seen her sister at Carlton Drunkcat?
I was spewing we were locked out from drafting Maddie Prespakis in the club's debut AFLW year; she is a dead-set natural, bobs up when her team needs her with all kinds of smart and tough plays.
This was the first full match I've watched Georgie play; previously only seen highlights. She was pretty much BOG (Amy McDonald also very good). Agile and balanced at the stoppages, but wiry-tough too.
If she bolts to Essendon next season then we should be demanding yet another #1 or #2 in the AFLW ND!
Ok, I'm all caught up with the practice match.
The team's work from stoppages looks much-improved.
Richmond won't be a very strong side in 2021/22, but we absolutely thrashed them at the clearances, with plenty of players rotating effectively through the stoppages - though none more effectively than Georgie Prespakis, who must have had a half-dozen plus clean, effective stoppage clearances.
In addition to her clear-headed play in traffic, Prespakis's tackling was relentless, too.
We might only get one single season from her, but she brings serious class to the table.
Rach Kearns' willingness to break opposition tackles is impressive; she was an absolute bulldozer.
Someone needs to tell her the tale of Jim Stynes in the '87 Prelim; she was lucky not to get picked up for encroaching the mark on a couple of occasions.
Still understandably very raw.
4m50s into the 2nd quarter, and Nina is brought down in a tackle very much like the incident that led to her 2nd knee reco. She only played the three quarters yesterday, but while she got to plenty of contests, she was pretty rusty after 2 years in rehab; lots of fumbles. She has done a ton of hard work and looks in incredible shape; the touch will come back to her with more time in the middle.
Bel Johnson is going to be a mainstay in defense this year, she is exactly what we needed back there; reads the play well for someone with so little experience and has the physical attributes to get to and affect contests. Solid skills too. Ambitiously-yet-casually wheeled on to her opposite foot in the last .. sprayed it a little ..
If the dearly departed Olivia Purcell was Daz's girl then I'd like to adopt Laura Gardiner, she is a gem, absolutely love watching her play.
Georgie Rankin dropped a sitter in Richmond's goal square, didn't cost us a goal there and then but Richmond scored a major within the minute. She fumbled badly during a great chain of play in the last quarter, ruining the momentum her team mates had generated. She's got to tidy that stuff up.
Maddy Keryk made a few mistakes down back and looked a little reactive all day, too.
I thought our rucks were shaded by Richmond's but there were reasons to be encouraged by the combination of Fuller, Caris and Darby. Caris got better as the game wore on, she's still young and inexperienced but developing steadily. Fuller was busier earlier in the match, she took a good intercept mark and farmed out a good handball in traffic to a team mate, I liked her strong shepherding best of all though; that's proper ruck nitty gritty.
Steph Williams off a back-flank in the 2nd half was highly entertaining.
Georgia Clarke only seemed to play the last quarter; she looks bigger and stronger every time I see her, I really hope the club settle her into the senior side sooner rather than later; if today's minutes were anything to go by then maybe the club is considering a McWilliams/Gunjaca combination up forward, ahead of Clarke (all three were on the ground for a while).
Emonson steady in her Geelong debut; Scheer rarely sighted. Moloney going along ok until reported in the last, then suddenly she lifted a notch - more of that level of intensity please Darcy.
Young Zali Friswell barely sighted, but was involved with a very classy chain of play in the third quarter, getting involved 3 times to channel the ball up-field fluently.
Amy McDonald still Amy McDonalding - the woman with the ugliest kick in the competition still has unbelievably clean hands; a brilliant shimmy/sidestep in the last quarter gave her a shot at goal which she failed to convert (she'd just blind turned out of trouble a minute or so before that; seriously talented player in some respects)
Reading about the new rules for the next four clubs that are due to come in .... I hope we have heard signed up. What it surprise anyone if Haw or Ess come calling
Do we developing some girls that are long kicks. That get it out past 40 metres and break open the field? Or we still reliant on smaller kicks which narrows our ability to spread?
I'm confident the club would be doing it's utmost to retain Prespakis, and it looks as though the playing group have embraced her - she's got a fair bit of exposure on the club's social media outlets too.
But ultimately if she decides to bolt after one season there's not a lot we can do about it.
My philosophy is to enjoy her play while she's in the hoops - and hope we are adequately compensated if she goes.
As Geelong fans we've all endured some big personnel losses over the years; if we can overcome Gary Ablett going to the Suns or our Captains moving on (Colbert, Graham) then we'll be ok if Georgie Prespakis goes to the Bombers.
She was dominant in our practice match against the Tigers, but I'm guessing that opposition clubs will put a lot more work into her come the proper season.
40 metres seems to be about the limit for a lot of players (and a lot not able to kick that distance) - some of the players we've picked up like Chloe Scheer from Adelaide and Chantel Emonson from Melbourne are both very good kicks - Scheer can thump it, Emonson is very neat. I'd guess we have half a dozen players who could nudge 40m. As for spreading, I think the team's improved fitness will help with that, but maybe not quite in the way that you're hoping for (i.e. kicking the ball long into space).
In regards to Prespakis, this may be something or mean absolutely nothing, but I wouldn't be surprised if she's relocated to Geelong or at least on a part-time basis has moved here
I've seen her around Geelong & suburbs a few times - with teammates & other folk
That could be a good thing if she is spending time here away from her football commitments and that she may not just walk after one season - kinda feel that would be more likely if she was only in Geelong when she had to be
ill give her credit for buying into the club and not pouting about being her when not necessarily her first choice geographically. In regards to Prespakis, this may be something or mean absolutely nothing, but I wouldn't be surprised if she's relocated to Geelong or at least on a part-time basis has moved here

How did we get Chloe Scheer draft trade? they say crows will miss her so she must be good, just wonder how we got a Adelaide girl to Geelong
The trade involved 5 teams & 7 players:How did we get Chloe Scheer draft trade? they say crows will miss her so she must be good, just wonder how we got a Adelaide girl to Geelong
What about Featherstone a early pick, so hope she is close or in the side, like what they say about herDon't mind the look of this team...
B: Chantel Emonson, Maddy McMahon
HB: Jordan Ivey, Meg McDonald, Maddy Keryk
C: Georgie Rankin, Becky Webster, Amy McDonald
HF: Danielle Higgins, Phoebe McWilliams, Chloe Scheer
F: Rachel Kearns, Kate Darby
Foll: Olivia Fuller, Nina Morrison, Georgie Prespakis
I/C: Julia Crockett-Grills, Sophie Van De Heuvel, Annabel Johnson, Darcy Moloney, Olivia Barber
One of the toughest 21s to pick after turning over nearly a third of its list. Recruits Chantel Emonson and Chloe Scheer are walk-up starts, while Nina Morrison offsets the loss of Liv Purcell. Kate Darby – returning after having a baby – slots into the forward role left vacant by Richelle Cranston, while former VFLW Cat Olivia Fuller takes on the retired Aasta O'Connor's ruck role. Top pick Georgie Prespakis fits straight in, with Renee Garing missing due to pregnancy, while Irishwoman Rachel Kearns is set to feature up forward. Georgia Clarke and Laura Gardiner could also be in the mix.
I'm guessing you could put Rene Caris in for Liv Barber if the latter hasn't recovered from her knee injury.
takes guts to be different Fred, you know that!Has the woman got no pride?
What's the odds covid is going to play a big part in this years in W/AFL....like the big bash is now
