Now that's a fair point, at the moment there isn't a lot of obvious delists in 2022 either. Just Frampton and Himmelberg.

Seedsman has already been extended, you'd think Tex would get one more as well to pad it out. Mind you, there isn't a lot of obvious delists this year either.
Isn't Billy contracted for next year?

That's not an easy delist $$$$'s wise.

Yup, Frampton and 'Berg are both out of contract in 2022. They're probably the only easy delists that year, looking at our out of contract list. Hinge maybe, if he gets wiped out by another injury.

You'd think both Cat Bs get retained, can see MacKay, Murray and Parnell being retained as rookies too with Strachan and Davis being let go.

Main list wise, you'd think the club would want at least 3 picks at the draft, maybe 4 if we decide to bring someone in through trade (Stephens?).

Of the senior players I'd say Lynch is the least safe, Tex a near certain re-sign and Talia a big ?? Kelly is safe unless he wants out being a regular in the 22. Wonder if the club might consider doing the old delist and re-rookie with a couple of guys to make room or maybe try to encourage someone like Himmelberg to look elsewhere.

UNCONTRACTED SENIORS - RETAINED
Taylor Walker
Matthew Crouch
Jake Kelly

UNCONTRACTED SENIORS - RELEASED
Daniel Talia
Tom Lynch

UNCONTRACTED SENIORS - TO ROOKIE LIST
Ronin O'Connor
Lachlan Gollant

UNCONTRACTED ROOKIES - RETAINED
Kieran Strachan
Nick Murray
Patrick Parnell
James Borlase (Cat B)
Tariek Newchurch (Cat B)

UNCONTRACTED ROOKIES - RELEASED
Ben Davis
David Mackay

TRADES
Elliot Himmelburg

This gives us five list spots, unless lists go back to 46, and we would have 7.

I'm not sure this is enough?

We would at least want two draftees plus the two NGAs, plus Stephens and Dawson?

Is there any truth to Dawson? Or Coleman-Jones?

McPherson has gone backwards. Seeming very Kelly from last year like. Curious what Davis could do in McPherson's role.

McPherson has played 20 games. The last thing we should do is give up on him in his 2nd year.

I've not heard any real word that associated CCJ with us, though I had been hopeful. He'll go somewhere where he can be first ruck, surely.

Dawson has been pretty widely and publicly rumoured, so he must be at least a good chance.

Think strachan will be safe as he has really come on this year and i could see him being servicable at AFL level. I would be suggesting to himmelberg that he see if he can get a deal.with another club and we would be happy to take a lower pick to help facilitate. Lynch is a conundrun..can still play well when fit but we need to be using that spot in best 22 to keep blooding the youngsters.

M crouch might be the other one IF he decides to take up RFA then we could gain an extra spot...but we would lose a pretty good player at tge same time with plenty of years left at AFL level

If I'm not mistaken, getting a player to the rookie list could be risky as you can't just move the player there - you have to delist them and then pick them up in the rookie draft.

This is all well and good if you're doing this with a veteran player - and clubs may have some sort of gentlemen's agreement not to poach one another doing this - but if Gollant (and ROC, I guess) is starting to show promise, that agreement might be out the window.

You were allowed to automatically move them last year - no word yet on whether this is being extended, but you'd have to think it's reasonably likely.

Ok, so motivation has been lacking today at work so decided to do a quick analysis of the playing list, looking to 2022.

There are five players that I would put up for trade bait with four others advised to explore FA.

Trade Bait
Luke Brown - think we can cover him, however not sure if there would be much interest from other clubs.
Billy Frampton - again not sure if much interest elsewhere, but would be putting his name out there as a sweetener to getting something on the trade table
Elliott Himmelberg - I think this guy is worth something on the trade table, and is now a long way back in the pack
Andrew McPherson - has gone backwards this year, and with others coming through, I think Moose could attract interest elsewhere
Kieran Strachan - I think this guy will attract interest as big man who can step into the ruck at ALF level are hard to find these days
*Caveat - would trade only one of Frampton/Strachan
Free Agent - leave
Daniel Talia - Thanks Dan, but happy to see you leave if you want
Jake Kelly - as above, think he is holding back the development of the next batch of defenders
Matt Crouch - take the compo!
Tom Lynch - think Tommy is a delist/retire situation
Delist
Ben Davis - had so long on the list and can't crack the AFL team. it's time to call it.
Bryce Gibbs - Self-explanatory
David MacKay - Surely it is time, isn't it??
Tyson Stengle - Self-explanatory

Surely CCJ is gettable if he is still yet to re-sign and Reiwolt is going on for another year. I'm sure he would prefer to stay at Richmond but if we throw enough $$$ at him it would be hard to say no. He would cost more than a junk pick so I guess crows wouldn't be interested.

I could certainly envision a scenario where we try to split our 1st rounder, for example trade what is currently pick 7 (1,644 points) to Hawthorn for what they currently have at 21 and 22 (1723) and then offer up one or both picks for CCJ and Stephens for example. Depends on how they rate the draft though, I don't know at this point if there's anyone at 7 for example that is a must have over potentially getting CCJ and Stephens or if they want to trade out picks from next year either. But that would leave our INS as

CCJ
Stephens
Pick 26
Pick 37

Maybe let M.Crouch go for another pick, trade Himmelberg for a future pick, maybe bump Gollant down to the rookie list, make Lynch a development SANFL player/coach, few other changes and you're good.

Gee, it would leave me feeling pretty flat if Talia never pulls on the jumper again.

Really hoping he gets his body right.

Problem is deal
More rumours about Francis coming back to Adelaide to play next year after his most recent mental health issue. Not sure where he'd fit in currently though.
Problem is dealing with Dororo. Most clubs would give him up for a pick in the forty’s or fifty’s, he will want a second rounder. He ain’t worth that to us in this rebuild
