If there's any single club I'd prefer to deal with it'd be the Suns. We made it easy for BEllis to get there 12 months ago and they made it easy for Lynchy to get to us . It seems there's a pretty good working relationship between the two clubs, so I would expect a reasonably decent return if Broady was to be traded.

That said, hope like hell he stays.

Re Adelaide Tiger71 had mail that we were into a trade for Crouch. They pay 70% of his salary and get some good young tigers for our DNA. So if they got CCJ and Graham that'd get somewhere near the mark.

I'm not sold of Crouch. But given reduced list sizes mean we will have to lose these good young guys I can see how we'd try to load up for the next 3 years to win another premiership or 2.

I would not want Crouch coming anywhere near Richmond FC, it is not our job to teach 27 year olds how to locate our end of the ground on a compass. I certainly wouldn’t be giving up Graham and Coleman-Jones for him. Let him walk to another club, Crows get another strong pick in compensation and we target their first rounder that is tied to GWS.

Crouch is only going to clog up our team and I really do not want to see our club do this, even if a good chunk of his wage gets paid.

I'm not disagreeing. If the club does though, then I'll back the club in.

Maybe we could give Broad and something for Will Brodie and 2m Peter. Or he’s from WA broad and Macintosh for Cerra and a pick?

I think these are the sort of deals that might open up for us.

Not sure where two thousand millimetre Peter fits into our team because he would be sitting behind others as matters stand, but he is too good not to be playing AFL footy. You could see a club like the Swans having a good crack for him. Lions as well.

they certainly screw the other side of the table with their uncontracted players departing , see how they play ball when shoes on the other foot

Dont see Broad as a kpp and there in lies the problem.
For me with Astbury back in the team it becomes a choice between Broad and Grimes for that third tall spot, and Grimes wins that one hands down.

Astbury and Balta are our KPD'S when fit.
Grimes can play KPD out of neccesity but he is also immensely valuable as a third tall or someone who can play small really well if need be.
Vlastuin is a big bodied medium who reads it well, and Houli is the outlet player.

It leaves one role and unfortunately Broad does not fit that role. I really was hoping a player like Stack a quick hard edged small who could shut down an opponent and provide plenty of run would make the grade in time as a Houli type, but with the required defensive attributes to go with it.
Im adamant Marlion Pickett could do this role really well as well because thats what hes done most of his career.

Another way to look at it is the 2017 team the back half for the yr and the g/f went MOSTLY like this

Vlastuin 187/88 - Astbury 195/96 - Grimes 193/90
Broad 192/89 - Rance 194/94 - Houli 180/83

We won a flag with four blokes 190cm or taller in the back half.

For me Broad if he is to stay he needs to find a lot more ball, become more of a rebounder and maintain the defensive efforts. For me i think the spot is open for a more dynamic polished type.

He is best mates with Brando who would be in his ear, plus GC probably have cash to burn...a very good player, it would be sad to lose him, but if takes the money then good on him, he has won 2 flags with us
They couldn’t have too much spare tpp they have an extra 10 players on their list

Suns have a bit of depth on their list now and quite a lot of decent players who can’t get a look in. If we were to lose Broad, and you wouldn’t want to lose him, then the Suns may be in a decent position to trade for him. I was just reviewing their team last night and thinking they need one or two really good defenders. Rance out of retirement would be a good fit for them was what I was thinking last night. I wasn’t thinking of Broad....campaigners.

The Suns currently hold 2 x second round picks, their own, maybe expected to start at around mid 24, and the second round pick tied to the Lions which will start around the low 30’s. Clubs galore could be looking to unload first rounders so they don’t have to use them on academy or f/s tied players, so you never know what deals can be done. Port fluked pick 11 for Polec and Pittard because North didn’t want to use it on Tarryn Thomas, so all things are possible. Not sure where Suns stand in terms of academy players this year but if they have an expected early pick we could possibly winkle their first rounder out of them in a deal involving someone like Broad.

If we can hold Broad we need to but if these guys get offers that are too big for us to match you just have to make the best of the situation.

The three other names mentioned on AFL.com.au as being out of contract with clubs “circling” were Nankervis, and Graham. Predictably also Coleman-Jones. You could really see Crows coming for the latter pair with decent offers and they hold two first rounders and two second rounders going into this draft. The Crows will have pick one and the GWS first round pick, which could possibly start in the top 10 given the current shaky form of GWS. The Crows will also have their own second rounder plus the Bulldogs second rounder and those could start at about picks 19, and 28 or so, but would be expected to slide from there.

I suspect this will be our most active off season since the end of 2016.

Bearing in mind good draft picks could be worth less this year because the high end of the draft is expected to be riddled with academy and f/s picks, my stab at rating the players mentioned in terms of draft pick value would be:

Coleman-Jones pick 16
Graham pick 22
Broad pick 20
Nankervis pick 28

These guys have some sort of decent currency. Hate to lose them all, in fact it won’t be good to lose any of them. But Graham and Coleman-Jones going to the Crows I could just about see that netting us the first round pick tied to GWS performance. And there may be some possibility that Broad could be packaged up with something else to get the Suns’ first rounder. This way we could start the draft with picks around 6, 10 and 18. With a certain junior Rioli to come later....
Why on earth would you consider Coleman-Jones expendable?

We fit broad grimes Rance houli vlastuin and Astbury in the side through 17 and 18. If all that happens is balta replaces Rance and short/bakes push more to the wings I don't see the problem.

Good question. I don’t. Would love him to stay. But can you see a scenario where Crows don’t come and offer him 3 x $400k or so and a likely forward ruck relief spot in the AFL team? To return to his home state....and we maybe offer 2 x $300 tops and may still be in the queue...I am just joining the dots, but would love him to stay at Tigerland. Best way to achieve that right now would be Jack deciding to retire I think. I don’t think that is likely and not even sure it is desirable. Some players you are just going to lose and if you are forced into losing a good one, then it is a matter of making the most of it, thus my post. I would be trying to hold on to all four players mentioned by the way, but pure football economics may not allow this.

Exactly and Dave will retire soon too.

No point losing 3 tall defenders in 3 years if you dont have the replacements.

The good news is CJ is contracted for next year. He'll be worth more then if he's as good as we think.

Nothing to do with the Suns though
Put that one down to Barrett the Parrot.

"Squawk - Ellis MUST NOT BE END OF FIRST ROUND ! SQUAWK. Ellis end of second round. Ellis end of second round !!! Squawk".

Damien wants a cracker.

From an afl employee too. Compromised much ?

It's ok I'm over it now. Not !

Will be top 3 in their b&f possibly too.

If Broad were to leave, Garth and Markov might be worth hanging onto. Or play Kmac in the back half.
Whenever we've played Kmac in defence he becomes a turnover merchant under pressure. As he's showing now, out on the wing he's a long striding asset. He's a winger. He needs room to get I to his moves and runs his opponent off their legs.

It's the same when some here call for Vlaus to go into the middle. Whenever we've tried that he's shown he's not up to it. He's a defender pure and simple. Playing dudes out of position always gets us into trouble.
