News AFL Investigates Adelaide Crows' alleged training breach in Barossa

I do think that if 16 blokes kicking a footy together is a legitimate public health concern, then the 2020 season shouldn't happen at all

Good job ignoring what I was saying to try & pretend that your club did nothing wrong.

What I'm saying is the Crows demonstrated the club is unable to follow self-isolation rules last week (Let's not get into a 'did SAPOL or did they not allow it' because it's obvious the players shouldn't have been doing what they were doing or they'd still be doing it) and now this week the SA government has said that the clubs won't get exemptions for the players to fly in/fly out.

It's pretty clear that the actions of one impacted the decision of the other.

never said they didn't do anything wrong

only consistent thing i've said in this thread is that 1) draft pick sanctions would have been ridiculous overreaction
2) if it was a breach of public safety, then the idea of a season is completely stupid

3) it's pretty arrogant of the AFL industry to expect exemptions not afforded to the rest of us anyway

The AFL have always been arrogant and think that everyday laws that apply to Joe Public don't apply to them.

Does anyone else think that the SA government decision to not provide the SA clubs an exemption at the moment been negatively impacted by this experience?

Yes and this is the exact thing I was going on about earlier in this thread. It wasn't about a few blokes kicking a footy, it was about a club showing they can't be trusted to follow basic state and AFL protocols which may be put in place to get the competition running.

"As reported on Fox Footy Live on Monday evening, at least part of the reason AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan was so furious last Thursday following the Crows’ breach of protocols was because earlier that day he had been in discussions with the South Australian government.

It’s understood McLachlan felt as if he was making headway, only for Adelaide’s error to put the league back a few days."

There is a precedent for exemptions to be made (as that's what Queensland has allowed with professional athletes being able to fly in/fly out).

But now the AFL competition can't resume because of the current location of 4 clubs. This is the major block stopping the competition from resuming. Once either SA/WA allow for players to fly in/fly out or those four clubs relocate the competition can move forward.

the AFL cant resume because of a global pandemic and the nature of aussie rules being a full contact sport with 36 players on the field

According to who?? Who is restricting the AFL to resume?

jesus christ

anyway i actually legitimately hope the season is cancelled - watching those round 1 games absolutely sucked with no crowd or atmosphere - it was quite an interesting realisation how important the crowd actually is

Even for the Adelaide game? I can understand getting bored for other games but I was still interested in the Carlton game - and thats the point of the games, for the club's involved fans

So the AFL can't resume because radiojake doesn't like hot the game looks without a crowd??

f*n lol yeah it's Crows fault

Never mind WA premier who wont let a FIFO happen in that state either

This season is a mess just give it up already
Why the hell are Richmond supporters so involved in this. Why? Do they have nothing else in their lives to do. Get on with your own business and probably majority of protesters in vic were Richmond supporters. Get a life. Really ! It’s done move on ! I would laugh if a Richmond player gets done breaking guidelines now. It will happen to someone from a afl team. I wonder what their and vic media response would be then ! You do know u were flogs for decades. And in 3 years of good football you supporters just forget how crap you really have been for all those decades. Really we have had a gut full of the Richmond supporters get a life and step off ( a cliff )

... you know Richmond has broken a supporter base after the 2017 GF when a thread about the Crows players doing the wrong thing becomes a whinge against the Richmond FC.

Not a whinge. Just annoying that your group is such a bunch of morons. Did Adelaide supporters weigh in on the bulldog incident whinging how bad it is and how it looks for game bla bla bla no. Not our issue couldn’t give two rats about another club. But appears Richmond supporters do. I think you supporters are the only wingers frankly ! Flogging on about draft sanctions etc then flogging on about sanctions too light That my friend is whinging. You Richmond supporters are the whingers ok enough said crawl back into your hole that you have been in for decades !

Highly doubtful given they only broke the petty AFL rule (also not sure how you explain WA then). I’d say the AFL thought they could bully SA and WA into providing exemptions to states like Victoria, when your state is experiencing the worst outbreak in our country right now.

Can’t help but think this has been a major factor in SA’s decision today. With that in mind I have no issue with Adelaide being forced to relocate indefinitely if they wish to take part in season 2020, but that’s not fair on Port who have no involvement.
What about WA? NT don’t have a team but sure as hell won’t be opening their borders for a while either.

I don’t think some of you posting in here realise that the ridiculous Cedar Meats outbreak in Victoria, that could’ve been prevented if they had locked down the place on April 22 after a 2nd case in a month, has changed the thinking of states west of your border. Until your state is on top of that our borders won’t open.

So Salty! Much Melt!

I’m interested in this situation because I was Footy back—- the SA government is currently making it difficult for that to happen, only a week after a bunch of Crows players broke the rules.

That’s the thread topic—- not you’re irrational hatred for the Richmond FC.

Do you think WA is part of another country?

People can blame whoever they want. It ignores the reality that we are in the middle of a ****ing pandemic due to a virus humans have never had to deal with before.

Being able to get back footy in a fast and efficient manner while there’s still so much wrong in the country was always going to be a difficult task. Health is always going to come before a form of entertainment.

At one stage it was a pipe dream to even have it back by August, so I’m not sure why some are so surprised there are obstacles when they’re talking a full 2 months before that now.

.... classic deflection??

It’s not our fault—-because look, WA!!

There’s four clubs currently delaying the AFL announcement. One state that housed two of those clubs made an announcement tonight that its not given the AFL the same exemption in SA as it does in NSW, VIC & QLD.

The WA clubs have already said they are prepared to go into alternative training bases—- can the Crows & Port now just agree so we can get an announcement & Start training.

Our fault? This is a form of entertainment, not all governments are going to pander to that if they see it as a risk to public health. What makes you think the SA clubs aren’t prepared to move into GC hubs as well? The decision from our state government literally came a couple of hours ago. A very good source has suggested SA clubs are already looking into basing themselves on the GC (with families I presume).

The reason our states are choosing Qld over Vic is due to the recent outbreaks of the virus, until your state gets on top of that they will be hesitant.

Remind me why the SA government sees flying players in & out a public health risk??

Because 16 Crows players were unable to follow self-isolation requirements. Yes-- I've read your many posts about how they "didn't break self-isolation" requirements; but if they didn't break any rules they would still be doing what they were doing and not now following isolation protocols.
