No two batsmen have done that in this match for us. It’s not all of a sudden going to happen now in the 4th innings. Marsh looked good but has to start all over again tomorrow which is where he’s most vulnerable.

Like your optimism though.

It’s nice to dream. But Smarsh looks good for a change and Head has hung around twice in the last 3 matches.

I predict we will be all out before lunch. It is great that Marsh fought out the day but I predict once either he or Head are dismissed, the rest will fall quickly.
Be down on them if they did. Expecting more fight. I expect we lose by around 80 to 90 runs and bat over half the day. Our batting is worst it has been since the best Aussie were playing World Series Cricket or Greg Ritchie and Steve Smith were getting a Test game in mid 80's.

This. It's not just 219 runs, it's 219 runs on a day 5 pitch, with good spin and indifferent batting to come.

It's the cricketing equivalent of being 10 goals down at 3 quarter time- the number of things that have to go right to come back and win is mind boggling.
Yeah but it’s not an old style pitch that breaks up - these drop ins just get slower in pace so it’s not gonna do the things of old more likely to be hard to score rather than the pitch get you out

Coming to the tail. The batting improves...haha.

We need these two to make 100+ each. Not holding my breath.

Worst case scenario tomorrow is if in the process of losing Shaun Marsh hangs around and scores a ton.

Bringing in a young player with promise is maybe exactly what they need.
There is none except teenagers. Are we really going to throw teenage bats in Test team after a few Shield games? The harsh reality is we just do not have enough good batsmen right now to have a good batting order.

Am i the only one who thinks starc is incredibly overrated? His new ball bowling is okay, he doesnt really have a second spell in him. Think like 60 percent of his wickets are from 6 down? Stand to be corrected. Id give him a spell in the shield competition.

Australia cricket is the i can remember. Our batting is deplorable. Our best bowler bowls ginger spin. We haven't got an opening bat. Tim paine is a pure gloveman. Not handy with the bat.

Anyway. We're shit.

He looked unplayable vs SL a few years back since then his numbers are still solid taking 4 wickets at just under 30 but the issue is he bowls some truly awful pressure releasing spells, often it isn't even that he is super expensive its that when we have new men at the crease he can barely get a ball on target so he bowls a 5 overs spell which goes for 13 but has maybe one or two dangerous deliveries.

In his last 5 tests he’s taken 12 wickets @ 48.66. People are starting to get frustrated with him for good reason. Hopefully he can turn it around in Perth.

Paine has averaged 40 since coming back into the team, even if that’s helped by not outs, the fact is he’s regularly made a nuisance of himself with the bat. I can’t believe they picked him but he’s done enough to stay there for now.

Starc is shit.

He’s good at cleaning up the tail but let’s be honest, he hasn’t had to bowl to a decent tail for about 5 series aside from SA.
I keep hearing him referred to as the speahead, the number one quick. What bullshit.
Hazlewood and Cummins rarely have bad spells let alone bad matches or bad runs of form. Of all the opening bowlers in the world at the moment, beyond Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Starc is probably the bowler opposition top order batsmen feel most likely to succeed again.
Seriously, even Roach, Gabriel and Holder at the moment are ahead of him.

Starc's a dud. Johnson and Lee could barely keep it on the pitch at times, but when they did they threatened to end innings and careers. I love the commentary today on Foxtel with MWaugh suggesting Starc is most comfortable bowling at the tail.

Loved how he bowled a few 4 bye wides. I honestly hate watching him opening the bowling.
Ed Cowan saying on radio that his role in the team is to clean up the tail. Absolute worst bowler of the new ball I’ve seen in a long time, that over rated and overhyped it’s not funny.

So - how did it get to this given the $$ we’ve got vs so many of the other test playing nations? That is the question and for my 20cents worth it’s not just a generational thing - we throw more resources at it than ever before but we’re getting a poor result? I can’t think of one Batsman to come into the side and yet I want to drop at least one. Burns - not as an opener, Renshaw - Form, Wade - too much bottom hand, Mitch Marsh - not a fc bat let alone test, Maddinson - too early / injured - it’s old mother Hubbard’s Cupboard - we’ve got nothin’

The ashes might be the only time lately we have rolled the the last 4-5 easily in recent years, sadly it was the short rubbish that worked on those english cupcakes so that will just encourage more of the same.

He made a worse mistake than Finch in UAE. So our options are not great.
I'm not against picking Picoski, Sangha or Edwards but truly they should be allowed to settle in Shield cricket before thrown up to international Test match level.
We are just going to rotate with what we got this summer and see whom survives.

I'll second this.

At the moment he is terrible. His first 4 overs with the second new ball in their first innings were absolute rubbish. The first ball on target got a wicket.

India got at least 50 more than they should have in the first dig due to some very ordinary bowling to the lower order by blokes that ought to know better, and Starc wasn't an orphan there.

He also batted well in his last innings there. Not sold on him but I’d rather play him than going back to Burns or Wade
