500 in 3.5 sessions seems generous enough. they won't be able to resist, or they'll be forced to play out a boring draw. yuck. they'll have to play shots they've never played before, like a backward or forward defense.

about 280 off 70. maybe not possible in not ideal batting conditions.

I just want to see England completely demoralised. Especially after Broad's stupid appealing for Marnus's wicket.

I don't care how it happens, just make it so.
That cleaning up of them by the bowlers was so entertaining.
Hopefully settle in tonight for an Usman/Smith century double followed by a Travball blitz to set them 500. Then have them 3/21 at stumps. 🤞

Pessimist here.

Reckon there's another twist coming.

Wouldn't surprise me to be bowled out for 250 and set them 340ish and a nailbiter day 5

Eng $6 .75 still feels juicy to me.

Or cover both bases and Eng or draw $3.35

Annoying it looks like we won't be getting good batting conditions first session felt like clear skies we could really push things but first session might be tricky.

Really is crazy how different conditions will likely end up for two teams hard to remember such a disparity in a test.

I first came across him when he was on Offsiders regularly and he always spoke really well on a variety of sports.

Usually, I don't like drawn Test matches, although some have been very tense/exciting.

I'd love it, yes, LOVE IT, if Oz batted until 5p.m. on the last day (Khawaja 300+, Smith and Head 200s each)
1) to absolutely exhaust the Pommie bowlers into stupefied exhaustion, and
2) to aggravate the Pommies and their supporters like never before.

On second thoughts, a win would be delicious.
Bat into day 5, set 500 off 70 overs. Bazball that suckaz

I know the feeling, but believe, brother.
We have 4 of the top-10 batsmen in the world, 2 of them are not out, Head's in life-best form, Green won't fail again, Carey and Cummins batting well.

I can't see it. Anderson can barely run and if they lose this Test, he'll be rested for Test 3 and with more roads being prepared I wouldn't be surprised if he retires.
Stokes is on one knee. Robinson is throwing up medium-paced pies.
Added to that, this mob of Aussies have got a determined gleam in their eye. I sense real desperation to win this series.

Yeah, the $3.35 is a good bet, with Lyon out.

My thoughts as well and I also think Punter faced better bowlers.

Ponting was an absolute colossus at his peak, but pitches were definitely flatter back then than they have been over Smith's career.

Also, not to be that guy, but during Ponting's peak there weren't too many outstanding non-Australian bowlers. Let's see:

BAN/ZIM: Were barely county standard during the 2000s (Flower/Streak aside).

ENG: Their Fab Four (Flintoff, Hoggard, Harmison, Jones) didn't play together long enough. Broad/Anderson/Swann only started coming into their own when Ponting was declining.

IND: They mostly lacked consistently good pacemen, Srinath aside. During Ponting's peak, Kumble did much of the work outside IND while some flash-in-the-pan quick chipped in.

NZ: Their best bowler (Bond) was rarely available and their most reliable quick (Martin) was pretty innocuous when the ball wasn't seaming.

SA: At their weakest since readmission. Nel, Ntini and a declining Pollock aren't a patch on later SA attacks.

WI: Mostly a joke. Collymore/Dillon were the best of a bad bunch, and Roach only emerged after Ponting started declining.

I'd say that only PAK (young Amir/Asif/Akhtar/Kaneria) and SL (Murali/Vaas) have superior attacks to their current incarnations.

That said, it's very hard to split Ponting and Smith. I think Smith is more adaptable, has a sounder temperament and is a better player of spin, but Ponting was definitely more destructive and superior against express pace. Also, Smith won't play 168 Test matches. Maybe it's better to revisit at a later date.

I loved Punter but you always had your heart in your mouth for the first 10-20 balls he faced

Wonder if the rumours are true that Broad has a broken Jaw and Pope could miss next game with his shoulder?

Would certainly be interesting no Broad makes Englands attack look ordinary

Yeah, it was possible to trap him in front of the stumps or have him edging full, wide outswingers because he'd move across his stumps and reach for the ball.

If you got it wrong though, he'd send you to the fence.

If that's the case they probably bring in Woakes and Foakes. Or maybe Wood if he's fit, Anderson should need a rest next test as well considering the short turnaround
