Add to that: Fisher, Tucker, Shiels, McDonald, Taylor, Xerri are all experienced and good runners. They should all be running out games.
Agree that all those guys are good runners except for McDonald. I know he can run an OK 2km time trial but he's not a natural mover and wouldn't run good 10km times. He lacks stamina and looked like a crab in the second half.

Let’s hope he was actually fatigued, because if he wasn’t that’s a monumental **** up from Clarko.

He stays on and quells Daicos a little bit we win and Phillips also gets a massive confidence boost from the performance.

From all of the ummm’s when Clarko was asked the question on why he subbed Phillips, I’m leaning towards a coaching **** up.

How bout phillips spending some forward minutes maybe swapping with pauley cutris as a defebsive fwd if not on tagging duties and freeing up interchange rotations for the other mids? Could structure a fwd line around souv, tess, zane will/pc . I did have hopes of sausage getting a gig going forward but thats less likely now.

I would have subbed McDonald

I would have subbed Tucker or Powell.

Both were players that Jaidyn could 'replace' without disrupting what had been working effectively for the first 3 quarters.

As a tagger he gets more ball, kicks a goal and plays better than when he gets free rein.
Makes no sense at all, but I love what I saw of Will today. Persist with Will as our tagger
I guess by running with a oppo player, you getting dragged from contest to contest and more than likely more than normal, having to be more accountable.
This role could be the making of him.
By chasing the midfield guns of opposition sides, he can learn more about running patterns, massively increase his running fitness on the job and realise just how hard you have to run and for longer (repeat efforts), if you want to be elite. Hopefully he gets that opportunity in the 1s more often this season.

Gets subbed off

He’s got his papers stamped for sure

Nah, he's just not fit enough yet to run out a whole game with a guy like Daicos.

If he puts in the work to build his endurance, he'll be at Arden Street for many years to come.

Not against reinventing him as a tagger. At this point we don’t really have too much to lose, as at the rate he’d be going, he was headed to either the scrape heap or plucked from an oppo club for chump change anyway.

Remember Ben Jacobs career was headed down the same page not so long ago and he essentially got a 2nd career as one of the AFL’s best taggers.
Offensive mids looks pretty secure in the hands of LDU, Wardlaw and Sheezel. Could use us a specialist tagger/shutdown player in there.
Yes and remember that just as Ben was having the head issues, he’d developed from not just being the stopper, but eventually got to the point of accumulating possessions himself, something I think Will can also do eventually.

You have to put some faith in the coaches in this situation. Sitting on Daicos for 3 qtrs is a bit more taxing than getting 20 odd in the VFL.

Fair to say that I have more faith in Clarko and co's decsion making than the nuffberries on here declaring the decision to be the greatest coaching mistake in history.

For mine the real issue with the sub is that we don't have better than Jaidyn to bring on.

I know he wasn't named in the team, but Greenwood would have done a better job than Jaidyn IMO.

Clarko said Daicos ripping us a new one after the sub had nothing to do with it so that's that

I think we need to focus on the “we were fatiguing” part of his comment, indicating possibly that the midfield as a whole was struggling, unfortunately for us, he chose Will, due to his season so for, to be the one to go, Clarko possibly thinking “he’s done a great job, but can we get another qtr out if him”,? For me, Clarko shit the bed.
I like Shiels and I can’t remember the game earlier this season, but it was the same scenario, went to the Shiels well to get a job done in the last, but the well, just like this time, was empty.

Get ready for meltdown mode on here if he's not picked next week! Jy should be back and Melbourne don't have a midfielder worthy of a tag. Oliver's not the threat he once was and I reckon Clarko will back our midfield to beat them head to head.
I must commend you, you’ve come on here after he’s played a more than reasonable game and still let go with a few backhanded sprays, that’s commitment, unlike a few of your cohorts, that are no doubt lying in a dark corner, in a fetal position, waiting for him to stuff up again before raring their ugly heads.

maybe Payne soon?

From the amount of umms and uncertainty he delivered in his response to that question, I feel as though AC backed himself into a bit of a corner there with his answer.

He played more ToG than Teakle, Powell, Ford and Pink in a quarter less actual game time.

I'm rapt Will had a good game. I'm willing to take Clarko on his word though. He did play 100% of the third quarter (and also had 7 and a goal).
I'm told It was Phillips who initiated the call to sub him. He was cramping up badly. This information was via one of our assistant coaches.
