There are plenty of people in the same age bracket as Smith and Cummins who disagree. There are obvious career consequences if you don’t toe certain lines.

And when it is not just the current players but the former players, commentators, administrators and board members, safe to say the leagues are not representative of their own constituency.

They are firmly in the minority though in those age brackets, and equally, people are attracted to people who share similar viewpoints/attitudes towards life - so not only minority but with a good percentage unpopular. After all, age is one of the more stronger predictor for what opinions someone holds.

There are definitely some - especially in the administrators and board members who are trying to read the tea-leaves and guess where society is going, after all, sport and politics are intertwined at the hip, but really, that's just following the younger generation and their thought-lines.
