The value of the draft picks will not become apparent until a few years time. You can look at the draft prospects and say its a strong or weak draft, but you really dont know until the players establish themselves.
Like the judd trade, it might change over the years. IIRC most were saying we got screwed in the judd trade but with the development of kennedy, most now say we made out like bandits.
And Kennedy (a former top 4 pick taken before Pendlebury and the best KPP of his draft pool) was literally the only thing making the trade anywhere near a success for us.

These late first and second rounders we’re giving up could easily be the Mastens and Nottes of the trade.

Or they could be Yeos/Sloanes/Neales.

You wouldnt be happy trading in Kelly for 30, 31, 32, 33?
No. Look at it from a practical level. If you only fielded 19 players each week and your opposition had 22 players, you would hardly win a game.

Kelly isn't Chris Judd/Ben Cousins/Simon Black etc. He is a good player but not in the elite category.

The highest pick we'll be giving up is likely 14. Maybe lower, with bids etc.

I don't think we're likely to be paying overs, with that in mind.

Either way, if Kelly is strolling around the MCG holding the cup aloft, nobody will care about a lost pick or two anyway.

To be done soon from the looks of it.

Sets the club up for next year, but are paying massive overs in my opinion going from what is being reported.

Going to be a lot of mixed feelings on this.

Yeah, not sure why we are willing to get 33 mixed up in the trade (will have to see what comes back - but for a future second that is not a good deal).

If the cats need it for Steven they can bid for it separately - and pay very slight overs - but for us it is a very valuable pick as it will be our first in the draft and our only pick until the 60's...

Alright good deal guys, thanks for coming to the table, now we ju....oh shit. We have to free up money for Kelly?!? When did this happen?

I don’t buy it.

He wouldn’t know shit about our finances

Honestly people, what’s the point in letting the perceived value of this trade upset you.

I think it’s overs too but it’s silly to let something like this affect you.

Being upset over a watching your team lose, yeah that’s understandable, but getting angry about trade value is so unnecessary

Depends

5 Kellys would probably win out against 20 Nottes, Newmans, Ainsworths etc

BUT WHAT IF OUR RECRUITING TEAM, WHO WE ALL SLAM FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO RECRUIT MIDS, HAD TURNED THOSE MID ROUND PICKS INTO FOUR ELLIOT YEO’S?!?

Agreed, but I want to see what the actual deal turns out being before melting a circuit. At the moment it's just one shitlord 'journo' after another trying to be the first to guess right.

Every other trade period: “Why don’t we ever chase a big fish, we’re too conservative wah wah wah”

This trade period after landing a gun (who addresses our biggest weakness) : “We paid too much wah wah wah”

We've had an offer on the table to Kelly for a year, in that time we have also thrown an offer at Coniglio. Our cap is fine.

Exactly my thoughts

We have had to pay up to get a quality player and I'll cop the deal because our first rounders are weak.

But I was looking at the deal and thinking "how about we just ******* draft him next time". Hopefully it prompts a review of our drafting of mids.
We probably wouldnt have ocsar Allen or Ryan had we drafted Tim. We did well with those 2.

So many TK avatars...

I hope the trade looks something like this:

14 + 2020 1st + 24 + 33 for Kelly + 36 + 57 + 2020 2nd

They can use 33 for Stevens.

It leaves us with 36, 57, 64 and the Cats 2020 2nd.

We could then go to the Dogs with the Cats 2020 second and see what they'll give us for that. Considering Keath and Bruce we could be looking at 51 & 53.

Then we could use 51, 53 and 57 to get 30 from the Hawks. They get the equiv of pick 70.

Leave us with 30, 36 and 64.

I can dream.
