One thing I'm confused with in regards to the website - is it club controlled or does the AFL have an element of control over sections of it?

One positive though - at least we've got the newbies names on the team page. As per the AFLW app, this is part of our team:

ah - I’m not sure!
They’ve still got Rocky in the hoops …

Great little interview with Georgie Prespakis by Phoebe McWilliams; there was a bit of ominous noise surrounding 'Pres' prior to Geelong selecting her in the draft that she was a potential flight risk but she seems very settled and confident in her new environment - you can see what a natural talent she is in the little bits of training footage with her ability to use both sides of her body comfortably, and the way she traps the ball when it's on the deck.

Yeah, I'm surprised we didn't snap her up. Hitting the scoreboard was kind of an issue last season. (Though to be fair, we had issues all over the ground.)
Poppy can kick very good goals snaps rovers the pack, i think it was just her size why she never got drafted, that's the only reason i can see why she did not get picked

Saw that; was gonna bring up Steve Johnson too - that across-the-body technique.

What are Kearns' chances of playing a senior game this upcoming season do ya reckon?
I'd hope she gets an opportunity - the AFLW season operates somewhat different to the AFL, so it's not like we can really bring out a player to develop her in the VFLW, so surely when looking at an Irish recruit it's with the intentions of them actually playing

Interesting; my guess is that she'll struggle to crack the 21 but now I'm thinking again - looks a real prospect no doubt at all, especially in terms of her athleticism and vigour.

But while that footage of her kicking w/Tuohy was very encouraging she is still up against it imo ...

Well here's some cause for optimism.

Irish players in club B&F counts
  • Sarah Rowe (Coll): 5th in 2019 (1st season)
  • Aileen Gilroy (NM): 5th in 2020 (1st season), 8th in 2021
  • Cora Staunton (GWS): 6th in 2018 (1st season), =2nd in 2019, 7th in 2020, 3rd in 2021
  • Yvonne Bonner (GWS): 7th in 2019 (1st season)
  • Niamh Kelly (WC): =8th in 2020 (1st season), =4th in 2021
  • Aisling McCarthy (WB/WC): 11th in 2019 (1st season), 4th in 2020, 2nd in 2021 (missed 2 games)
  • Orla O'Dwyer (BL): 2nd in 2021 (2nd season)
  • Grace Kelly (WC): =4th in 2021 (2nd season)
  • Aishling Sheridan (Coll): 8th in 2021 (2nd season)
Note those players performed well for an even spread of teams in terms of strength--a mix of contenders (including a premiership winner), mid-ladder and cellar dwellers (including a wooden spooner).

And there's also been a few others who have had unlucky runs with injury. The least common outcome has been a player not cracking a regular game (only 2 or 3 instances of that).

Weighing up all of the above, the most likely outcome in 4-5 months from now is Geelong supporters asking 'why the hell didn't we recruit a/multiple Irish player(s) 3 years ago!'.
