I'll go out on a limb here but I'd drop Seeds or Russell or Johnno and bring in Frosty....and then give the boy first crack at Buddy. Any signs that the hawks are trying to isolate Frosty down in the square and then I'd put Reid back. But I think Frosty is the man to ice the Budmeister!
Don't like the thought of Marty Clark on Mitchell either. Better Taggers than Marty have tried to curb Mitchell in the past (think Ling, Carrazzo) Mitchell is a ball magnet and he's so much "smarter" around the ground than Marty. Heater is more the Mitchell tag if we can spare him from our defence.

Elliot will get a lot moe attention this week. This is where we need a goldsack or Caf to step up with a few goals. Cloke will be their biggest worry and with the big Q playing well in the first 2 weeks they can't afford to ignore him like they might have done with Dawes. So that's 3 marking forwards to worry about so Caf and Sack could fly under the radar just like Lewis did on shaw last year I think. I like the idea of Paine coming in but I wouldn't want to go to top heavy. Loving our chances even with the players that are missing.

Buckley has completely resisted any temptation to play players that haven't had a full pre-season or have a niggle, which has stood us in great stead in both games with early subs. He has also used horses for courses with a tall defence v North.
Jolly won't play, and I doubt Fasolo will earn a call up until at least one more game in the VFL. Frost very likley to come in for one match and not play the following week v Richmond. For me:

Jolly out, Hudson in.
Seedsman out, Thomas in.
Frost for Johnson / Russell a maybe.

For me, this leaves Caf as the sub which I don't think works well, but I doubt any more than three changes to a winning team, so maybe it's his turn.

I love the earlier call of Daisy on Rioli too. Has the skills and speed to take him, and keeps him honest by running off him. Can't see it happening, but with the talent in the forwards and mids, the skill gap in the backline might be closed by an interesting role change. Wonder if Dwyer could do the same with decent speed and good one on one skills when Fas, Dids and Krak come knocking?

Jolly wont play IMO, we have the Hawks this week (Huddo should get the nod), then a 6 day break for the Tigers game (Witts to get the nod) then a 5 day break for Anzac day (Jolly to get the nod), just IMO of course.

Jolly won't play, no need to stretch him so early in the season.

On the chopping block in order;
MacCaffer (not getting it or putting pressure on)
Seedsman (couldn't even run out the game with reduced match time)
Sinclair (finishing poorly and still big patches where he is unsighted)

So I think Caf and Seeds will drop out for Thomas and Fasolo, and I'm hoping Witts gets a run.

I definitely agree with Reid on buddy. Thought he was superb early on Sunday. Actually gave him 4 votes while drunk. May have to watch replay.

Mitchell is the key and to be honest i have no idea how to stop him. Over to you bucks!

Also after the blues quick small forwards carved us up, who goes to rioli? Not confident with tooves on him. I reckon tooves goes to someone like breust.

Changes are Hudson, d Thomas, snowy for jolly, seedsman and Russell/Bj

There's no way Witts would make his AFL debut against Maric. I'd expect Hudson to play the next 2 weeks and would be very surprised otherwise.

IMO Goldsack is our best match-up for Buddy. He has the reach, height, pace and endurance to go with him.

N.Brown to take Roughy, Reid to Hale/Gunston

Breust and Rioli will be tough to stop, Toovey gets one perhaps H.Shaw/Russell the other.

Sinclair will play, 14 disposals, 2 goals and 5 tackles is not a performance that gets you dropped, especially with no match fit players to replace him with, at least in the role.

Daisy is a like for like replacement of Seedsman who had 4 effective disposals, that seems like a no brainer.

Macaffer has been average, I would play him as the sub.

If Caff plays as the sub that will be a kick in the guts to a lot of supercoach teams including mine. I certainly hope Bucks doesn't go ahead with this plan...

Out: Jolly, Caff
In: Hudson, Thomas

Thomas to play forward in Caff's role but with speed -very dangerous. Maxy to take third tall in backline. Think Sinclair is doing an excellent job at the moment (yes, could still finish better). Would give Seeds another go but gone if has another poor one. Goldsack can go back if required during the game.

Might be a good chance to see where he's at, we have the Tigers covered in terms of winning the game.

Give jolly a week at least to recover, seedsman needs a week in the vfl to fix whatever is wrong with him. THomas and hudson the obvious inclusions.
Don't see why everyone wants Frost in, I wanted him to play against roos for match ups, the reality is against hawks there isn't a matchup as guns ton won't play and when hale is down there Franklin is in the midfield or bench.
Give caff one more week, if no improvement let fasolo play against the tiges.
Marty, sinks and dwyer all deserve to stay!
Please dear god play tooves on rioli not harry, don't know why that mistake is made every year.

one last thing, every year people (on this forum) have blair and goldsack out of their best 22 and it confuses me. They are both easily in it.

I think this is a good point. I've been guilty of under-rating the Midas Crotch, even after last yrs very good season up fwd, great pressure plus a goal a game, 24 i think. I still wondered if he'd be in the best 22 this year. He's been fantastic & as Bucks said, it's his position to lose.

Blair, little Mighty Mouse, love him & never understood the question marks. I think last season the coaching panel would've had him as "one of the first picked" type players.

As a side note what was the name of the other shortarse who tied with him for the Morrish?
Is he on a list or playing anywhere of note?

Goldsack in theory seems a good match up, but does he have the football smarts and ability to combat the talent that is Franklin? He did play on him briefly several years ago, after others had failed, and didn't seem any worse than our taller defenders.

Otherwise, largely because Buddy has beaten Brown and Reid before, I'd give the job to Jack Frost. Someone else can be assigned to pick him up in the middle. Reid is better assigned to kicking duties rather than close checking of Buddy.

There doesn't seem to be anyone else except perhaps Keeffe capable of playing on Buddy. In the circumstances, only Goldsack and Frost have much chance of holding Franklin.

Farran Priest 2008 according to Wikipedia. I think he is living up Echuca way and playing in the Murray Valley FL.

Got to say I think the Collingwood board is one of the best on here. I always enjoy reading the previews when you play the Hawks as there are insightful posts and well as most being respectful (not sure if this is the same when you play other teams however) Keep up the good work and let's hope for no injuries, suspensions on Sunday and a great clash. May the best team win!!

I will be at the game with my next door neighbour, who supports Hawthorn. It is a ritual that we observe. Being respectful to Hawthorn comes naturally because their team is arguably the best of any we play. It is a game to which I look forward as it is very much a measure of where we are at with our football.

Yeah gotta agree, love lurking on the pies board. Looking forward to Dave's preview.

You guys seem to be a bit like us in 2011, when we had 4-5 players come in and get regular game time, and to be 2-0 is a good start. Hopefully a good tough game this weekend, we have played some crackers over the last few years.

I just read that Sewell is out this weekend this is very good news for the Pies as we have had a few problems containing both he and Mitchell,Sewell make a big difference to their midfield.

Mitchell has been playing a very interesting role so far this season. Seems to be floating more across half back and just using his footy brains to set the play up. Then of course he goes onto the ball when needed.

Therefore, he might find himself on a guy like Macaffer.

Either way, Mitchell has been a thorn in our side for a long time now and is just about untaggable around stoppages. COnsidering we have no genuine tagger, I think we will run a number of players through him and try to get him offensively. Having no Sewell is a huge help.

Sewell will be a big out. He is one of the most under rated midfielders going around. He is the workhorse that clears the path for the silkier players we have. He has been very valuab;e with the ruck stocks we have had because of his ability to win the ugly ball in the stopages. We will likely bring in Simpkin to take his place which will give us less bullocking but slightly better use by foot and more pace (by quite some way). He may not be the direct replacement for Sewell though. He might relieve Lewis' position and allow Lewis to go through into the guts.

We rate Sewell. Ball plays the exact same role in our side and we've really felt his loss in the midfield since he went down.
