Anderson is completely and utterly cooked.

Anything over 300 lead they won't chase down on 4th innings. Granted we don't have Lyon to bowl but I think Head will be able to cover enough for him. Our bowlers are relatively fresh so I think if its not doing much they will employ the short bowling tactic again and see if England will play it any different.
It's going to be interesting to see how many runs we set them to chase. Lets remember they batted poorly in the first dig but still got 325 off 70 overs run rate above 4.

We know with bazball regardless if the target set is 500 or 250 they are going to have a go chasing it. Its one of the reasons they have asked of for flat decks this series as they are backing themselves to chase anything.

So we know this. We do not want to give them a sporting declaration say 350 off 100 overs. This isn't about tempting them to go for a total in a bid for them to play rash shots giving us more wicket opportunities. They are going to do that anyway.

I would try to bat at least 2 and half sessions and look at a lead of 450 plus ..have 5/10 overs tonight with 90 overs tomorrow. 90 overs is enough to bowls them out ..we bowled them out 70 odd overs in the first dig

Going to be interesting seeing what Cummins and Macca do

Reckon the only fly in the ointment to us winning this match is the fickle English weather. Is mid summer over there and this week they are having low 20s with overcast and occasional sun. Problem is the sun usually shines when we are bowling and the overcast when we are batting, except yesterday. Today we want sunshine as we are batting while tomorrow we need England to be facing a cloudy day while we bowl, the opposite has been predicted.
1 up with 3 to play is fine by me (obviously 2 up is better). England needs to win at least 2 Tests to reclaim the Ashes, and with their bowlers bowling so many overs, that's looking increasingly unlikely. We just can't give them any chance of making it 1-1 after Lords.

That was Punters opinion on what we should do too. Set them an impossible target and see how resilient Blueballs really is
Cummins and Macca should channel the old Border/Simpson philosophy of 89. Give the opposition absolutely nothing bat them out of the game and back your quicks to bowl them out in a day. Grind there bowlers into the dust

I remember the 89 series AB would regularly bat all day in the 2nd innings on the the fourth day....give them nothing then back Alderman and Co to bowl them out on the last day chasing mammoth totals

Let's see here, ENG have had better bowling and batting conditions this match, plus we lost our spinner to a freak injury midway through their innings - yet they find themselves chasing the game after batting like complete morons?

Bravo England. Bravo.

(RE the game itself, I think 450 is an ideal lead, especially since Lord's flattens out and Day 5 is apparently sunny. If they somehow get that, then hats off to them.)

The thing is, we're already 220 in front. We don't even need to do anything silly - bat for 75 overs tonight, and the lead will be close to 500 with an hour to play. They won't relish a nasty little session before stumps, and in that frame of mind, they could easily lose 2 or 3 by the end of play.

BBC is interesting.

England bouncing the tail in the first test was "Bazball".

Australia bouncing the tail in the second test was "crude tactics".

Exactly my thinking; 450 from 90 overs is five an over. Let’s set them that and see how committed they are Bazball. Plus take a few overs tonight.

That said, they could still bowl us out for around 300 by tea, giving them a target of less than 400 and plenty of time.

100%. It still makes me laugh that baz himself his finest moment was when he beat the record for fastest hundred.. in a game we won comfortably. In nz.
Yes, and I thought at the time it was one of the stupidest things I'd ever seen. Entertain the crowd and get personal glory and sacrifice the team result for it.
