Tasmanian's have generally held out little hope for a state team over the years, so allegiances to other teams are heavily ingrained.

I suspect the fan base will have to grow from the younger generation, assuming the older supporters don't suddenly change allegiance.

But, as you say, nothing to do with politics and opportunity in the State.

You are assuming an either/or scenario and overlooking the fact that the older supporters could continue to support their existing side AND support a Tassie side. The only conflict would be when the two sides play each other.

As one example of how this would play out - these aren't the days of the old VFL, where all games were played at 2.10pm on a Saturday. So Tasmanians could go and watch the Tassie side live and also, for the most part, be able to watch their existing side on TV.
