Caff to go to the backline!

Bucks has confirmed it!

Great move

I like this move. He is tall, quick and good one on one. He could be a handy left field back pocket option. He was in defense last week at times but more across the flank.

My first preference has been for him to play in the midfield (in the preseason and/or VFL) as a big bullocking type who can provide some defensive cover or become a midfield tagger while Ball's out, but that train's already left the station.

Still, a defender is not a bad idea especially since Toovey is out and Russell out of form. Wouldn't be putting him on the slippery small forwards, but he's the kind of player that would match up well on the medium/third talls and resting midfielder types IMO. Restrict their effectiveness and get some good rebound going too. The result is possibly a Sean Dempster type defender, though obviously I doubt he will reach the same output Dempster did last year.

Still think Daisy would be the perfect replacement for Toovey as a small defender roughly same height and weight with better skills in the air and on the ground. wins one on ones in the forward line more regularly then not so whats to stop him beating small defenders eg. Milne ?

Quicky, I know you take a great interest in Caff, how did you assess his game Anzac day? I couldn't bring myself to watch it again. My recollection from watching live only; his ball handling was a bit off, not one touch and may have resulted in a scoring shot ot two.
Also, was he a touch better when the game slowed a fraction, perhaps he is still adjusting to the tempo?
I actually wouldnt mind him worked through the mid field for short periods, big frame could be useful is he has the touch and vision ( and tank ).

I think it's a good option because of his ball retention. He doesn't have the best skills, but what he does do is pick the right option and puts it to their advantage. We desperately need another good distributed in the back half!

I disagree in terms of pace which is my only concern with the move. He's not slow, but he may struggle to find a match up each week if Russell stays in the side because they are suited to similar types of forwards.

Given that Buckley has stated that there will be opportunities for places, I would hope that there are at least 4 changes to the team.
Out: Sinclair, Fasolo, Toovey (inj), Hudson (rest)
In: Jolly, Johnson, Didak, Krak or Kennedy.
If the first two are not outs, I will be very disappointed in Buckley and the selection committee.

To be honest I wasn't really being my usual analytical self at the footy. I was sat 1st level in the middle of Essendon reserve seating and enjoying the banter. It was fun being the only Collingwood supporter in the area that wasn't in standing room.

I agree that his one touch play has been off a bit so far this season which has always been a feature. And when he doesn't win the most possessions he really needs to make them count. It seems a no brainer to me to try him back. We need to accommodate Krakouer or Didak to improve our finishing and we need a small defender now Tooves is gone for the year. I'd be willing to back in a long term experiment. My only question would be is Goldsack the better option?

As for midfield I'd prefer to see Martin although I take the argument about a bigger body. I like the idea of Caff as a tagger too.

His neat skills are another tick. I guess with the forwards with blistering pace he may struggle but no one on our list bar Tooves, Mooney and Sinclair have that toe. He'd go with most players.

Who do we put on the most dangerous small now Tooves is gone? Do we shuffle defense and put Shaw on them? Trust Russell? I wouldn't, he is only just coping in the role he is in. Do we try Macaffer or Goldsack? Or back in the experience of Johnson? We have options but none are perfect.

Maxwell was 6 weeks last week, now hes a chance to return this week????
Beams has been 2 weeks for 4 weeks:(

I wasn't discussing him as an option this week but longer term definitely. If it were a choice this week for someone to man Darling or Crameri and assuming we have another key forward and ruck to look after I'd actually probably bring in Frost.

I agree with the outs but slightly different 'ins'

Out: Sinclair, Fasolo, Toovey (inj), Hudson (rest)
In: Jolly, Marley, Krak & J. Thomas

Krak to be the Sub.

I think we give the Fas just one more full game before putting him back to the two's. I know he had a schocker against Essendon but with our injuries we can't afford to make too many unforced changes and Fasolo is still getting back match fitness. He's proven worthy in the past I just think relegating him after returning from injury and playing 3 games in 11 or 12 days is a bit harsh.

Now that I have had a chance to digest Tarks' review I reckon we need to bring in Didak and Krak for Sinclair and Fasolo. Both Sinclair and Fasolo had TERRIBLE games as small forwards at AFL level, while both Krak and Dids are PROVEN small forwards who have both got a solid month of VFL footy into their legs.

Jolly went back to VFL and proved his ribs aren't sore, kicked 3 goals, got 40 hitouts and 17 posessions. If he is our number one ruck then he should come back.

That just leaves Toovey's replacement. If you where going to bring in a defender then the obvious option would be Williams, he had a good game, and the Saints have a lot of small forwards to mind. That would also leave another week for Ball to lead Martin, J.Thomas and Kennedy as the on ball division at the feet of Husdon and Witts. I would like to see that.

FB: Shaw Brown Macaffer
HB: Russell Reid Clarke

C: Thomas Swan O'Brien

HF: Didak Lynch Dwyer
FF: Elliot Cloke Krakoeur

R: Jolly Rusty Pendles

INT:
Blair
Goldsack
Williams

SUB:
Seedsman

IN:
Jolly
Williams
Didak
Krakoeur

OUT:
Hudson
Toovey
Fasolo
Sinclair

I would also stick Ramsay on the LTI and promote Martin. He is playing footy that deserves recognition.

I would reward all three of the junior mids with an emergancy listing.

EMG:
Kennedy
J.Thomas
Martin

(I know I have posted about a half dozen lineups for this weeks game, its just so much fun to think about is all)

Sounds to me that Krakouer is being put through a lot of hoops at the moment, so may not play. Another fine week against good opposition may work for him.

I really am struggling this week to name the ins and outs, besides the injuries. I'd like to see Martin elevated, but sounds like Oxley is putting in a good show as well. There's a spot post Toovey knee, but there is a spot as well post Ramsay is there not?

FB: Shaw - Brown - O'Brien
HB: Russell - Reid - Seedsman
C: Clarke - Swan - Sidebottom
HF: Goldsack - Lynch - Thomas
FF: Elliot - Cloke - Fasolo
Foll: Blair - Jolly - Pendlebury

Int: Martin - Dwyer - Macaffer Sub: Kennedy

Out: Hudson, Toovey, Sinclair
In: Jolly, Martin, Kennedy

Several players on thin ice, like Fasolo, Seedsman and Macaffer.

Good write up, as usual, Joe.

My only point of difference with you is that I think the mids badly need another clearance option until Bally is ready. Martin or J.Thomas are the obvious names. Though Krak has been playing as a full-time mid in the VFL lately, Bucks seemed to choose his words very carefully when speaking about him this week, so unless I'm reading too much into it, he still has something to prove.

If that's right, I'd think/hope J.Thomas or Martin [Tooves to LTI ] replaces Krak or Dids in your preferred lineup.
