Hopefully that gutsy mark he took in the 2nd gives him that confidence.

I've seen Miller play forward more than once and that's why I'd never play him there. One has been in the system for 5 years, is 198cm and 95kg's, the other a first year skinny kid who has been struggling for touch for the last few weeks. I know which one I would lay the responsibility on.
Miller will only find his feet until Vlastuin and Gibcus come back, and then he will be dropped, that is the pattern. So why not give him the chance of playing forward with a bit of second ruck work. It sounds like Balta is not going to play so somebody has to have a spell in the ruck and it isn't Gibcus.
I've seen Miller play forward once and he looked a natural and it has frustrated me ever since that they haven't done if again. We have zero key forward depth.
Miller hasn't played forward in years and is marking the ball at VFL level as good as anyone. Besides it's about moving around and making a target or busting packs so that the 3rd man up doesn't get an easy intercept. Miller has the weight to do that, Gibcus forward would be more like Fitsch, which is not much use to us although as you say he is far more talented so he might clunk a few.I've seen Miller play forward more than once and that's why I'd never play him there.
Gibcus is eleventeen times more talented, and 46 kajillion times better in the air. The first year skinny kid has been picked ahead of the 5-years-in-the-system fella at every opportunity. And rightly.
Anyway, looks like Nank might play, which solves the problem because Ryan will play forward/second ruck.

The next pack Miller busts will be his first.Miller hasn't played forward in years and is marking the ball at VFL level as good as anyone. Still only 22 years old, at almost 2m tall he shouldn't be expected to hit his best for another 2-3 yearsThe next pack Miller busts will be his first.
I'm not a hater but physical confidence has always been his weak point. It was very encouraging to see him stand his ground and take that mark on Saturday when the pack was coming. That's why I say let him build down back.
That and he's no good forward.
He has not played forward for 3 years, so we don't really know with any certainty. You obviously haven't been watching much of the VFL because he's been marking those balls all season. The next pack Miller busts will be his first.

I watch every VFL game. He's marked the ball well recently. Not always. None standing under the pack, more reading it and using his pace to intercept before anyone else can get there. He has not played forward for 3 years, so we don't really know with any certainty. Agree and Gibcus form has been poor his last 2 gamesI'd be playing Miller ahead of Gibcus for at least the next few weeks. I doubt that is a popular opinion here, but I think Miller is the better choice at this stage of the year. Miller is a 5th year player, Gibcus is a rookie. Gibcus getting sick last week was fairly predictable. Rookies just don't have the stamina to cope with the workload of a long year.
why not both? just drop tarrant. what do we have to lose?I'd be playing Miller ahead of Gibcus for at least the next few weeks. I'd play Gibcus fwd this week.Wouldnt mind either of Miller or Gibcus play a full game up foward
Our chance at a finals spot! Tarrant is a lock for the rest of the season. I'd like to see him paired with Miller, with Gibcus to play as a third tall against bigger teams (e.g. Port Adelaide), up forward in the absence of Lynch or off the bench as a 50% TOG player.why not both? just drop tarrant. what do we have to lose?
Whats the point in scraping into finals and getting slaughtered week 1. We aren't a developing team where making finals is progression, we're an old team on the way down. We don't need to deliberately cut players like Grimes to bottom out, but we shouldn't be playing short term top ups like Tarrant over the next gen.Our chance at a finals spot! I agree with most of this, except I'd give him a 2 year deal and reassess final year of contract. He's not a player where we need to stave off multiple offers, so 2 year extension should be enough. I think he's shown enough signs, and as a depth KPD he has done enough to be worth keeping on. He's cheap, he's done a solid job, is performing at VFL, is young, good size, and if he can add KPF depth and versatility to his game, he becomes that little bit more valuable too.Ben Miller is 22 yo. He has another 8 or 9 years left. Hes done a good job for someone whose had limited opportunities. I would re-sign for another 3. He'll do a good job most weeks for not much stress on our salary cap. Definate Keep.
I reckon the club has the mentality that if we can scrape into finals, and get something close to our best 22 fit in September, that the H&A season won't matter and we are capable of winning 4 in a row and taking it all.Whats the point in scraping into finals and getting slaughtered week 1. It's unlikely, but it's our best shot. This is the final year that would be the case, and it would be dependent on Martin, Bolton, Balta, Lynch, Grimes, Vlastuin, Prestia, Nankervis, Baker, Rioli, Riewoldt, Short all healthy in September. We can cover injured depth players, but we need the key core fit and healthy.
Maybe that's worth one crack at glory? And if we miss, then 2023 becomes a focus on the kids and Tarrant is no longer required, we go with Gibcus/Balta/Miller/Grimes instead of Tarrant.
Problem is the way the last 18 months have gone, we just won't have our best 22 match fit and available at the same time unfortunately.100%
If we can make finals and field our best 22, there is not a single team that would be happy to play us and that we couldn’t beat on our best day.
