Very cool man, you don’t have better things to do with your time then fill the thread with crap one liners “no, you”

Pretty cringe

Using a verb like cringe as a noun because modern society tells you to is pretty ‘cringe’ too as far as I’m concerned.

Yes mate, when a bunch of dipsh*ts beat their chest about events that haven’t reached a conclusion yet and make themselves look stupid, and it’s 10pm on a Sunday and my kids are in bed and I literally DONT have anything better to do, I will pick a few of them out and reply with a couple of ‘crappy one liners.’

If the appraisal was coming from someone with a vocabulary dependent on words with more depth than ‘cringe’ I may be somewhat more inclined to take offence to the critique.

That’s what happens during a game when someone makes a poor assessment. If someone said halfway through the first quarter of an AFL game that the Dogs were shithouse and would be lucky to get a game in the VFL as they slipped 8 goals behind Collingwood and then beat them, I’m pretty sure people saying that would have to cop it on the chin.

In the last 4 test series, Australia have only defeated Pakistan. Lost to India, drew with England & West Indies. It's concerning if you're part of the Australian set up. The next series v NZ is going to be massive, unfortunately another 2 test series. It's schedule in late feb/early march, I hope the weather will be good for it.

He obviously batted wretchedly but Brathwaite captained beautifully I thought compared to last summer.

He actually looked from the outset like a captain who legitimately came here to win not to compete - I know that’s at odds with his ultra cautious batting approach but in the past he’s rung his bowling changes ‘by the numbers’ and gone ultra defensive in the field, he’s used himself as a bowling option and often protected younger bowlers.
He’s started sessions with defensive options. He’s had 2-3 slips at times when he’s needed to attack.

There was none of that throughout this series. He captained like a leader who felt he had a strong team at his disposal and that must have made his young players feel so confident
It obviously helps when you've got a ridiculous superstar in Shamar but his fielding captaincy really starred this series. Plenty of traps set and executed on. And he obviously cultivates an incredibly good culture by how happy the team always seem, particularly Shamar speaking so highly of him and how he was mentally carried through that last innings by the team.

The ICC recognised him by naming him in a team, that doesn’t make him the world’s best middle order batsman.

Across the last 18 months he’s averaged 48. Ok, fair play.
That actually drops significantly if you make it the last 12: I made it 18 to allow a pretty soft 175 he made coming in after Marnus had his way with my world beating West Indians last summer.

Of batsmen who have played a significant amount of innings batting at numbers 4-6 in the same period, there’s 5 who have a better record and considering one of them - Harry Brooke - has scored nearly 1300 runs at 68 (Head’s is 48) and a strike rate in the 90s (Head’s is 80) it’s a pretty broad statement to make.

Now.
Since the start of 2023, his average drops to 37.5, that’s when we get to ‘no there’s no f**ken way he’s the world’s best middle order batsman’ territory.
Cherry picking stats, always the sign of a weak argument. 'Lets remove these random innings where he scored well, then compare it to some other player and leave all their innings in'

Does the WTC final not count?

It’s not cherry picking stats, is it.

It’s actually cherry picking stats to HELP head’s case. I literally EXPANDED the period in question to make him look better mate 😂😂

In the last 18 months he averages 48 which makes him one of a whole group of players - many of whom are still well ahead of him - the likes of Root and others still boast better numbers and as I said Brooke’s record in exactly the same period absolutely destroy’s Head’s. He averages 20 more at a strike rate 20 higher. I don’t NEED to cherry pick anything.

However then, as I clearly explained, I simply looked at the figures from the start of 2023.

I would have thought 13 months is a very good sample size for ‘the best current middle order batsman in the world’ to be judged by.

The ‘best current middle order batsman in the world’ averages 37.5

I haven’t cherry picked anything mate.

It’s a fact. You can turn the calculator upside down all you like. It won’t change the numbers and it won’t change the fact. You’re lauding and rating of him is based on a batting average that would get you dropped from a lot of sides in years gone by.

I like the guy and he’s not going anywhere and he’s played some great innings across the formats in recent times but a claim like ‘he’s the best middle order batsman in the world’ simply isn’t true if you’re talking about test cricket.

Well it's the culmination of 3 years of Test cricket, so yes, it is a series otherwise there wouldn't be a final.

LOL. You clearly don't understand what a series means. It's not a series whichever way you try to spin it. What you've described is more of a tournament final than a series. Take the loss like the Australian cricket team & move on. Don't be a Rodney Hogg about it.

You've ignored a win which ranked us as the number one Test side for the 3 year period though, whatever way you want to spin it, that can't just be ignored to make your random point.

We are the best of all time what are you talking about Cummins is the best captain ever according to the w***ers here

I've clearly said test series. My point was about the series that have been played. Do you now understand the meaning of a series? My point isn't random since it's a trend. You're getting more worked up than when Adelaide tried to claim a goal when it hit the behind post...

Based on stupidly different series lengths and over rates for each country. Lost home and away to India, drew with england and drew with the Windies. What a powerhouse

How nice would it be to have a third test now, I class this as a drawn series the retain the trophy stuff is one of the lamest things in cricket.

If he wasn't a boomer I'd say that's a funny response, but that just reeks of "old man can never be wrong" lmao
He’s always taken the puss and made over the top outlandish statements - it is a funny response - he just throws it out there and see who takes a bite - sometimes it comes off, sometimes it don’t but i doubt he’ll lose any sleep. - he’s a long, long way away from Neil Harvey

It stacks up to Healy who was an old style keeper.

Carey averaged 24 for the year. Very poor. Yes he has been good behind the stumps but he’s almost at the bottom of keepers at test level at the moment.
what did Green average for the year? He averages about 24 since 2023. So you're having a go at a keeper for averaging that (because you are one of those nuffies who just wants players dropped all the time so players from your state can play) but it's ok for Green to do that as a specialist batsman... check mate.

And you're also picking on a keeper who had an incredible year behind the stumps. He's not getting dropped so you'll probably need to learn how to deal with it.
