They actually did that in the WTC final against India, after Starc bowled pies and went for 5 an over in the first innings, Boland and Cummins got the new ball in the second.

Starc still went for 5 an over and was unthreatening bowling first change whilst Boland picked up 3 wickets.

Agreed but Cummins and Boland are the most likely to build pressure from ball one when the game is on the line. Starc has form releasing the pressure like he has yet again today.

Like I said, assessing the game on the run is what separates the good captains from the elite.
