft picks.

There’s a lot of reason to poo poo this option but we need to take risks if we’re going to get out of this hole.

If the risk is just a list spot and the salary, I wouldn't sweat it.

If this isn't Brady and Clayton in the offseason dancing attempting to whoo Fyfe across with a big bag of cash..
regardless of we pick up in the draft we desperately need someone with experience and work ethic for the next three years.

Gee I'd forgotten about him, the way we're going he'd finish top five in our B&F, and I was very relieved when he finished up.

Glory days of NMFC, Josh Walker , cripes!

Josh Walker was exactly our problem writ large. You can have one of these journeyman in a team that isn't contending and it will probably be workable. Once you have 7-8 similar the whole thing falls apart completely. If he was rounding out your 23 and good depth you make it work until you get a better option, but when you are relying on more than a couple of these types they just end up exposing each other.

Top bloke, not "the problem" as one player very rarely is but you can't have players that make their teammates look worse and put them under even more pressure. I too was relieved when they let him go even though we had no real replacement.

Simply has to happen. The sad thing is that it even Duck would have struggled to turn this sh*t show around.

The only option in front of us is to prune the deadwood leadership right back and allow the new branches to take the lead.
I don't know. I has a dream the other day of xerri winning his own tap and hacking it forward into the paddock where Carey would fly back wards and mark everything.

Stevenson highly unlikely to be at nmfc next year, one way or another

There is mutual interest in dissolving this relationship
Yeh this was confirmed 2 days ago.
He is retiring.

Summarising the last few pages:
Our older blokes are shite and we need to recruit some campaigners that hate losing.

Only the ones that are basically cooked at their current clubs.

Parker is probably the closest to offering something, but he starts in the middle and goes forward because he's cooked. Even then he's more a marking forward than crumbing and we have Simpkin, Zurhaar and Curtis for that. We need those 3 to improve in CBAs. I dont see how we fit in another med marking type in our front half.

So many threads of doom, not sure where this post is best suited. I feel the angst, I feel the bitter disappointment. But yet again there is a simple answer as to why we haven't improved. It isn't al clarko, it isn't Viney, it isn't the Pres.

It is 100% recruiting. I think seasons 2017-2020 are distance enough memories to have a bit of a deep dive.

2017 - finished 15th. 7 draft picks 5 Nat 2 Rookie
Wins LDU pick 4. Xerri pick 72.
Rating 7/10.
Turned this draft around with the emergence of Xerri, you have every right to expect a pick 4 to be a very good footballer.

2018 - Finished 9th. 7 Draft Picks 5 Nat 2 Rookie
Wins Scott pick 49
3/10
Dogs balls an absolute bust

2019 - Finished 12th. 4 picks 3 Nat 1 Mid season.
Wins Comben.
3/10.
Lucky AF and a long way to go with Charlie. Fingers crossed aye.

2020 - Finished 17th. 7 Draft Picks 5 Nat 2 Rookie
Wins ZERO
Rating 2/10 Fingers crossed Powell/ Ford can build a solid career.

But I doubt we have one player on the list taken in the 2020 draft by season close 2026.

So 4 years of drafting with 25 picks and we to show for it.

1. LDU
2. Xerri
3.Comben
4.Scott

While some still hold out hope for Phillips, Powell and Ford. And fair enough as that's your right.

That is 100% failure on whoever made the calls during the 2017-2020 seasons.

I do though feel when we deep dive into seasons 2021- 2025 in a few years time it will be much more positive experience.
And will translate well and show why we've improved.

But for now

oh well.
2017 gets even better when you realise that was the draft meant to be the basis for our list, and we also added from it:

Stephenson: pick 6
Bonar: pick 11
CCJ: pick 19

So while whoever recruited for 2017 was bad, we doubled down on it from 2020 onwards by bringing in players from that draft.

😬
