Agree I found it strange him telling the national selectors he was not yet up to Tests, given how much cricket he has missed. Perhaps he will replace the skipper in Sri Lanka, otherwise prob will play white ball .

I think it was more that it was a surprise to be added to the test squad given they’ve been restricting him so much. Definitely fit and ready to go, if called upon.

Again, you HAVE to use Starc at some stage. That’s a non-negotiable. He’s a frontline bowler. You can’t not bowl him. So bowl him when he’s most useful, when the ball swings.

So open with Boland and Starc, and bowl Cummins first change like he’s always bowled.

Agreed but Cummins and Boland are the most likely to build pressure from ball one when the game is on the line. Starc has form releasing the pressure like he has yet again today.

Like I said, assessing the game on the run is what separates the good captains from the elite.

If you're not bowling well first up, I'd rather see another player like Boland get the chance to put the opposition under immediate pressure compared with Starc allowing them to get off to a fast start

And Boland's wicket justifies the idea he should have been the new ball option
