Australia A vs India A (2 "Unofficial Tests")

It’s called a resting players and rotating players like every other team around the world.

I mean...Hazlewood, Starc and Cummins are incredible durable and are all a level above Boland and Neser.

Both could have played a few more tests but they're also just incredibly unlucky to have their peaks coincide with one of Australia's great fast bowling trios.

This match is irrelevant in terms of the opening position, clearly it’s already made with McSweeney getting promoted to opener as a dress rehearsal. He didn’t look out of place as an opener and that’s all that matters for the selectors.

Bancroft and Konstas have been written off, Harris seems the only feasible curve ball they could throw given his close relationship with the Test squad. However, he would have to score 100s in both innings to even get himself into the conversation, which is very unlikely.

Harris gets a hundred and he is definitely in as he should be if that happens
No he won’t be, as if people think the decision wasn’t already made after the first Aus A game. It was obvious as soon as they gave him the opening position for this game.

Maybe....but there is sweet f all doing any better. McSweeney is not an opener so will probably prove that if he is picked as well...just like Smith did.

Nor was Langer, Katich or Khawaja for a while in their career.

If McSweeney is a legit cricketer, he'll find a way.

I'd personally go Hardie, for me he's a significantly better talent and also the right age profile.

I'll never agree with this "age profile" idea. You play the best 11 you have in ever match. Anything else is a disservice to the players that work so hard for one of only 11 spots.

And even if you play "development players" from a particular "age profile", you don't do it in a home series against India. This is the series that the development happens in preparation for.

Langer opened in his second test (and had opened for WA before then) but all three had years in the test team before opening. The better comparison with those three would be Labuschagne or Head opening.

If McSweeney's the guy - and he looks to be - give him the best chance of success by playing him in his most familiar spot first.
