Smedts Stringer Guthrie West and Brown very disappointing..

Our dependable players stood up when it counted, we all know who they are..

Josh Hunt has played 2 full games now and been in our best for both.. So much for not being in our best 22 eh..

Thank God siren sound, so stressful ... If they did that to Brisbane at Round 13 we might get beaten ...
Really? My brother walked in during the first quarter and said "we're down 5 goals"
I just shrugged and said "yeah ok"

What team have you guys been watching for 7 years?
It was never in doubt.

I think posts like this show a complete lack of respect to the opponent.
And there are posts in the game day thread complaining of the players not showing respect to the opponent!
Incredible.

Well thats fine. If you think Im showing a complete lack of respect for our opponent , I'm following the trend from our team. They are the ones that turned up like there were for a day at the beach.
GWS put a fine effort in. Geelong should have been 3-4 goals better a quarter than that side.

i agree josh has been good last two weeks, i just always get a bit fearful when he lines up on a quick small like betts or krakour, GC and GWS dont really have that player so he has been able to run off a bit and help others out and has looked fantastic.

Sydney, Hawthorn, Freo wont let us kick ten goals in the last quarter to beat them in the finals. Danger signs at the cattery remain. Not a win to be proud about today.

Understand what you're saying, but they oft rock up not ready to play against lesser teams.

They would not have usually put that sort of first half effort in against a better team, ergo, would unlikely play the way they did today against one of the teams you mention.

I wouldn't discount Geelong's ability to kick 10 goals against anyone in a burst at any stage of the year either.

VC , we are not talking about who will win. We all knew the win was 99% certain.5 goals down V a team that has lost the past 18 quarter , a team that has not won a match this year. Rubbish prep followed by rubbish play

Opposition are playing us one on one more often to counter our structures.

Generally we get found out a little early via this style, but just kill teams later when they are no longer able to sustain high intensity footy. Has happened in every single game this year.

We are crying our for a genuine number 1 ruck to either replace or help West. Vardy will have days like this, but he needs to be able to demonstrate some ruck prowess to secure a position.

GWS played good honest footy and to tell the truth probably pulled off 4-5 goals from great snaps that any other day would have been behinds.

Mitch Brown really did not do enough in defensive strucuture and exposed Lonergan more than Scott would be comfortable with.

On the plus side, Josh Hunt continues to show why he is integral to our defensive unit. Going to be tough to dislodge from a best 22 position.

Must say, I am waiting and waiting for Hawk to get that mobility and spring back, but it seems to be awhile away. Surely a few weeks off would do him wonders.

Push him up around the center in the finals he's our Stewie Dew.I'll shrink that for those who are still sensitive.

Yep, not a convincing win at all.

We overwhelmed a bunch of overwhelmed fed kids and bullied them when they ran out of puff. Before that, we struggled to match them.

We dish that up against the Hawks, Sydney etc and we'll be the ones getting spanked.

I think some people expect AFL footballers to be robots.

This isn't an elimination sport.
Send Taylor and Kersten to WA for a holiday etc.
Plenty of players will switch off.

I know I would.
Partridge will spend the next two days going berserk on that effort.
And if we get bundled out of the finals he'll use it as ammo for the next 10 years.

But you know what? all they needed was another 4 points today.

Our fight starts in 3 months, not today.
That's 12 games and 50 training sessions away.

Be happy with where we are, and hope the club tightens up over the run home are my thoughts

it took two concussions in the last 15 mins of the game for our team to find some spark and it electrified Selwood and they kicked right into gear.

Strange

Thankfully GWS ran out of steam.:thumbsu:

They always do.

A shocking performance. Our players are acutely aware that they haven't won four quarters of a game this year. That should have been their primary focus and they fell at the first hurdle. If one player summed the attitude/effort up for me, it was Smedts. His first game back from the VFL (absolutely no excuse for complacency), his man takes a mark on him in the forward pocket in the first quarter and he turns his back on him to stroll back to his mark. By which time, his opponent has casually chipped over to a teammate in a better position who duly goaled. An inexplicable effort from a player who must be squarely on the edge of the best 22.

Good to see the public enemies #1 and #2, Guthrie and Brown, have come in for special attention from our supporters again as the main problems with the team today. Hardly surprising that the same supporters are finding it a bit more difficult to convey exactly what they did that was so terrible.

We are way to reactive... we haven't gone out and set an agenda for over a year imo, it is a problem and down to the players/coaches mind set.

Having said that, it is a pretty good thing to be practicing. Regardless of the quality of team we play, the team settles, adjusts and begins to apply themselves. If we can tailor our game to have both qualities, setting an agenda and being able to adjust/counter an opposition it will go a long way.

Selwood won us the game in the last quarter for me. I was concerned when Johnson and Bundy went off, but Selwood set the standard with the next contest. Hopefully it continues.

Pods showed how powerful he can be, was marking everything! Hawkins is a worry, and our whole forward set up baffles me at time, with both key forwards pushing up leaving no one in the goal square. Would rather we leave Hawkins one out at FF.

Guthrie played an awesome game also, very assured. Gave some rebound whilst playing tight defensively, learning from Enright no doubt.

Oh and Hunt is back to his best. That kick is a weapon. Having him kick out from the goal square does wonders for the team. So much better having him than a Bartel (who I'd rather playing over the ground).

Happy to see Brown given the oppurtunity to run the game out, did some great things and 1%ers. I say leave him in the team as long as possible, and that talent with come out. Needs confidence and direction... a real step forward today.

And lastly.....CLEARANCES!!! GWS were darn effective at kicking quick replying goals straight from clearances. The only way our clearances problem does not become influential is if we don't allow teams to score from them as easy as today.

Push him up around the center in the finals he's our Stewie Dew.

That has long been the aspect of Hunt's game that has frustrated me the most, in that for all his supposed monster precision kicking he has been unreliable when playing forward. This year so far though he has been very good for 2 games on the back of no real preseason. Hopefully Scott allows him to go forward frequently because those kinds of kicks from 55-60 out can really break an opponent's spirit when they are trying to crowd inside 50 for the Hawkins/Pods intercept.
